@GOPsithlord This video's been covered by Lars Larson, Victoria Taft and conservative bloggers. Response has been positive from both sides of the political spectrum. If you like plastic bag bans or you think they're government over-reach, hopefully you can see the humor when two hipsters in Portland talk about it as if it's crazy that people still use plastic bags.
In Vancouver you can listen to the brand new song "Sick and Tired" by "Whiskey Labido".....In Vancouver and Portland you can check it out now just by clicking on the WL picture to the left, or where it just reads, "thelabidos". "Whiskey Labido", coming to a radio station near you!!!!!
I was really offended when I thought you were talking about Vancouver, but then realized you were actually talking about some estranged city I've never heard of, Vancouver (which apparently was established first)
This is just kind of lame to me. Like it's just stealing someone elses idea pretty much word for word and trying to arrange it to appeal to a specific demographic except that the graphic you are trying to appeal too is the already existent Portlandia graphic. I say fail. Be original.
Considering Vancouver is like the 4th largest city in Washington I'd hardly constitute it as a Suburb, despite it doesn't adhere to urban growth boundary rules and is generally a terrible place to live devoid of culture... but C+ for concept!
I love all the people complaining about how they need to credit Fred and Carrie somehow. If they knew it had to do with Portlandia, why shouldn't the average viewer? Folks must be new to the internet or something.
Yea, you guys really should state somewhere that this is a parody of Portlandia, because I'm sure many people don't know. It does come off strange if you don't give credit

@brightonwest this isn't comparable to weird al parodying a popular song. this is more like somebody covering one of weird al's parodies, and changing 5 words. i don't mean to rip this apart, i just hope everyone that sees it sees the original, too.
@dpaul428 It's clearly a parody. Hard to see how that could be mistaken seeing as how the script is identical to Portlandia's pilot episode script except for a few minor changes. Lighten up.
I *really* wanted this to be funny. It would have been funnier if you folks would have used "Vantucky" like everyone else.
People don't move to Vancouver to avoid income tax. If you live in Washington and work in Oregon, you're paying income tax. Period. And when Vantuckians file their out-of-state returns, they get very, very little back from Oregon.
Lastly, Washington State wants Oregon to pay for HALF of the Columbia River Crossing, not all of it, and definitely not Portland, specifically.
@MartinDHash - In all fairness; The gist of this parody video of 'Dream of the Nineties' seems to be about bashing Portland ..... Turn about is fair play, right ? ....

How do we avoid income tax when OR changes it to Washingtonians anyway? I've been transfered there so many times with my job, I'm not going to move there I own a house and they'll end up moving me back, the bridge is bad and everything but Oregon and Washington are both going to contribute and I don't know if anybody knows this but i-205 was funded from Vancouver. I say WA shouldn't offer tax exempt to Oregonians! We pay their income tax they don't have to pay our sales tax! Doesn't make sense!
In answer, no. The real point is the need for mass transit if 66,000 Couvites, more accurate than 10,000+, who have Oregon jobs. Ask those companies where you work to relocate to Clark county, and stop clogging our freeways. This isn't LA , Boston , or Seattle. Move their if you like traffic. Or become an Oregonian and live close to your work. Sustainability, not your needs our what I care about. Tolls make those who use pay, and yes the present bridge design is lame and over priced.Funny video
Vancoverians mostly pay Oregon income tax and Washington sales tax. Now they want to build a bridge that isn't any bigger for the 99.9% who drive across and make them pay for it.
The idea may be funny, but when you're modeling completely after an existing show (even using the exact tune the other show used), it ceases to be funny. Sorry.
I've lived in Vancouver for a total of 30 years, when I did move to Portland for 1 year I had to be subjected to my 55 year old boob sagging neighbor smoking naked at her window every night. I admit when I eat out I go to Portland, but I would so not want to live there. For being so liberal, they sure hate to pay taxes..and they can be proud of the fact that Portland is the only city in America where you can be under age and drink a Sam Adams..lol
Woah. Okay. A bit heated in the comment department here...I thought this was well thought out, clever, and poignant. Oh yeah, and FUNNY. Good stuff. Can't wait to see more spoofs. Nice job!
And I hope you guys realize, Clark Co is the 3rd highest Oregon state income tax paying county. LOL...all that money from people in another state and you're still broke.
@360Imports Agreed what a lot of people do not realize is that there are a lot of people that live in Vancouver because they hate the city life and that the people that live in Vancouver and work in Portland pay all the same taxes that you Oregonians pay without the benefits. Like when you complain about having to pay for taxes in Washington, lets look at that for a moment you are using our roads, that our taxes pay for, and you use our Parks, that our taxes pay for. Get over it!!!
@360Imports If people from Clark Co didn't come in and steal the jobs, the jobs could be filled by Oregonians who would pay the same taxes on the same wages, instead of collecting unemployment like they are now, so the state would be better off. (And in any case you are wrong, it is 7th.)
@360Imports Oregon's broke? Compared to Washington and their proposed sales tax increase to cover their budget shortfall, you've got to be kidding. And pay for your own bridge or swim across. An entire generation of people who don't want to pay their own way. Toll the bridge immediately. 5 dollars each way. The I-205 also. That will shut everyone up and prevent most Washingtonians from coming so often. The entire state of Oregon shouldn't pay for a single regional need. Jobs r here.
@PrePortlandia So I guess you don' t need the income tax from the 10,000+ who live in Vancouver and work in Oregon? Also the bridges are already paid for, we don't need a new one just for light rail access.
@360Imports Not in the Couve.Bad tax system for business in your state or jobs would be there. And the other commentator is right .Its seventh. Behind many of our rural counties.Ask Olympia for jobs not Salem.
@360Imports You're confusing Clark county with Clackamas county, dumbass. Clark ranks #8 according to the most recent data on the State of Oregon website. But anyway it's a moot point because people move to Vancouver to avoid property tax, not income tax.
You can do alot there. Drive over to Portland to hang out(in a real city), or if you love nature, drive 10 -30 minutes to some of the best fishing, camping, kayaking and innertubing wilderness a man could ever hope for! It's a good compromise if you want a big garage and the late night campfire in your own backyard! I guess we are mostly nature and Portland lovers over there. Just can't have it all, I guess. I live in Stuttgart, Germany now. I prefer to call it Vancamporty. Funny clip!
Dream of a suburb (and drugs). I only live in Vancouver for Washington schools. However, Portland is more my style but I'm still a poor citizen of Vantucky.
very near here -- across the street to be exact -- there used to be squats, rats cuddling, loving. sorry, that's all gone. dream on yuppies. i'm not fing joking.
generalizing geography and associating it with the word faggot, cute. My name is a reference, and I dont live in Vancouver first of all, Im deployed in the Middle East. I believe you should just try to connect that with my "immaturity" or some other assertive disposition.
While you are thinking long and hard, try researching taxes, I know its hard, in fact let me help you out start with Google.
I have absolutely no relationship to the Portland vs. Vancouver thing you're talking about, but it seems like it would make overall sense to live in Vancouver to pay less income tax and have lower property tax, yet do my shopping across the bridge to pay no sales tax.
Obviously what none of y'all (yes, notice the cute southern colloquialism, which is also the only single-word second-person plural in the English language) have is sunlight on a regular basis. From the NW, living in Texas.
blastik1000, I think I just threw up in my mouth. Either that or my laughter at your comment caused my coffee to come thru my nose. I'd venture to say that many folks' experience is markedly different from yours. I'm not dissing Vancouver or stating that PDX is better, but to say there is hardly any difference is laughably inaccurate...
Clark Country Washington: Fourth largest Oregon county in terms of income tax collected whilst Oregonians are exempt from the sales tax.
The bridge is a regional project that will get a lot of federal funding and a LOT of toll money from couve commuters. The idea that PDX is getting gouged somehow is just ignorant. I-5 is a huge part of our regional economy and those bridges are very old and in need of replacement. We all benefit.
Having lived in both cities, and currently moving with all practical haste back to Portland, I have to say that I died laughing at this! Nail on the head...
@ubermom66 Parody: is an imitative work created to mock, comment on, or trivialise an original work, its subject, author, style, or some other target, by means of humorous, satiric or ironic imitation.
@ubermom66 That rugged and gosh darn sexy individual doesn't just look like Fred Armiston -- it IS Fred Armiston! I'll have you know this series was in the works long before that other similarly named jerk hopped off his SNL high horse and deigned to make a television show about somewhere he doesn't even live: an idea he totally stole from Fred Armiston, who, like you say, is a Portlander. But does this minuscule fact mean he doesn't know anything whatsoever about the city he spoofs? Maybe. So?
portland bikers are the worst they slow up traffic. they drive like they own the road and want to get hit. but we can go on and on how portland and vancouver suck.
Its true. I live in Vancouver to avoid the income tax. And shop in Portland to avoid the sales tax. I think Portland is a great city, but I don't know if I could live in their City limits. I haven't found too many middle ground neighborhoods. Its either safe and expensive or cheap and dangerous. If I had to live on the otherside of the river I'd live in Beaverton.
Vancouver drivers are the worst! Creating more traffic by driving slow and lost. I'm glad you deal with a tiny bridge commuter bottleneck on a daily basis. Get a toll booth up.
@aaronleepdx Its true lost Vancouver drivers are no fun. But neither are lost Portland drivers in Vancouver. Near St. Johns Road and SR-500 is a really short merging lane, but if you're not familiar with it, you'd assume its a yield lane. It drives me nuts.
@aaronleepdx Try living in Miami and then come back bitching about ANY northwest drivers period... PS at least Vancouver drivers know how to pump their own gas ;) Direct quote from my friend who moved to OR: "I didn't know you had to pull the gas nozzle holder down!"
Portland resident here.....Vancouver doesn't have a pedophile (actually ephebophile) mayor whose idea of civic projects is randomly trying to ram through expensive, pointless projects, raising the water bills to pay for them, then backing off when people complain.
@senton412 - Well don't worry buddy, that utopia you seek is just a bridge crossing away! Time to get packing and leave us heathen Portlanders to our socialist dystopia!
I say I live in the Portland area, and I live in Vancouver, but I only say I live in Portland because no one outside the Portland area knows that Vancouver, WA exists. It's little awkward sometimes.
I LIVE IN A CITY SO IT IS AUTOMATICALLY BETTER YET ALTERNATIVELY WORSE THAN ANY OTHER CITY EVER REGARDLESS OF THE FACT THAT CULTURAL DIFFERENCES ACTUALLY EXIST AND TO COMPARE ONE TO THE OTHER IS LIKE APPLES TO GOLF BALLS SO THERE.
As someone who lived and worked in Le Couve-ay for a year, I can attest to how bike unfriendly that city is. Soccer moms seemed to go out of their way to try to hit me with their SUVs as they raced out of a parking lot.
lol at everyone arguing about Vancouver vs Portland... the schools here are jokes anyway as well... thats why I did running start.... >.< why do you guys think everyone leaves...
@sk8dudejames Vancouver schools vs Portland is like comparing NBA to WNBA. Portland schools are so underfunded and are the laughing stock of the area.
Lets do the math folks --- 1. Lower property taxes. 2. More affordable homes. 3. Better schools. 4. Better roads. 5. Better local government and neighborhoods. 6. Better transportation infrastructure. 7. No state income tax. 8. No bad commutes. 9. Ability to shop sales tax free in Oregon. 10. Fireworks! 11. I saved the best for last --- COSTCO BOOZE COMING IN 2012!! :-) Nearly 35% of Vancouver residents work in Oregon. If we didn't Oregon would be in even worse shape! You are welcome Oregon!
You guys don't look like hipsters....... The girl aaalmost does cause she's got the flannel at least :P she's just gotta swap those glasses for some ray ban's N put some racing bars on the bike n she'll be a mega-scenester

@360Imports You're confusing Clark county with Clackamas county, dumbass. Clark ranks #8 according to the most recent data on the State of Oregon website. But anyway it's a moot point because people move to Vancouver to avoid property tax, not income tax.
angularsofty 1 month ago
@angularsofty Washington has no income tax, and Oregon has no sales tax, so people use Vancouver as a convenient tax shelter.

More like; we don't want a welfare state, high crime, crappy schools, and a pervert mayor. Nobody respects Portland except it's inhabitants...

@360Imports Why don't you post more video of yourself weight lifting and leave our gay-ass mayor alone. Nope, no meth in Vancouver...none whatsoever.

However, Portland is more my style but I'm still a poor citizen of Vantucky.

generalizing geography and associating it with the word faggot, cute.
Reloaded9mm 2 months ago

@DanJenks09: So, you think Couvrians are paying sales tax for the items they buy down here? That's quaint.
spikeof65 2 months ago
Clark Country Washington: Fourth largest Oregon county in terms of income tax collected whilst Oregonians are exempt from the sales tax.
The bridge is a regional project that will get a lot of federal funding and a LOT of toll money from couve commuters. The idea that PDX is getting gouged somehow is just ignorant. I-5 is a huge part of our regional economy and those bridges are very old and in need of replacement. We all benefit.

TheSarahdulak 2 months ago 2
Sorry, don't think this is funny. This is a dude from Portland, 100% ripping off Portlandia. The main actor even looks like Fred Armiston!
People of Vancouver...make your own video! Don't let some Portlander make one for us!
ubermom66 2 months ago
@ubermom66 Do you really not know what a parody is or are you trolling right now? I really cant tell...
Subalpine602 2 months ago
@ubermom66 Parody: is an imitative work created to mock, comment on, or trivialise an original work, its subject, author, style, or some other target, by means of humorous, satiric or ironic imitation.
DanJenks09 2 months ago
@ubermom66 That rugged and gosh darn sexy individual doesn't just look like Fred Armiston -- it IS Fred Armiston! I'll have you know this series was in the works long before that other similarly named jerk hopped off his SNL high horse and deigned to make a television show about somewhere he doesn't even live: an idea he totally stole from Fred Armiston, who, like you say, is a Portlander. But does this minuscule fact mean he doesn't know anything whatsoever about the city he spoofs? Maybe. So?

portland bikers are the worst they slow up traffic. they drive like they own the road and want to get hit. but we can go on and on how portland and vancouver suck.
chicagobears1978 2 months ago
TTan777 2 months ago
Vancouver drivers are the worst! Creating more traffic by driving slow and lost. I'm glad you deal with a tiny bridge commuter bottleneck on a daily basis. Get a toll booth up.
aaronleepdx 2 months ago
@aaronleepdx Its true lost Vancouver drivers are no fun. But neither are lost Portland drivers in Vancouver. Near St. Johns Road and SR-500 is a really short merging lane, but if you're not familiar with it, you'd assume its a yield lane. It drives me nuts.
TTan777 2 months ago
@aaronleepdx Try living in Miami and then come back bitching about ANY northwest drivers period... PS at least Vancouver drivers know how to pump their own gas ;) Direct quote from my friend who moved to OR: "I didn't know you had to pull the gas nozzle holder down!"
sk8dudejames 2 months ago 3
Portland resident here.....Vancouver doesn't have a pedophile (actually ephebophile) mayor whose idea of civic projects is randomly trying to ram through expensive, pointless projects, raising the water bills to pay for them, then backing off when people complain.
senton412 2 months ago
@senton412 - Well don't worry buddy, that utopia you seek is just a bridge crossing away! Time to get packing and leave us heathen Portlanders to our socialist dystopia!

As someone who lived and worked in Le Couve-ay for a year, I can attest to how bike unfriendly that city is. Soccer moms seemed to go out of their way to try to hit me with their SUVs as they raced out of a parking lot.

Lets do the math folks --- 1. Lower property taxes. 2. More affordable homes. 3. Better schools. 4. Better roads. 5. Better local government and neighborhoods. 6. Better transportation infrastructure. 7. No state income tax. 8. No bad commutes. 9. Ability to shop sales tax free in Oregon. 10. Fireworks! 11. I saved the best for last --- COSTCO BOOZE COMING IN 2012!! :-) Nearly 35% of Vancouver residents work in Oregon. If we didn't Oregon would be in even worse shape! You are welcome Oregon!
