  • american accent? I live here, am half american..and HATE the accent here. It's boring and lame, along with 9 out of 10 americans. Seriously...it's scary how out of touch this country is with the rest of the world. Damn glad to be half Canadian...at least we know what the hell is going on with the rest of the world

  • @ZamboniZombiePgh Do you realize how ignorant you sound?

  • understand that our english isn't english....it is slang. like mexican spanish isn't Spain spanish. lol sooo........yeah....

  • why people like it? cause its different. thats why. i'm american and i hate my accent. i wish i had a british accent. and i have seen a hole bunch of british saying they like the american accent and try to do it. they like it cause it its different from there normal accent. the end.

  • We don't have the same accent. I'm from New York City and I sound way different than someone from a state like Texas for example.

  • @posthumanfetus The midwest does not sound like nasally farmers.

  • we southerners do not sound like hillbilly stereo type much we do have a growly drawl to are accent that's what my friends from Russia and France said ed least we think Yankee's are all talk and rood witch i went to new York and meet some ass holes they thought i was racist and liked incest we make fun of that nobody i know does that there's a town for that tiger ridge joke deep southerners might get it i'm from Georgia really maters on were u are there's an accent for each state really

  • Common stereotypes about American accents:

    Northeastern: Sound nasally and whiny.

    NY/NJ: Sound like a mobster

The South: Sound like an inbred hillbilly.

The Midwest: Sound like a nasally farmer

The West: Sound like a surfer.

    That's pretty much it, really.

  • @posthumanfetus

If from the Northeast and i dont sound nasally and whiny

There are alot of people here that speak with a New York accent though

  • I'm American and lemme tell ya, there is no "American accent". its all different. especially out here in the mid-west haha...

  • @damienscov

It's like that everywhere, there are many different accents in the British Isles as well

  • WHO'S AMERICAN~~~!!!? ;)

  • same guy with same comment gets both top comments.

    he must be chuck norris

  • no, you don't have an american accent, because america is made up of several accents in there. STFU

  • im american i like it because i grew up with it though sometimes i watch a movie and study hardcore british or iwll lisyen to music

  • IT is the same reason americans love a British accent. Its different and uniqe to them becouse they dont lissen to it much

  • its not an accent its more of a difference in dialouge

  • sjdss fuck you asshole

  • The "American " accent that most of the world knows from our television and movies is actually an accent found along the Erie canal trade route...NY to OH.

  • too bad! everyone on earth except white christian southern conservative americans! ARE! such dumbed down welfare trash!

  • People like the way Americans talk because we speak regular standard English. You people in the UK and Australia are the ones who have accents!

  • I remember Jeremy Clarkson making fun of a Texan accent and just saying "an American" spoke like that, I was thinking "Oh man, I hope he doesn't think we all sound like Texans! LMAO!"

The Texan or general southern U.S. accent is as different to a North East or West coast accent as a North East or West coast accent is to one of the English or Australian accents.

The U.S. is huge, one must expect there to be huge differences in accents and cultures too!

  • There is not "one American accent" actually. There are quite a few accents in America. The U.S. is so big, it's more like a continent with the States as their own little countries; having different little cultures, accents, food, styles, etc.

Most foreigners assume American has just one type of accent or culture or food. They'd be shocked to find out. :-)

As you can see in the comment below, even Americans who never traveled before were shocked to hear different American accents! lol!

  • obviously your accent will sound boring because you have been speaking it your whole life. it doesnt sound like an accent to you but many british people (if they do, in fact, like our accent) like our accent for the same reason you like theirs.

  • I watched a movie that looks like it was from the 80's in my etymology class once. more like a documentary. apparently the sound of American English is easier for people to pick up as their second language.

oh and everybody thinks they don't have an accent because when we hear the word accent we think of a twang in the way they talk, and we wouldn't consider ourselves 'twangy' because our own voice would be our definition of normal, but everyone has an accent to someone out there.

  • well really all american have accent from state to state an i didnt think our accent were so popular in other countries. Maybe cause all the celebrates an movies??

  • Accents vary a lot in the U.S. I'm from GA but I've traveled so much and have been away from the south for so long that I hardly have an accent, compared to most Georgians anyway, but It's obviously easy for a northerner to catch the southern accent when I speak. I cannot believe how varied the upper north eastern accents are.

  • because its easy as fuck to understand

  • @texas9ish Why am I not surprised by your username? Then again, I also have the place where I live in my username, so… It would appear we have reached an impasse!

  • @ClevelandRock so we have. well there aint nothin wrong with that i dont suppose

  • I know you don't think you have an accent but I totally love it. I have a kinda mix of Mexican and German accent because I'm half and half but I adore your voice and accent ^.^

  • Probably because most of the big blockbuster movies that are seen overseas are American.

  • What is an "American accent?"

Are you telling me that people from Boston and Atlanta sound the same? (smh)

  • @Huntington12345678 I'm shaking my head because you made me have to think out what that ridiculous acronym stood for.

  • @silemanx ... Which acronym?

  • @Huntington12345678 people dont all sound the same in endland

  • @Huntington12345678

There are different accents in England too, you can easily tell the difference between someone from Edinburgh, London, or Yorkshire

  • @Huntington12345678 I agree, There really is no such thing as an "american" accent.

  • @Huntington12345678 She's probably saying that the New york accent and the California are the same too...hell people from diffrent parts of california have different accents

  • holy crap! what accent? guys do yoi remember us ever having an accent? americans back me up here !!!!

  • @ms13ismyluckynumber to other foreign countries we do.....and you could have a jersey or new york accent or a southern accent...every othe country has an accent too its cause we are use to it

  • I can't understand anything you're saying.

  • its hard to decern what is meant by the 'American' accent. There are different accents and drawls depending on what part of America you're from and there's also the difference in slang.

  • i think people like the american accent because its so clear i guess but i love impersonating the european accents as well i like those better even though im a native.

  • i like my American accent because its cool your British accent is funny. no offends

  • I say because it is very clear, but that also goes to who you are talking too. Most people slur, mumble, or don't even say the words correctly. People like to talk with speed or just let it fall out.

  • I dont like my American accent...I really dont.

People like our accents? I find it very...Bleh.(Well, the NY accent anyway, since apparently New Yorkers have a different accent. Like, people in NC know i was from NY just based off my accent.)

  • @vampiregirl1242 YEH I'M A NEW YORKER TOO! * obnoxious high five*

    sorry.

i wish i could just forget about other peoples opinions and just be proud :(

  • To me I don't feel like I have an accent. Everyone has an accent though no matter where your from. And there's not just one American accent different parts have different accents like I'm from Texas and I sound very different from my cousin in Boston

  • Which American accent are we talking about? You have an accent darling, everyone does. You think you don't have an accent because it is the accent of where you are from. Doesn't mean you don't have one.

  • I was wondering the same thing, but then I realized that what makes an accent enjoyable to hear is the simple fact that it sounds different from what you are used to. It's a remix of an old song set to a new tune. It just seems fresh. Like a mini adventure for the ears.

  • Yeah I love accents and other languages. U.S. English sounds very boring to me as well because it's what we hear all the time. But you can find some awesome videos of what an American accent sounds like to foreigners here on Youtube that made me appreciate my accent a bit more. Check it out!

  • Penis.

  • @Iamsocoolijustfroze I'm sick of seeing this comment on every video, it's stupid. I bet every time you posted this you giggled like a little girl.

  • used terms I'd never heard before. I cut my finger & she asked if I wanted a "plaster." The garage was a "car port" & the extra bathroom was a "mud room." Between hanging out at her house & watching Monty Python, Black Adder & Young Ones episodes, eventually to me it didn't sound as exotic or even an accent at all. I even adopted some slang without realizing it, like "that is mental," "arse" and "bum," and...well a lot of nasty ones. LOL

  • In the UK and US we both speak English, but when we get to hear someone from the other side it's a change from what we're used to, so it's intriguing. My best friend I grew up with, her parents were British & older brothers, but she & her younger brother were born in US & didn't have a UK accent. I could understand her dad because he talked slowly, but her mom was very "sing song" & talked very fast, & it took me quite awhile to completely understand her. It wasn't just the heavy accent, she

  • The American accent is fairly easy to listen to because we tend to pronounce all the letters and syllables clearly. We don't suffer from the missing H sound of the cockney accent, or roll our Rs, which serves no purpose and just makes speaking a little more difficult.

  • who said they like the american accent anyway??

  • i don't think i have an accent...but that's simply because i sound like this all the time. so to ME, my american accent is boring...and to you your english accent is boring. but english accents are SEXY...sorry...it's fascinating. :)

  • Because were sexy :) and we dont have one, everyone else does....DUHH XD jk abut only if we had australian :(

  • i honestly don't think anyone likes the american accent. it seems boring ;/

  • @KoishiSEVEN Me neither LOL!

  • I didn't know us Americans had an accent, lol

  • Interesting video and hope yall have a nice day

  • Comment removed

  • the same reason girls froth over brit accents in the states. It's different, foreign, and mysterious

  • Because america fucking rocks!!! Sometimes...

  • Also, I wish I could have Sean Connery's accent.

  • I completely agree with this girl. Other countries sound interesting and somewhat charming, while I find my northeastern American accent monotone and boring.

I have no clue why there's so much hate on this video.

  • when i moved here from australia, the american accent sounded...normal

  • If you live in a country that speaks differently than the way people do in another country, it's INEVITABLE that there would be people in that other country who love your accent.

  • british accents are much better than american accents....well maybe cause i live in america...

  • i like british accent i taught myself how to ive never been to uk but i want to

  • The British accent makes every person in England from the homeless bum to the queen of England sound like they are an expert in shakespeare.

  • @chicago618 Watch a few Guy Ricthie films or The Football Factory; your opinion will change.

  • @chicago618 you've never tried to decipher the cockney accent obviously

  • @RikkiTikkiTembo65 Oh yeah I forgot about that accent. Isnt that the red neck hillbilly equilavent of British English like in My Fair Lady? :)

  • you think the that you don't have an accent because you like everyone around the world grew up hearing words a certains way, no one really thinks they have an accent until they hear other people sounding different

  • @narutard3245 shallow

  • hmmm....are you in the UK now?

  • @4GreenEarth2 No. I'm going in a few months during the summer

  • The way a person speaks and the intonations of their voice reflects their specific culture. I was perfectly horrified when I heard my voice on a recorder. I didn't recognize my own voice! I am from the Southern USA and of course, my vocal sounds deeply reflect that aspect of my speech. I have tried to change it, but alas, it is with me to stay. Accept yourself the way you are, it's just part of your heritage! It's who you truly are.

  • Can't anyone be happy for what they sound like?

  • American accents.....stupid bitch

  • the reality of the matter is, the "american" accent is a mixture of so many accents, that it's no longer an accent. Thats why country folk have thick accented sounds, yet ppl that live in a big city (houston) don't have a single bit of any accent. Then theres cities like new york, where ppl tend to segregate themselfs by ethnicity- then it stagnates, then you end up with all sorts of crazy accents.

  • You should speak up because it was hard to understand what you were saying

  • yeah american accent blows. it sounds like a template accent. i wish i had a welsh accent or even yooper dialect

  • people think american accents are attractive? i personally think the american midwestern accent is the ugliest accent in the world (and just so i dont get a bunch of hate, it's my accent, so i can say it).

  • @louib716 i have an amerian midwestern accent too, and our accent is interesting. it's cute on dudes, and friendly sounding. it's only ugly when people have nasal-y voices.

  • OMG America is doomed.

  • If I could sound like anybody it would be Christopher Hitchens. Darth Vader would come in second.

  • I'm American. If I could choose I would have an English or French accent. I think both of those are equally attractive. I like how women sound with eastern european accents too.

  • I have never met anybody who liked American accents. They are probably among the least popular accents in the west.

  • americans have abought 20 difrent acents i know because i am american

  • I know very few British people who actually, yes actually, like the general American accent. I absolutely dislike it with a passion- I find it very grating on the ear, very irritating. intensely annoying and the thought of being permanently in the company of Americans, most of whom are too loud and too much "in your face" anyway, would be like hell on earth.

  • @Verderer and you complaining is everything opposite of what you wrote?

  • @Verderer wow, you sound like you really detest Americans. Many of us aren't loud and in your face.

  • @lilangel1002 People like some of the North American accents because they do not have North American accents. You feel like you have no accent because everyone around you talks with the same accent. That's it.

  • I discovered that in a noisy environment - the staccato and rhythmic sound of classic Mexican Spanish carries much better than American English, but in a quiet environment, English seems more precise and efficient. I tested this idea in a noisy pub. I'll have to try the Brit accent next time I go there and see how it works! I believe that accents are constantly evolving - after all English was once "German" and French was once Latin - Yes?

  • @blackmantisss english I wouldn't go so far to say English was once German, but English is a Germanic language so the two are related.

  • People need to grow up and shut up, she doesn't sound stupid. It was just a question, you don't have to be so rude. Anyway, I think that our accents sound boring because we're so used to it. Other accents are fascinating because they're something new. :)

  • @42heh THANK YOU!! Someone finally understands me

  • People like American speech because you can understand someone better who can pronounce words correctly. For instance, if God was to be spoken as gaughd it would be spelled gaughd.

  • we californians dont have an accent.......duuuuude :)

  • Ahhhhh you're annoying. By the way, *crispS.

  • LOL wow you sound stupid as fuck....

  • Maybe you should go to the UK for three months you might pick up a bit of an accent! Better yet find a British family in the US and move in with them, but you best be on your toes for rapid fire thinking!

  • @TheNova1960 I'm living in the UK for a month over the summer

  • @lilangel1002 I'm sure you will have a wonderful time...make a list of everything you want to see and don't worry so much about the British accent be proud of your accent! I worked there for over a year and most Brits wanted to hear me speak even though it's a cross between an American and British because my whole famlly is British and I'm the only American!

  • My accent makes me sound ignorant and inbred. Yep, i'm definitly southern.

  • Why do others believe that we sound like valley girls? One name: Moon Unit Zappa

  • i like your vampire necklace more than my american accent

  • @MrFerjurowns That's a celtic symbol

  • @andrewfink1 your a quire texans are the ones that have the southern accent. you fags up north think the people in the south have the accents but no its texas

  • Honestly, I have to wonder, too. I'm in America and the accents tend to be pretty obnoxious but I hear a lot of British people on here saying that American accents are great and I don't get it...

  • @BengalTiger357 Americans feel bored with their accents, so they try to do other accents, and vice versa for the British. And since you say "I'm in America" I assume that you are not American, but why are the American accents obnoxious?

  • LOL sometimes americans try to do british accents to.we feel boring sometimes to with out a british accent. i mean have you seen how many videos there are of americans trying to do british accents, and sorry that you fell boring though :(

  • The only reason I can think of that you find your accent boring is because you speak it all the time, and you're around it all the time. So much that you find it boring because there is no variety.

  • I have a welsh accent and I hate it. I think it's cheap, chavish and ugly.

  • @KatsumiSakuraSan When I was visiting Wales, nobody could understand what I was saying because of my American accent. It was amusing because my complexion is very similar to that the stereotypical Welshman, but when I'd be in a Morrison's, Tesco, or even giving greeting a passerby, people couldn't understand what the hell I was saying. I like the Welsh accent though--quite lyrical, similar to the Irish. :)

  • @KatsumiSakuraSan

welsh accent is the second sexiest , after polish

    what are you wearing ?

  • I think people are always curious about people who talk differently. I think it has alot to do with Hollywood and movies.

  • well actually there isn't really such thing as an "american" accent because in different parts of america people have different accents.. like in new york they've got a new york accent.. and in boston they've got a boston accent.. kinda like how there isnt a "british" accent since in britain there are 4 islands and each island has a different accent wales, scotland etc..

  • The fact is, every speaker has an accent as there is no universally standard English pronunciation. Even within American English, there are dozens of accents and variations. Just because the way you speak, the particular accent or dialect, is the only one you are sourrounded by or accustomed, may be "boring" to you, does not mean that there is not an accent. If noone had an accent, everyone would sound identical in pronunciation and there would be no need for the IPA within a language.

  • And just an example of how us Americans speak English better than the English : The word " mother " has no " u " in it which is why we say " mom " and " mommy " , not " mum " and " mummy " . Seriously ? Common sense , people ! Now , ya know and knowing`s half the battle !

  • @1993MovieMan I'm American, so don't be saying I'm racist, but it's just how they say it... Every country has their own words

  • Comment removed

  • You think our accent`s boring , huh ? Ya , like you Brits don`t have some of the most boring accents in the world ? You also rip on us for our slang and not speaking proper English when you invented English and you can`t even speak it properly due to your laziness , half of us speak it better than you do .

P.S. I am not referring to all Brits , I am simply directing this at assholes like Simon Cowell and this chick .

  • @1993MovieMan And California isn't the biggest state... Alaska is...

  • @AHHHHHCHOOOOOO Fuck Alaska ! Real Americans don`t even count it !

  • @1993MovieMan Texas is still bigger than California if you don't want to count Alaska.

  • @AHHHHHCHOOOOOO Um nope , California`s bigger in landmass .

  • @1993MovieMan no its not its just bigger in intelligence

  • @andrewfink1 Right on , dude !

  • @1993MovieMan Yeah, California is number 3 in landmass.

  • @AHHHHHCHOOOOOO everythings big in texas except their brains!

  • @andrewfink1 I'm not Texan so that doesn't bother me haha. But I do know some pretty smart Texans.

  • @AHHHHHCHOOOOOO yes there are exceptions...not many though..wyatt cynac is an exception

  • @andrewfink1 lol

  • Who says they like their accent? They just have it. That's it. Yes, the grass is always green on the other side. And, of course, there is no one American accent.....

  • I don't like the American accent... Idk...its just blah...boring.

  • @BriBriSxyBst I'm American and after traveling through America and having a lot of friends from other countries, (still lack cash to visit Europe) I started to notice my own accent. I even pick up slight accents from others briefly at times. (I listen to Christopher Hitchens talk to much and my voice becomes dry but suddenly gets a twang in the midwest) I agree. American accents are boring.

  • To put it simply as to "why people like American accents":

    Personal preference.

I don't think I've heard anyone of any culture say "Yeah, I have an awesome accent" .. Honestly, I'm not saying that nobody anywhere likes their accents, but we all like different accents, for me, I really like the Irish, Jamaican and Scottish accents.

  • @labonneruerouge well fuck you too

  • You have a sibilant s.

  • This is when you KNOW your bored.

  • Because u are used to it. British people don't think hey I have a cool accent

  • British accent are sexy so is the southern American Accent. I don't like Boston accents. My uncle by marriage has one. I think the average American accent sounds like a news anchor. I don't really know why, but that's what I always pick up. I guess, it's because it sounds smart to me. "Valley girl" accents are what I'm most exposed to on TV, but none of my friends speak that way...hope it answers some of your questions, sweetie. I am Indian (not Native American...their accents are good, too). ;)

  • o.o they like our accents cuz its different i think o.O but ive never really seen..any british person like american accents o-o except that kid with the long red hair he said they were "hawt" o-o its hot...no w in hot v.v...

  • what is our Accent as Americans, some Americans ive heard especially around here in the New England area have more of a slighter British Accent

  • Is that a bloomsburg university pennett behind you?!? I used to go there!! haha

  • @SoFarAway2419 Yes it is! I still go here!

  • @lilangel1002 wow thats crazy...good school man. I miss it a lot

  • @SoFarAway2419 I love it here!

  • Everyone has an accent. When people say that someone has no accent it means either 1. they have the same accent as the speaker, or 2. they speak Standard American English, which is the accent used on TV and in most academic contexts.

  • Grass is always greener is as near as I can explain. They probably think their accents are boring too. Some British accents are prettier or quirkier than others too. I like them all though.

I actually haven't heard as many British or other non-U.S. people say they really like American accents as the other way around. If they do, it's probably just because we saturate all the pop culture.

  • I like my/others' Californian accent(s), it's sorta scratchy- makes it smexy :)

  • Everyone has an accent... >.>

  • because its awesome

  • BOOOOOORRRRING! Try coffee.

  • @Msteinebach92 Yeah, I was pretty bored and I probably had coffee that day.

  • plus when we say the "generic" or "normal" american accent, which one are we talking about? i'm from KY but i don't have a southern accent, and since i'm from america, i just don't think i have an accent at all. so what exactly is the generic american accent?

  • @kayladenny19 The "generic" American accent is a brand of midwestern that's popular with news anchors like Edward R. Murrow. I think the girl in this video has that accent.

  • @NotADood Yeah that is how most midwesterners talk because it actually doesnt not have an accent since the words are spoken as they are spelt and literally do not have any slang on them. I have been everywhere in the US and I have been told that I sound like a news caster many times haha

  • @Jakepod34 My accent's like that too and when I moved to Queens, people were all like, "what kind of accent is that?" and would try to imitate it. I didn't know I had an accent until then. Turns out everybody's got one.

  • @NotADood Very true....good observation...

  • i'm from kentucky, so some people have that stereotypical "southern" accent. i've managed to avoid it, but i'm always curious to ask english people or australian people WHICH accent they like, cause they always say they like "american" accents. well do you like southern accents, the new jersey/new york accent, the california accent, or northern accent? there's a million to choose from! :)

  • sorry to sound full of myself but if you live where i do (central u.s.) my accent is really just a refined gang bang of all accents to the english language. almost everyone who knows english can understand everything i say perfectly. the invisible accent is understandable, this may be why.

  • People in the UK don't think they have accents, and people in the States don't think they have the accents....
