I was so impressed by the second poem that I doubted that it had been written by a 12 year old girl. I did some research and discovered that it was not written by a 12 year old!
The second poem was written by a girl called Jodie Johnson on May 19th, 1996, when she was aged not 12 but 11 years, which makes it an even more impressive work.
Thank you so much for giving to us all. I miss so much in the 1970's a cousin who witnessed all the horror of WWII and shared it with me. He was a true hero. He and his wife are gone now many years but I will never forget.
They went with songs to the battle, they were young. Straight of limb, true of eyes, steady and aglow. They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted, They fell with their faces to the foe. They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, We will remember them.
Thanks for keeping the memory high Peter. We young people will never know how it was. We can never realy understand or feel what people feld during those times. But if i hear people talking about it i can read it from there faces where they have gone true.
As it is written on Flanders Fields irontower "No More War Ever"
Really terrific, Peter. Thanks. My dad was stationed at Horham with the USAAF 95th Bomb Group during WWII. The folks at Horham are still dear to us to this day. We will definitely remember all of them.
I went on a school history trip a few weeks ago, to various battlefields and memorials throughout France and Belgium. Although I had read and seen photos - nothing compares to actually going there. It makes you realise just what happened.
Flanders and many other places probably wouldn't have looked and been the same if it wasn't for those brave men. I got watery eyes when you read that poem.
Peter, when I am awarded my own country, you are getting a palace suite... with a view!
Bless you.
I am attaching a video response to this, as the music and images fit here. However please ignore the ending because at this time, the levity is inappropriate.

Hey. I've been away for a year and not had time to see Youtube. This is the first video I've seen and I'm glad it was a meaningful one. Good to see you're still making videos Peter!

I live in Flanders and will always remember them, the men that saved us (twice) during WWI and WWII.
I particularly like In Flanders Fields. I read a lot of WWI poetry at university. Thanks for passing it on to the younger generations!
