Never top 40ed but still No.1 in my book. You've pleased my brain since the 60's J.B., rest in peace---my brother from a different mother! In person @ the Shrine Auditorium 1968, the greatest ever performance.
I heard this somewhere. That it was this song that gave him the break that led to his recording career. When asked about it he said that he had been singing this song to his mother in the kitchen for seven years.
I remember this seeing James Brown on television singing this song with that cape and then throwing it off and falling to his knees those were the good old days,

@CODELuger22 I really appreciate your comment! but where I disagree is in Usher & Snoop Dog being "very talented"?? I could think of much finer examples in the world of Rap.
i'm algerian & didnt speak english at the time when my father used to listen to james brown at all times, had even 21 CD changer in a boot of his car! everytime i'm in d car wid him i'm like dad come on now! enough this old fashion music man!!! he always smiled back & says listen son? listen to the worlds! i was like yeah what ever!! since i came here & learned english, i knew then my father was listening to a legend & i was the old fashion bk then;-) miss u dad......
@CODELuger22 I never thought about it that way. I will say this, quality never goes out of style. It's like this: if it sells record companies will get behind it, period. I'm convinced there are some young executives out there with some good ideas on how to make music less homogeneous. If quality sells, labels will make quality, bullshit sells so they keep making bullshit.
@CODELuger22 You know what scares the crap out of me? 20 years from now parents admonishing their kids saying "boy when I was your age we had real artists like Lil Wayne and Brittney Spears. I cringe at the mere thought of it, seriously.
@CODELuger22 I'm not too crazy about the "stuff the kids are listening to" today either but I accept and respect the fact that it is valid to them. My parents were not too crazy about the rap music I grew up on. I wonder if todays generation will approve of the music their children will listen to some 15 - 20 years down the road.
I wish a man would beg me like that... These youngins dont know how to charm the ladies now a days... Umm Umm Umm... That some conviction right there! I woulda melted right in my chair if he sang this to me. Good Music..... Its a reminder of how simple our world used to be.
2 PPL DONT KNOW WAT REAL MUSIC..IS...IF U ARE HEARING MUSIC LIKE DIS ITS CUS U LIKE IT.. NOT JUST TO PUT STUPID COMMENTS.......AND U DISLIKED IT....U HAVE MENTAL PROBLEMS....LIKE FOR REALS...
Listen kids, do you hear that? Thats a grown man telling his woman how he feels. Not running his voice through 50 million processors to express some fake sentiment. Listen and learn from the masters.
@MrShakbo I'm 20, white, male, and am absolutely sure that 'Cause I Love You by Lenny Williams and Love's Holiday by Earth, Wind, and Fire is possibly the greatest love songs of all time.
one of the best songs that james brown ever did..this song brings back a lot of good memories when i was a kid my mother use to play all of his songs this one right here was on of my favorite..
o God i lovee this song!!!!!!!..dang there is not that many artist that sing nice songs like this mariah c. is the only one that hsa some sweet lyrics but there is too much crappy music, i amglad that i can jam into this
My grandmother took me to the Apollo theater, in NYC in the early 60's, and I saw him do this song with "The Fabulous Flames"; replete with his famous exits at the end, with one of the Flames holding one of his numerous capes that he would drape across Mr. Brown's shoulders as he left the stage. As a kid, I didn't know that I was witnessing history. Thank you Mama, and Mr. Brown, for the wonderful memories.
lol my teacher keep saying please please please like james brown so i looked up the song on youtube and when i first herd it i was like what the i was speechless lol
I was in High School when this song came out, growing up with this music, the era, well, as the Young People of today say, "back in the day", I'm here to tell you, it NEVER goes away. I will always have great memories of that time and to this day LOVE the music. Peace!
LOVE THIS TYPE OF MUSIC...MUSIC WITH SOUL, STYLE, CLASS, MUSIC THAT MAKES YOU WANT TO GRIND, FEEL GOOD, AND DANCE THE NIGHT AWAY....MMMMMMM....THIS IS TASTEFUL SOUL MUSIC....GOT TO GIVE IT UP TO THE GODFATHER OF SOUL RIGHT HERE! I FIRST HEARD THIS SONG ON "A RAGE IN HARELM" STARRING FORREST WHITAKER AND ROBIN GIVENS!
What a great record. Simple instrumentation...piano and drums (maybe a bass in the back), the Godfather's voice and the Famous Flames singing background. February 1956...his first recording and the beginning of a legend and phenomenon.
When James Brown passed away in 2006, I went to a New Year's Eve party. All of his songs were played after 12 midnight! T'was not a body sitting! We ALL got down and boogied!!! OOOOKAAAYYY! James Brown still has that effect on us!!
so sit back, relax & enjoy this life with your woman or man. & if thers not that one in your life, then go & take ther hand. search & you will find. knock & you will be answered. this life is not forever so why not go for the good thing that could be in your life.
Easy sunflower. not every body on the same page as us. just because ther deceive is no excuse for us to act out in anger. for we are told to be angery but do not sin. think about the true passion that james is sing from the depths of his soul. and i dont think is to fight against each other but to love your women and not to let her go. a man that finds a women finds i good thing.
I'm jus' 29 but I've seen JB perform twice back in 98 or 99 then in 01 when he came 2 birminghams city stages and the hertige festival he was of age then and still put on a hellava show...I actually cried when they dropped his cape on his casket at his funeral on TV that's how much of an effect he had on me i was tha same way when MJ passed 2 they were both heroes and insiration 2 be tha man I am 2day
@CoolDaddyMagic74 - You shoulda seen him in the 1960s and 1970s. Now THAT was something! Whatever you saw in '98 and '99: Multiply it by 50 and that was him back in the day!
this is tha first james brown song i remeber hearin' when i was 2 and 3yrs old tha funny thang is when I was little instead of please please don't go I thought he was sayin these peas won't grow ain't that a trip...James Brown's music always played a part of my life and still will...
Loved hearing that little gem from your memory...A fan since the age of 2 or 3? You are a true fan! I remember playing "Cry Baby" and it terrified my own baby at the time...Later one he loved music though...
james was able to capture the essence of the depths of his soul & bring them out with such a passion that you can feel his heart, but its not just his heart. its mans heart that beats, this thing, this passion, this emotion, it runs through a mans vanes. embrace this thing. everyting a man is is not for a man. thoes who have hears, let them hear, understand & relate...
I'd sing it on James Brown's grave, only because it was the saddest day when he left us, he is the Godfather of Soul, dear Lord rest his soul, this man was pure legend, pure everything to what soul music is then and now.
Love the Godfather of Soul...I was fortunate to have seen him in person around 1964 in an outdoor arena near Ontario, California (not there anymore, I think); later I saw Ray Charles at the same venue. Two legends who made a huge impact on music and the world.
Janeshe 2 says: Love JB...................his sound changed a lot by the next decade..........but thats y we loved him so much cuz he was a gift from God to us!!
Hey Holmes; Thanks for sharing a classic from James. Saw him at the Apollo in 1962. He and the 'Famous Flames', along with Maciel Parker on the tenor sax. Some things you never forget. Thanks a million for posting.
This song just move my soul... Go Head James!!!!

God, this song...

Hey Holmes; Thanks for sharing a classic from James. Saw him at the Apollo in 1962. He and the 'Famous Flames', along with Maciel Parker on the tenor sax. Some things you never forget. Thanks a million for posting.
