Hey fishing line I fish Moriches all Summer long are you fishing just befroe the inlet on the bay side in the fall during this video? What month of the year is this?
hey whats goin on bud - i go fishing alot out of shinnecock in the hamptons and fish bay and ocean. when u say "dont set the hook" i can understand in some cases where its a direct hit theres really no need, but under other circumstances where u can feel the fish playing with the bait isnt it best to set the hook? plus alot of times especially with fluke and sometimes even with bass, you let them play with it a little and give a tug because they can spit out bait if spooked and will come back
@bdrizzle1989 In this technique you NEVER EVER set the hook in this situation...they either take the bait hard or lay on it..even when they lay on it..do not set the hook...the braid line with the sharp hook will set the hook for you.
@bdrizzle1989 In this technique you NEVER EVER set the hook in this situation...they either take the bait hard or lay on it..even when they lay on it..do not set the hook...the braid line with the sharp hook will set the hook for you. If you set the hook and they miss the bait or only get half of it or spit the hook they will NEVER come back for the rest o fthe bait.
@thefishingline10 right on dude, in the situation for sure dont set hook, those big guys usually either slam the bait or chomp and lay flat on bottom. live snappers alone im assuming ? i often do that or live killies / squid combo. last summer i actually gave squid alone a try and did quite well. fishing in areas of shinnecock bay and out in the ocean has been hot, averaged 2 keepers a day, a few over 30 inches. nice talkin to u mate.
Hey guys I got very bad news for all of the Salt Water anglers! They might change the Fluke size limit to 18.5 inches for the 2010 year! First Winter Flounder, now Summer Flounder! Ridiculous!
@thefishingline10 I live in Atlantic Highlands, New Jersey. Very close to Sandy hook! They might change it there is a 45% chance I heard from some anglers and the Bait and Tackle shops. Happy New Year! Hopefully this year will have better fishing in stock for us!
@bdron33 I agree with you I really don't know what asurfcastingporpoise is talking about! And yes 6 to 8 years ago the Fluke limit was 14 inches. Back here in New jersey, Atlantic highlands, at the harbor, 5 years ago, every person that went fishing for Fluke at the pier left with a keeper Fluke. There wasn't no person I believe that had to throw back a Fluke. Fluke at the time was a limit of 14 inches. Now, 18 inches. ridicoulous. Happy Holidays!
I liveline snappers and bergalls for BIG fluke..... I use a fishfinder rig with an 18 inch leader...... with a 2 hook setup....one in the nose and one just under the anal fin........ when you get thumped , feed out line to let the fish eat.......... then smack!!!! fish on!! you wont catch too many shorts with this method...
I just fished in the Raritan bay for fluke and found that SMELT was a pretty good bait to use. It is also pretty cheap, and can be bought in local supermarkets. Give it a try.
I hope you are right, I've noticed that there are quite a few fish being caught but it seems like there are'nt many keepers, lets hope for a change in the rulebook.
Enjoy it while you can because the way things are going Fluke fishing will be illegal in a few years thanks for the commerical fisherman destroying the fish populations.
3way swivel... to one end you attach a clip with a weight (size weight depends on where your fishing), another end of the 3way you connect your main line, and the last end of the swivel you connect your hook/leader which should be around 2 - 2 1/2feet in length. Hook the snapper right through the bottom lip and out the top lip, or through the back. I prefer to go through the lips.
Then just wait for the bite, when the snapper dies, either use another one, or cut into strips like squid.
Those teeth are angled in. Any fisherman who has been bit by a fluke knows that you only get your finger back when the fish opens his mouth again. Great eating.
Yeah using live snappers is a technique that I have been using for years. I would say vast majority of the time they will outfish killies. Sometimes I found the fluke only biting on snappers. Last year while fishing on the shore of the inlet in 15 ft of water I was easily outfishing everyone around me by a huge margin..Im talking about 50 people or so. I was the only one using snappers
Easy way of getting snappers by rod is to use a light freshwater outfit 4 lb test with a white rooster tail.
Its a shame that today that "giant" fish wouldn't even be a keeper.
