  • @TVisawesome432 and people consider LA the highway capital of the world. psh.. that title clearly belongs to houston. i believe we have more 5 level stack interchanges in houston (7) than any country in the world (outside of the US obviously).. the only other city i can even think of with more than 1 5 level interchange is Ft Worth, with 2. gotta love houston!

  • hey i was in Texas last month, and we passed by Dallas and there was a freeway interchange with like alot of ramps probly 10?? someone told me they had bearly done them 3-4 years ago. do you have a video of it??

  • @sk187kos im pretty sure you are refering to us-75 central expressway .. its the onl level 5 stack in the city .. yes i have a video of it , check my channel ..the video is called i-45/us-75 north central expressway dallas tx .. also another view of that same interchange can be seen on my i-635 dallasvideo .. thanks for watching

    Walker County Line NB I-45 mile 100.7, I believe 100.72 to be exact

    243 3/4-100 3/4= ok, there's 143 miles of I-45 where you can drive 70 legally, during daytime.

  • no , the i-10 katy hov flyover exits to east downtown .. however it dives under i-45 . just before franklin st .

  • By the way, wonderful video. I haven't been to any I-45 interchange south of the I-10 one. Do I-10 next time! Katy + Sam Houston is by far the most impressive interchange in the city (and perhaps in the country behind Hi Five in Dallas and I-75+I-595 in South Florida).

    And yes, everyone else should be jealous of our huge freeways and stack interchanges. If only driving in Houston were a slightly more peaceful activity... (it's like automotive warfare down there, isn't it?)

  • Okay, your intro was so out there and so unexpected, but absolutely hilarious at the same time, that I almost spit the beer I was drinking out of my mouth.

    Beyond the intro, though, I think this is actually your *best* video, to date. Your presentation was professional and legitimate...certainly something I would present to students of an urban planning course. Excellent job and 5*, for sure!

  • Ok...thats your opionion...but Houston is not bigger then L.A, plus Houstons freeway system is too redundant.

  • @Universal1011 Obviously LA is bigger. What's your point? NYC is bigger than LA and it doesn't even come close to having the interchanges that LA or Houston have.

    Plus, how is a highway system redundant? I don't see two parallel freeways, and I sure as hell have never thought "gee, should I take X highway or Y highway? They're the same thing, so I have a choice!" We have a very thorough and comprehensive highway system, that is not equal to "redundant."

  • In terms of high stacks, you guys win...but for busiest highway..we win. Torontos 401 is insane with the number of lanes....28 including shoulders and they plan to extend it too 34 in the future.

  • Yeah..,most parts. If you head near the airport, 401 at dixie its 26-28 with shoulder lanes.

  • I would like to kindly comment on this. I think what Universal is saying is that Houston's freeways look relatively similar to each other (universal design) no matter which freeway you're on, which I tend to agree with that assessment, as do many others. Dallas, on the other hand, has a pretty "diverse" look to their freeways; US 75, for example, looks nothing like I-35E. In Austin, I-35 looks nothing like US 183, or TX 71.

    With that said, Houston's freeways are amazing engineering feats!

  • SO far , to be honest . the only level 5 interchange that ive seen to date is the 105. 110 Century Freeway interchange . in entire Los Angeles . Yes i Agree they have some of the best freeways in the world . but lets be sincere here , they do not , wat so ever come near Houston , In Freeway Interchanges, period .

    But where I lived in the PA I only knew of one Stack 322 and 81, everything else is usually clover leaves.

  • Because there are no unions and ROW/materials are cheaper, they can do it. The High Five in Dallas cost "Only" $262 Million to built, double or triple that number north of the Ohio River and quadruple it for NY-NJ area.

  • Wow! Isn't there anyway to fix this? Milwaukee payed over 800 million for their 5 stack. Any suggestions for us up north to fix this? We just have developers bid on the projects.

  • Yeah, become a "Right to Work" state and get union labor off the jobs, that's a large part of where the costs are higher compared to southern states.

    You can't do much about the cost of land/right of way unfortunately.

    Being 30 years behind on keeping up with infrastructure might be good for the unions but not for the masses. We need to be more centrist. We voted Al Franken in for cripes sake.

  • @ClickV2...someday you should visit the texas of Canada, Alberta. Calgary has some ok civil engeneering...I'd say its the mini version of Houstons high stacks.
