As a kid I remember the blowing up of a beautiful viaduct outside of Cheltenham which used to carry the train of the now defunct cotswold line to Burford and onto Oxford. The whole town came out to watch the explosions and though we were kept back a few hundred yards we still got showered with small brick fragments. Afterwards we all surged forward to pick up the scattered bricks. We even have a few still lining a flower bed in the garden. What is there now ?........baren scrubland. Shame
So typical of the damage and destruction that was done to this country in the 1960s. Of course this bridge should have been repaired and should still be open today.
The commentary mentioned that some spans were to be sold for re-use, did this ever happen??
