The original version does not match the actual title (Song of the sea), shows only spoken words that might be romantic in any environment (sea, desert, forest, city, etc.).. This gives freedom to any artist, is music arabe, romantic, political or ecological message. This is very good because it makes the universal music.
Harmony and Melody are the factors that move me in that song. But I prefer the versions of Amalia Rodrigues and Dulce Pontes. Hugs.

Sure, Cancao is about the sea and she made it about the desert, part of her creative genius. Cancao speaks about how the sea gives and takes away. The album Harem is influenced by the rich culture of the Middle East, which also can either give or take away. And frankly, it gives more culturally than it ever takes.

Honestly I got very disapointed with this music! Sarah don't have enough voice to sing this music I think she completly losts balance between Low and High tones.
The music is hard to sing due to it great complexity and requires somedy with a deeper and wider voice, capable of getting strongly trough all notes without loosing strength.

Sara Brightman, you're a great artist but, in this case, you couldn't be wronger.
This song is portuguese and it's called "Canção do Mar", which means "Song of the Sea". There's nothing on it about desert, arabs or whatever you imagined. Songs are written for voices, and your's isn't definitely suitable for this one. Fire your consultors.
Look for "Dulce Pontes canção do mar" and enjoy it.

The original version does not match the actual title (Song of the sea), shows only spoken words that might be romantic in any environment (sea, desert, forest, city, etc.).. This gives freedom to any artist, is music arabe, romantic, political or ecological message. This is very good because it makes the universal music.
Harmony and Melody are the factors that move me in that song. But I prefer the versions of Amalia Rodrigues and Dulce Pontes. Hugs.

A versão original não condiz com o próprio título (Canção do mar) ,mostra apenas palavras ditas com romantismo que poderiam estar em qualquer contexto ( mar ,deserto, floresta ,cidade, etc.). Isso dá liberdade a qualquer intérprete , seja música arabe, romântica,política ou mensagem ecológica. Isso é muito bom pois torna a música universal.
A Harmonia e a Melodia são os fatores que me emocionam nessa música. Mas eu prefiro as versões de Dulce Pontes e Amalia Rodrigues. Abraços.

Sure, Cancao is about the sea and she made it about the desert, part of her creative genius. Cancao speaks about how the sea gives and takes away. The album Harem is influenced by the rich culture of the Middle East, which also can either give or take away. And frankly, it gives more culturally than it ever takes.

A melodia até soa bem, mas falta-lhe a intensidade que só é conseguida quando se canta com sentimento. Como a música não lhe "diz nada", porque não é portuguesa", não consegue fazer-nos arrepiar como quando é cantada pela Dulce. Ignorante eres tu. Sara creó una caricatura horrenda. La canción original es de Amalia Rodrigues. Pero Dulce Pontes la canta muy bien. Eu fico impressionada com a ignorância de certas pessoas que postaram aqui. Eu acho q cada cantora tem seu jeito de interpretação. Neste caso Sarah somente está usando a melodia, não a letra da música de Dulce Pontes. Se notarem a melodia cantada no original é bem do oriente médio, isso se deve as grandes influências que os Mouros tiveram em Portugual e Espanha.
O fado não é mais do que uma melodia de "lamento" que também é utilizada em várias músicas árabes.

Honestly I got very disapointed with this music! Sarah don't have enough voice to sing this music I think she completly losts balance between Low and High tones.
The music is hard to sing due to it great complexity and requires somedy with a deeper and wider voice, capable of getting strongly trough all notes without loosing strength.

A música Canção do Mar é da autoria de Frederico de Brito e Ferrer Trindade. Foi cantada por Amália Rodrigues em 1955, no filme "Os Amantes do Tejo" sob o nome de Solidão. Em 1987 Anamar[1]lança o álbum "Almanave",onde aparece uma nova versão de "Canção do Mar". Me gusta Sarah, en otros registros. Este tema le viene grande, mejor que deje a Dulce con esta canción tan difícil y compleja. La música pachanguera que ha puesto es una patada a los oidos de los oyentes peninsulares.
Para rematar, la flagrante y poco sensible incultura que demuestra el mundo anglosajón con los españoles y portugueses en el vídeo se demuestra con danzas del vientre y guirnaldas árabes, es penoso.

That loss of taste is also due to the change of the lyric into English. It is hard to sing in English (or German!) with the dynamic like the original. A good try to introduce fado.

It is amazing how can an artist use the very roots of portuguese music and pretend to be eastern type music. Listen to Dulce Pontes version...She sings the soul of Fado, the Soul of the Portuguese People. This version could be much better as this song as a very mystical, deep, love meaning. Not so good as I expected...

Sure the music is Portuguese, but that doesn't mean it can't speak across cultures. Think about Carmina Burana composed by German Carl Orff, whose theme O Fortuna is used by hollywood, by rap artists, techno artists, american football broadcasts... Instead of turning in his grave, I'm sure Carl Orff instead is enjoying his ability to touch the lives of classical music haters! Why can't this Portuguese melody do the same?
