None of you guys know what you are talking about. These are highly modified F-14D Super Tomcats with F-15E motors, F-16 instrumentation and F-22 paint schemes....Jeeezzz
@thebeardguy71 You sound like you dont know your stuff. They arent super hornets.. And its not a modified hornet. Its just an F/A-18D. There are single seat super hornets and two seater super hornets as well. But the blue angels dont use super hornets.
@89len They've flown Hornets since 1986 and don't fly anything else... the squadron includes several 2-seat versions that are used as "hot spares" in the event of a problem with one of the other aircraft, and they're also used for flights like the one in this video where some lucky bastard gets to ride along with a demonstration.
Is that Kevin 'Kojak' Davis on Blue Angel #6? May he rest in peace. :( These guys are the best and always will be. Nothing but respect for them and what they do.
@Speergeschwader This isn't the Air Force of any country. This the U.S. Navy Flight Demonstration Team known as the Blue Angles. They are based in Pensacola, Florida.
@MrJrh995 It is correctly, Blue "Angels" (flying, heaven-related beings), not Blue "Angles" (The space [usually measured in degrees] between two intersecting lines or surfaces at or close to the point where they meet)
@jimboking Thank you for catching my spelling mistake. It was a stupid mistake on my part. I know the difference but I guess I did not catch myself when I typed that response. I would like to formally apologize to the English language and all of my fellow Grammar Nazis.
This is an area where cuts should be made. We don't need these show-offs anymore in order to recruit new pilots, because we won't need pilots anymore. What we have now, will be operators who sit in air-conditioned offices operating joy-sticks to kill other people with drone aircraft.
@TheCobalt100 Completely disagree. It's not all about recruiting considering how difficult it is become Navy fighter pilot in the first place. It's about showing what our very best are capable of. This is hardly a waste of taxpayers money. Drones are limited in their capabilities and range. You're going to still need human pilots up in the air to meet more demanding missions.
@Fenrir555 Yes, I agree that we will still need pilots. But the budget ax must lop off some of the excessive expenditures that the Pentagon currently employs. The current budget for the Blue Angels and the Thunderbirds is nearly 80 million dollars. I think the Pentagon could easily slash 40 million dollars without harming our national defense.
I live VERY close to ANDREWS-see AF1 landing...Thought I recognized some landmarks. These guys are amazing...so close...Seeing it on video--it's closer than I imagined!
Did some of these same maneuvers in the old TF-9J and the TA-4J back in VT-22 in Kingsville. Not so close at times and we certainly did not have the performance to do the loops...nor did we fly that low! What an experience you have shared! Thanks.

I used to fly for Louisiana-Pacific in Hillsboro, OR and we always hosted the Blues in one of our hangers. One year they had to replace a vertical stab cause 4 tucked in a little too tight and delaminated the thing :-)
Thanks, Jimbo! I love this raw footage! Is there any way I can download it? My eleven year old grandson is making his first video with Pinnacle Studio and he is collecting Blue Angel photos. I had seen the Blue Angels perform in Fargo North Dakota 2011 and it was the best show I have ever seen. I had taken my father to see the show who was in the Navy for 21 years. My father even stated that he has never seen flying like this before and he has been in World War 1 and World War 2.

@jjjazzycraig it isnt gonna be quiet with two powerful jet engines sitting right below you and sound dampening materials take up space and add weight. Plus the helmet does get rid of some of the noise.
Do some reading on the Blue Angels and how they learn to coordinate these stunts before you comment. Just makes you look ignorant. And the guy filming is not flying (mean to say he is not the pilot) in response to Kelly14UK, you are not hearing the song of the pilots.
