  • My senior qoute came from this scene....

  • Rick looks like a Sabianiste du PPF than american in this filme and ingrid Berman une spione au service de Jean Luchaire..Conrad Veidt a spanish guardia civil

  • Probably one of my favorite scenes as well.

  • "Rick?.. he's the kind of man that, well, if I were a woman, and I were not around, I should be in love with Rick" Wonderful line, as they all were. And so, so true. Without Bogie and Bergman it would not have been as good, but everything else about it is perfect as well.

  • "Better make it 10. I'm just a poor corrupt official."

  • who was the lady playing the guitar during the french national anthem

  • Major Strasser has been shot!

.....that long pause and the looks between Rick and the Captain .......

    Round up the usual suspects!

  • im shocked shocked....=CASABLANCA forever in our language.

  • While didnt & still do get the "classic" link to this movie it's tragic that society has lost sight of the underlining values it & others show even today. Ask anyone from my generation these days especially a woman & most wouldnt believe a guy could love or care so much as to just want to see his love happy. Oh well lines are to blurrly these days. No one stops to smell the flowers anymore. Tragic...

  • Mas8baller, this could be the start of a beautiful friendship. Uhh, a straight friendship, anyways!

  • LOL I love when they tell the captain is winning & he's like thank you ...

  • How can anyone NOT favorite this!!

  • Mas8Baller:

    I appreciate your insight.

Sure the movie shows it's age--It's 66. People talked & acted differently before the war--before television--before the computer.

Maybe it needs more characters shouting,"F*** all you m*therf****** Nazis!!" Alas, there was no PG-13 in 1942.

...Also no guarantee, when this movie was made, that WWII would be won by the good guys.

It's the story of a man, Rick, sacrificing his love for Ilsa for the greater good.

Hope you watch it again sometime.

  • I respect you enjoyment of the movie while I might not I do get the points & underlining message. Unfortunately it is one of many movies where the underline value & morals have long been forgotten by American society in this hussel & bussle world of today. Still its the lost & disbelief these days in things like the greater good or a guy giving up his love for her betterment or to see her happy even at his own hurt but then again grandpa always said that's what love really was suppose to be.

  • how did everything change so quickly? Life sure does seem like a carefully programmed lie. Movies within a big confusing play.

  • louis is my favorite character

  • aaahaha that always makes me lol

  • thank you thank you very much :P

  • HAHAH!,His bar was closed that was good

  • watch Rick´s face after the croupier gives the money to this lovely and corrupt french police officer. It´s one of my favorite parts of this movie...I´ve seen it more 30 times and I still love it

  • Mon Dieu!! Do we have to go back there and teach the Germans nother lesson!!

  • Love this scence.

  • This is one of my favourite scenes too

  • beware of algore and his green shirts,,,,or we will be back here.....

  • TYhank You for uploading the 1942 film "CASABLANCA" with Humphrey Bagart,Claude Rains,Ingrid Bergman and Conrad Veid.....

  • Claude Rains was so sexy.

  • How the hell does the man playing the nazi get that first, long line right?! They must have done soo many takes

  • mr. rains sooo very funny in this scene,CASABLANCA is in my top 5 best movies of all-time.....

  • Pointing out that not only were the Nazis murderous thugs, they also didn't want people to have a good time.

  • CLAUDE RAINS!!! GOD!!!

  • Wonderful film, have seen it a dozen times, always so fresh scriptwriters/screenplay writers knew their trade then. Some of the quotes will last for ever. There was talk of a remake, so far it has only been that ,talk. I cannot think with todays so called stars who could play the parts, everyone in the original were so perfect, Claude Rains was superb as the corrupt policeman, Ingrid Bergman was excellent, John Gielgud said she could speak 5 languages and act in none of them, just not true.

  • God I hope they don't try and remake this gem. Who could do it? NO ONE. and that quote about Ingrid is so wrong! she was a fine actress, wasn't she? Rains owned his role. salut to a fellow movie lover!

  • haha! This movie is brilliant. To able to maintain that intensity and throw in a dash of perfect irony...great film!

  • Claude Rains totally rules in everything he was ever in. Check out "Deception" from 1946 with Bette Davis. An unbelievably GREAT performance, and hilarious too!

  • Claude Rains rules in this movie!

  • thank you for posting this. My favorite movie, my favorite scene from it.

  • your winnings sir...LOL

  • This IS a great scene in a movie filled with them.

  • The last 10 secs of this clip is probably my favorite 10 second clip in the history of movies. Soooo funny.

  • 'ShutEmDownNow' is CORRECT 100%. This was NOt the right forum and was misintended. And yes, i agree we come to this site as cinephiles to enjoy viewing....sorry.

  • Way to parrot the neo-con talking points. Ever hear of Rev. Moon? Big backer of the gop, gets an audience in the WH whenever he requests it. He & Bush (& McCain) all love the same thing: compliant, mindless servants who'll repeat whatever they like good little robots. Enjoy your life as a drone...

  • I'm shocked, shocked that you could take one of the best scenes from what is arguably America's finest film and use it to take a cheap potshot at Barack Obama. If you're going to use YouTube to be a cheap political hack with your comments, you could at least have the courtesy of saving it for a video that actually has something to do with the election. People don't want to read that while watching viewing this clip.

  • How do you know what people want to read while viewing this clip? (Actually, it's really hard to read anything while watching the clip). That's awful presumptuous. I, for one, was hoping to read just such a comment while watching this clip.

  • ...and I believe that about as much as I believe that Renault was shocked, shocked to find gambling taking place in Rick's.

  • Brit, I came here LOOKING for the clip, because Claude Rains' remark was the FIRST thing I thought of when Obama just got around to being 'shocked' by his pastor's remarks, after 20 years of sitting in his pews listening to this blige.

I'm from Chicago and am SO relieved the rest of the country is just waking up to what a lightweight Barack is.

  • "Louis, this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.."

    CLASSIC!

  • yeSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!! such great script writing!

  • "Shocked, shocked!..." LOVE it!

  • :D me too.

  • Funniest scene in the movie, worked it just like you would in a play! Perfect timing!!

  • Claude Raines does have great timeing.

  • I love how after Renault takes his winnings, Rick immediately turns to the bus boy who gave him the cash and starts busting his chops.

Gaah, why aren't there any awesome actors like Bogart today?

  • I guess because they're all too caught up in the 'rich' life and not focusing more on the parts they play.

  • Why aren't there awsome actors like Bogart today? Because the actors back then actually lived a real life before becoming actors. Many never intended to be actors so they brought a lot of real life to their acting, as opposed to the actors today who never lived a real life and have been acting since they were kids - in one fashion or another.

  • like our presidents =)

  • You are so correct. If you replace the word "actor" with "president" or "politician" my statement would me just as much sense.

  • A little aside, Bogart was no Elephant Man in terms of looks, but i have a really hard time swallowing the wish-wash from this pack of 'models turned actors' we have going these days. It's totally ruined the horror genre for example. Empathy is crucial in cinema; try feeling empathy for a model...near impossible imo...

  • Bogart is the star but Rains is the foundation that holds the movie together.

One of my favorite scenes is when Rick and Louie are sitting outside talking and Rick says he came to Casablanca for the waters.

Funny how Rick's Cafe keeps changing from the middle of the City to out by the airport.

  • so true he is the foudation! and well I guess studio's a very small, so the airport had to fit somewhere.

  • LOL-that and the Marseillese that procededs this bit are my two favorite parts of the movie!

  • nice, the whole moive is really well made!

  • best film ever made? I think so.

  • Definatly~!

  • What a beautiful bit of commentary about politics, power and hypocrisy. Just the best ever and one of the many reasons this film is a true classic.

Why can't we make films like this any more?

  • I wish they would, but it seems that nowadays all kids care about is slapstick hummor and sex.

  • wow, you just described Kevin Smith and his shitty movies lol. See my top ten movies list ;), great video. Thanks for the upload.

  • LOl, sure i'll check it out.

  • What a line! Way to go Claude!

  • yes go claude!

  • best scene totaly :)

  • ohhhhhhh! yes!

  • Renault: "I'm shicked, shocked to find that gambling is going on in here", Emile: "Your winning, sir", Reanault: "Oh, thank you very much. Everybody out"

  • lol, yep that about covers it.

  • "I am shocked, shocked that x has been going on here" is great shorthand for the acknowledgment of one's hypocrisy.

  • indeed, especially when that guy comes up, "your winnings sir!"

  • This cracks me up!

  • one of the funniest scenes in the movie, i say it all the time. a super classic!!!

  • yes, indeed!!

  • Thanks for posting glad to see so many people who love Mr. Rains' work.

  • as am I. I'm the only person I know of who likes Rains accept my parents.

  • Thanks for posting.I always lol at the "shocked,

    shocked..." part,though I've seen a thousand times.

Yes,Claude Rains is great ,playing the baddy and goody

    at the same time.

  • Yes it does suite Rains dosen't it. I always LOL at the "shocked part too" :D

  • whenever somebody says this today you know the idea, the movie theyre referring to.Agreat movie makes a long great impression

  • One of my favorite parts of one of my favorite films. It's hilarious how you can see Bogart and he looks like he's going to explode in front of the courrier while Claude Rains (HIGHlY underrated actor and should've won an Oscar for either CASABLANCA or NOTORIOUS) has the floor.

  • LOL I agree with you completly. He should have gotten an award. He brought the character to life.

  • Agree. He practically stole the show with all the great lines he had...was just up against too much star power.
