  • This is mento... I don't see any Tags marked Mento..

  • What are the Chords for this song?

  • @aaron7007alex He's singing it in C, so you can alternate between C and G7.

For the chorus you start in C, and switch to G7 when you hit the word Koomanah, and back to C on Yankee.

The Andrews Sisters sing it in B-flat, so their chords are B-flat and F7.

More faithful transcriptions use more chords but this is enough to get the song out.

  • oh wow this is classic calypso eh....just have smile and laugh at this.....absolutely awesome

  • Forgive me, but I still like the Andrews Sisters better. I will say that the Lord Invader one is pretty good.

  • Live the Andrews sisters but this one is far better.

  • This is far better than the Andrews sisters version which has been has been decalypsoed

  • i just hope the guy who wrote this got paid his royalties!..very interesting..never heard it before

  • @tim60s321 He was paid $150,000 but Maurey Amsterdam retained the copyright, a compromise with each party obtaining what they valued most at the time.

  • @lazurm my friend just a little correction it was $300, 000

  • i can't wait to share this with my old man.....i doubt he'd know that this is the original version. i like the andrew sisters version too.........but this one is smokin' - almost traditional folk????

  • Lol, I actually like this version. But like the Andrews Sisters version also. Jammin...

  • this track is fire, friendos.

  • Real Vinatge CALYPSO, i like it. Shake me rude boy.

  • This is my great grandfathers song Look up Lionel Belasco

  • Anybody know who (if anyone) holds the copyright on Lord Invader's "lost" verses - the ones which weren't appropriated by Morey Amsterdam? A group called Pearson Education wants to publish them and needs permission.

  • he was handsome though...

  • now this si the real deal....

  • Blessings! The song doesn't sound like an exploitative advertisement for the US Army like this. I'm so happy to discover this.

  • Reminds me of forgotten days of 45 rpms. Thanks.

  • Lord Invader succsesfully sued The Andrews Sisters over this song. They did a great version of it, so did Calypso Rose and Prince Buster.

  • 64impalaboi- Why would you think that he is Cuban? He is singing in english not spanish.

  • This written in 1943., not 50s. Andrews Sisters version 1946.

  • lyrics???????

  • Let the world know that the composer and singer of " Rum and Coca Cola" is Lord Invader, a Calypsonian from Trinidad and Tobago W.I. This is one of the big songs from Trinidad that made it Internationally back in the 50's. A True Classic.

  • is he afro-cuban

  • ??? no trinidadian

  • 'lord invader'? where that name come from? sounds like something from star wars

  • I think it from Invaders Bay in Carenage

  • @ancbcc ahahaha

  • kaiso kaiso!

  • For the full story of Lord Invader's composition of "Rum and Coca-Cola" and the litigation which followed the release of the Andrews Sisters' version of the song, type "rumandcocacolareader" (with the quotation marks) into your search box.

  • The song by the Andrew Sisters is actually plagiarism. In 1950 the suit went through.

  • @mrsarjona ..... yep Buddy Sorrell had to cough 150K to Lord Invader, the crook had a lot of explaining to do to Pickles :)

  • @pt1gard

  • @mrsarjona Yes- believe it or not it was ripped off the orignal composer in Trinidad by Morey Amsterdam (Dick Van Dyke show)

  • @mrsarjona It was Morey Amsterdam who ripped it off and had then record it, believe it or not

  • @mrsarjona so what? if it wasn't for the andrews sisters, i would never have heard of lord invader.

  • Very nice! Knowing the Andrew Sister's song it is interesting to learn where it came from. Thanks for posting!
