Jung was hugely influenced by Freud, not so much by his theories, as by his methodology. (i.e. (i) the examination of the unconscious, (ii) use of dream analysis, (iii) use of free-association (iv) the study of myths and ancient history (v) the study of primitive peoples)
Freud even wrote about the concept of the collective-unconsious in his work. But Jung wrote that Freud's personality was more Feeling than Thinking, and that he was not willing to change his theories
Frued just went a little mental with the whole penis envy and men wanting to have sex with their mothers and suppressing those feelings while growing up. Freud himself was attracted to his own mother, and I think that was his only-way to rationalize his own nature.
I think what Jung is saying regarding his difference with Freud:
Jung feels, (much more than Freud), that a mans personality is highly influenced by his experiences, (and that experiences could lead to pathological development of the personality)
However, (if I understand the conversation), Freud felt man's personality was much more influenced by his own inner constructions, (rather than influenced by others)
Hmm well I feel that the development of the society is a spiral...one of the polarities is collectivism vs. individualism...the conflict will lead to conjunction of the west's achievements and of islam's way of life...so soon enough west will become collective like muslim countries and muslim countries will become technologically developped like the west and we'll all be friends:)..utopia? maybe...
P.S. big bow to dr. Jung...taught me half of what I know
The interview gets kinda weird near the end....very interesting though.
