the lead man did a really bad job, you want to sweep up and down, on the wall looking for window sills, door knobs ect.. he also moved too slow, if this were a reall fire you have factors such as running low on air supply, roof collapse, ect... you basically need to move your ass lol,
I am just a firefighter student right now, but I think they could have moved a lot faster. Lead guy needs to sweep more and especially sweep up the wall-- you might want to know where windows are incase you need to find an alternate way out. Second FFdid a good job spreading his body out and covering space.
@henner12 Yeah The inside guy was a Jr firefighter at the time. Hes no longer in the fire service with us. The guy on the outside works part time with us, and is a career city firefighter some where else!
Good training exercise, adding the element of heat, smoke and fire would surely increase the effect. We had just did some training this week on SAR with probationary firefighters. Explained to them the importance of a primary search and secondary searches. We had a maze with walls, doors with wires across them and open walls with 16" studs, a 16" hole in a wall and at the same time looking for victims.
After it is all done we explain to the probationary fire fighter the importance of knowing your surroundings(mentally and physically) you are the eyes of the IC. We also explained to them them the possibility of flashover and knowing its signs, low pressure alarm going off and what to do, using the hose to find your way out just by feel and most importantly "Communication".
i just did this not to long ago but we had Heavy metal music blairing in our ears and chainsaws were crankin.. and our BA masks were blackout out.. its very hard to communicate with your partner but its great training for search and rescue
yea i love doing search and rescue it's the best kind of training there is out there. I think you guys could of moved a little quicker and there was no communication.
We just did a SAR drill like this last night except we emptied our front two bays donned full gear blacked out our masks chanrged two hand lines unrolled 50 ft of hose activated a man down alarm and had chainsaws running and our captain yelling pure craziness 30 mins of air and just about everyone empitied their tanks
yeah im a cadet at north west career center in columbus ohio and we did our first search and rescue today and man it was the funnest thing i've ever done. but we had all the lights off and was using our scba and mask with air and it was fun
I am doing this up in Maine were using the upper part of the station and having all windows and everything covered up so its 100% pitch black and and we have things set up in the way doing 3 man searches and sometimes there a body sometimes not were using tanks and masks without the mask hooked up to be honest its a lil scary but you actually learn what to do its interesting what we do. I like what you did Shit hit the fan part I might talk to catain in up coming training about trying this
