so this method wouldnt be suited to make gears for a cars transmission right?

No I would not recommend the process for that application unless the car was a model car say in the 1/8 or 1/10 scale range

are these hobs suitable for cutting billet car gearbox gears? what pitch should be used on them? cheers

No , I would say not, This is intended for the hobby machinist for hobby related projects. I am not sure what billet car gearbox gears are so I am at a loss.
