  • bong hits at the beginning

  • I always assumed the intro was a double-meaning thing the sound of a water bong or Whitney Houston's last words...

  • This song feels so good when you experience some assholes practise evil iniquity.

  • its the noise you hear as you run out of oxygen while diving. the theme of drowning is visited throughout the album.

  • IS THAT WHAT THAT NOISE IS AT THE BEGINNING? a water bong? I always thought it was some kind of lawn mower or weed whacker engine sort of stalling out... Can anyone please confirm this opinion? I would really like hard evidence that tool does drugs...Actually who am I kidding... "the pot" should be my answer to that question...but is this sound really a water bong? Ive never used one. Also that picture in the video is AWESOME I really want it...dunno how to capture images...

  • @PizzaHunter2011 the pot has nothing to do with drugs. jezus.

  • @Lake1771 "The Pot" IS NAMED AFTER POT dude. I know the song itself is more about hypocrisy or something, but that doesnt change the fact that 'pot' was part of the double meaning of the song. Wait a min u must be kidding me or something cuz I just remembered the lyrics are "who are you to wave your finger"..."YOU MUSTA BEEN >HIGH<".

  • water bong at the beginning of the song

  • Best sounding bass lines in all of music.

  • This is perfect for the global revolution against the Corpocracy that is forming!

  • last thing i heard on my walk home was this and all i can think to describe it is "Just fucking listen to it go"

  • Once you've seen 'em live, you now have the standard to judge all other bands by. Clue you in on something;

    None of them measure up.

  • What album is this from? I couldn't find it on any of the four

  • @kristofor12345 It's on Undertow.

  • Buy there CDs

  • Why do the young people need to curse with their mouths? That is why they Lie, Cheat and Steal!

lol Keenan Thompson as Bill Cosby

  • Ode to My Bosses..... that's how i feel right now.

  • I hope you didn't do the art work in this video. If you did no offense, but whoever painted that should be shot; it's a complete destruction of Alex Grey's work...

  • sarah murdoch belongs in jail

  • so true ...

  • I still think Aenema is the best album and song.

  • Comment removed

  • im luvin the bubbling sound of the sheesha in the begining

  • FuturistiC

  • they played this song live in NOLA last weekend and it was intense

  • love this, thats all i can say, lol

  • tools best albums undertow and aenema

  • yrsuh

  • BEST ALBUM!

  • fucking good shit, great band!!

  • How can I TOLERAAAAAAATE!!!!!!!

  • HITS FROM THE BONG

  • man, if you've ever done drugs, whether that be smoking a joint or chewing magic mushrooms and then played guitar or written under the inlfuence, then you'd understand the insane ideas that come to your head.

i sing and play bass and my best friend plays guitar and we always smoke a joint before jamming, because it gets us into creative open minded mode haha

  • Yea, shrooms expand your mind like crazy. You see so much sub-visual art.

  • I fish while doing it. I feel I can sense where the fish are and what they will bite.

  • @danzig5 that is a bunch a bull. im in a band myself and if you think you need to be under the influence of drugs to be able to write music, then you know nothing about music.

  • @danzig5 we've done this too... no point. you can't pull out the rabbit from the box if it's not there primarily... the thing that you feel you are doing high can never beat the true catharsis of the clear mind (i am not saying im through and done with the process or ever will. i just say drugs won't make you any more artistic/inspired/talented)

  • @unbornanddeathless finally some common sense.

  • @danzig5 dude, well put! :D

  • line 3 "And I don't want to rot in an apathetic existance."

I believe this is important because this song shows maynards emotions about leaving the church for logic.

Then again perhaps I am projecting.

  • It is important either way

  • adam jones did say the pot also had to do with the government's hypocrisy about marijuana, and to answer dongyongkim's question, do you think people on drugs could write music like this? I highly doubt it

  • they have said many times that they do use drugs, this just goes to prove that drugs used in moderation can be very beneficitial

  • @Coldheart101 Maynard is totally against drugs, your sources are not to be trusted.

  • @Hagarrd182 have you listened to third eye? also have you heard much else tool?

  • @Hagarrd182 Are you fucking high, he's not for or against it. He just doesn't care. Get your facts straight nigger.

  • @justinisboss not true!

  • Probably my favorite tool song off my favorite tool album

  • @8lwc8

Actually it is "Why can't we not be sober?"

It has a double-negative. Simplify it - 'why can't we be drunk?'

Other then that I totally agree with you

  • Tool what can i say....Brilliant!!!

  • Buddy, any REAL TOOL fan would say that ever single one of their songs is worthy of every praise possible. I'd like to think that I have at least average intellectual capacity. So thank you for speaking on behalf of people and musicians you have never met and also disrespecting a bunch of their fans at the same time. Really, I appreciate this. By the way, every single TOOL song is worthy of highest praise, pure music has been pumped through my brain in the form of TOOL.

  • @MacMan282 What CAN I SAY! THANK YOU FOR PROVING MY POINT> IVE BEEN LISTENING TO TOOL SINCE "94 YOU probably were shitting in your hands and eatting it for fun. THANK YOU!

  • Everyone else has been listening to your verbal shit for a lot longer I bet. Your welcome. Calm down...

  • get a life

  • @MacMan282 yeah i agree

i like the 99% of tool music

not only the singles or what radio and t.v. offers you

    of this 5 stars band

  • is that the shakra in that vid? O.o

  • i dont get it does maynard or any of tool's drug users because the pot, sober, and Rosetta stoned "SEEM" to advocate against drugs? either way good song

  • such a kick ass band i love tool

  • im with fuzzbuzz on this one

  • I wouldnt mind having a talk with this maynard character... :D

  • neither would i.. he would probably offer me some mind altering substance.

  • like more of his music?

  • maynard is a genus.

  • i think the word your looking for is genius

  • 2:16 is so fucking cool

  • Tool isn't as open as a lot of you people who want to seem cool think, all these songs have meanings by maynard

  • going to just paste the same comment as i did before with "you lied"

A primary purpose of Keenan's lyrics for Tool involves a desire to connect with the listeners on a personal level; to encourage them to look within themselves for self-identity, understanding and reflection.[52] Tool does not include lyrics with any releases as Keenan believes most people "don't get it" and it is not a priority of the band that people do.

    Copy-paste from wikipedia

  • Wikipedia is a bad source, anyone can write in it.

  • Yes, but as long as a certain passage has cited its sources and the sources check out then it's an extremely useful tool.

Wikipedia is correct far more than it is incorrect.

  • because most people are too narrow minded to listen to tool.

  • lol --'

  • Im with you on that

  • i believe that to a certain extent but i struggle with the subtle hypocrisy of feeling a superiority complex from listening to tool.

  • @Orac1e

    *sigh*

    Here's another one.

I don't hate Tool, but I'm not the biggest fan either. I felt like I should listen to their older stuff too, to form a complete opinion of them.

I wouldn't go out and buy their shit. That's all I'm saying.

If you think I'm closed minded for trying to broaden my horizens, but just don't really like one band, then you are the ignorant one.

And don't give me shit about "deep lyrics". Their lyrics are great.

  • @justforthelulzzz Can't speak for all the Tool fans, but I say to each his own. good on you for not just jumping on the bandwagon. there's a reoson music comes in so many forms after all.

  • I don't want to be hostile.

I don't want to be dismal.

But I don't want to rot in an apathetic existance either.

  • ahhh a young mynard

  • one of tools best songs

  • tool fucking rocks does anyone nop who this song was written too? indians? polaticins?

  • It can be for many things.

But it is basicaly about when you are starting to be annoyed at a person's actions.

  • I know a version that it is written to baptist church

  • @Raikard46 giving someone a foot but they take a yard. Bastards, don't know when to stop until they are angry.

  • @Raikard46 actually, it fits perfectly with my hatred towards my husband's ex. malicious woman.

  • @mat1000128

    religion

  • @mat1000128 this song was writen to jesus:

veil of virtue hung to mask your STIGMA as i smile...

one of the few blasphemorous songs of tool jeje

  • Comment removed

  • @sangreturquesa Not so much Jesus, it sounds more like there addressing the church

  • @VictoriousGamer yeah that too

    like prison sex

it's directly against that or the experience of go to a church

  • @mat1000128 Indians? Uh?!? You arent that bright are you? "Thou shall not Lie Cheat or Steal nor Tolerate my Peers that do" is the code for the Military College in which Maynard attended when He was younger.

  • @smoothoperator427 thanks for that post. saved me wasting finger energy on the dumb fuck

  • @mat1000128 I think it could be towards a significant other. haha Describes an unfaithful partner quite well
