  • what is the purple blue light? I am guessing it is cherenkov radiation?

  • @thmtrx No, just the plasma forming within the vacuum. Cerenkov radiation usually refers to the blue glow created in single atmosphere particle discharge. It can also apply to particles reacting in a similar fashion within a fluid such as water. One of my pending videos will be of a Lenard Tube which clearly demonstrates Cerenkov Radiation in open air.

  • Thats awsome! I dont know many people who can make their own CRT, give urself a pat on the back. 5 stars

  • How large of a vacume did you have to go down to?

  • The system was leaky to say the best. There was no vacuum gage hooked up but experience would guess that it was between 50 and 75 microns.

  • ion-burn. hehehe

  • Hey, wonderful! This looks awesome. You should show this in detail with lights on to see how you achieved it. Regards!

  • Thanks. I agree, it is a bit dark. Ill try to add another video with some stills of it in the light.

  • Nice work!

  • whatta the noise?

But nice CRT... CAn u focus it more?

  • Noise? Its the vacuum pump

This version cannot focus any better. Am currently building a more precision electron gun for th crt. The new one will have a smaller aperature and a biased focusing anode. My day job is delaying its comnpletion. Hopefully I will be able to post a better followup video within 3-4 weeks.

    Thanks for the comments

  • Beautiful work!!!
