  • I'd play this song in the dead mornings of summer from like mid July to early August. it's scorching hot outside. and my ex-girlfriend left me. I wen't through the worst anxiety/depression of my life. once I was over her, and everything was getting better, I found someone new. I'd wake up and talk to her, just blasting this. I still have her to this day. This song reminds me too much of that.

  • that;s not easy to say

  • Laaaangweilig

  • this song was on foo fighters back and forth!!!

  • a real tear jerker this one

  • Dedicated to Richey Edwards.

  • Dave, Pat, William and Nate... those were the mid 90s. <3. Miss that.

  • @ApparitionOfficial ba not really they started to really get good with taylor and chris and well pat is right now in the band

  • @MrSchulze04 its all about opinions.

  • @ApparitionOfficial well succesfull actually.thats a fact ;)

  • @MrSchulze04 alright

  • What a beautiful song, the chords, simple as they are have strong melody and convey the feeling of the song, augmented by Dave's sincere vocals. And when it all explodes towards the end, man...

  • 5 People don't truly understand music.

  • i miss my best friend he died 2 years ago in a motherfucking car accident..now i got more than17 years of memorys, its more than fucking hard..some body feel me?..god damn.. MISS YA DANIEL SO MUCH

  • this song is perfect.

  • i used to listen to this song everyday when i was like 15

  • I love this song but it gets me thinking:(

  • Sounds close 'cuz he was ex Nirvana, plus everybody will compare his first years with his ex band...

  • this song is fucking SICK

  • Be it talking about Kurt or not, it's undeniable the resemblance of this track with Nirvana's music style.

  • this is one of my faves by them

  • How I miss him...Hopefully he'll come stay someday :(

  • Man i miss her...

  • To A.S.M., i still love u...

  • I'll always miss her.

  • @zanystros Time builds on time and eventually enough things dilute the feeling. Ah, hell, you'll probably always miss her though. Hopefully it will just dissolve into wondering what it coulda been like and not much more than that.

  • I likee!!

    sii es Buenisima!!

  • What a moving song. God damn do I miss her. One of the greatest bands of all time

  • How I miss her...

  • Daves mouth looks like a bird lol

  • @SnickersAufmMars kill yourself, please.

  • @Caderox but its not about that it may seem like it but its not supposedly ive heard the Grohlinator himself say the first Foo album was just a fluke with no meaning wasnt up until the next album tht he started writing songs with meaning but i guarantee he was very sad i'd be pissed too if i were him DAMN THIS IS TOO FCKN LONG lol

  • Amo esta cancion...la amo!

  • Outro drums sound a lot like X-Static

  • who's kurt?

  • @arishabelikova yea she does haha

  • Comment removed

  • @M4A1xavier aww that girl sure knows ur taste in music

  • Listened to this when my girlfriend first broke up with me, now But Honestly is a bit more appropriate.

  • why all the analasis of the meaning...simply it's a wonderful song that it...

  • i miss my girl, we always listened to the foo fighters when we were laying together talking about the future, the one we never had

  • if this song is about kurt it would be kinda gay

  • I know best! Everyone else's opinions are stupid!!!

  • ALLISTER LOB (Dave Grohl, Mikey Dees, Lisa Grohl) April, 1992 Laundry Room Studios Seattle, WA SETLIST (21:35) ----------------- 01) Podunk (instrumental) 02) Make A Bet (instrumental) 03) unknown (instrumental) 04) How I Miss You (instrumental) 05) unknown (instrumental)

  • I might add that Friend of a Friend was also about Krist Novoselic. Dave wrote it in 1993 (I think) while he was living with both of them.

  • @thespainisharmada Dave would have written Friend of a Friend in late 1990 or early 1991 when he was living with Kurt in Olympia. Dave moved out and got his own place in Seattle around the time they recorded Nevermind.

  • ask kurt about how much daves songs are about kurt..better yet quit assuming u have any wisp of knowledge into anothers mind

  • Also, every song about not liking something/someone MUST be about Courtney Love.... /sigh.

  • Did Dave ever make a song for Kurt?

  • @SmellsLikeReason Friend of a friend

  • @SmellsLikeReason No, none of his songs are about Kurt. There is only one song that has ANYTHING to do with Kurt and it's Friend of a Friend, which Dave wrote while still in Nirvana, and it was about Krist and Kurt.

  • It's a great song - and, yes, the song does get harder.

  • touchy song

  • poor mendell

  • Must be annoying to write a song & think ppl will always think its about Kurt. Poor Dave

  • YES THIS IS ABOUT KURT OMG OMG

    /troll

It's not, but it's a nice song anyways.

  • @Tomarathon The only song about kurt is Friend of a friend lol

  • I thought it was a bout some chick...not about Kurt..That would just be gay..haha

  • why is it with every song on youtube by the foos to do with "missing someone" there has to be someone who says "this is about kurt"??

  • dave grohls' a man of words.

  • what ear was this? they look so young?

  • @big0shot0producer probably 1995 because its the original band.

  • @big0shot0producer This was actually done by Dave with his sister on bass in 1993.

  • love it.

  • FF forever..........

  • one of the most straight to the point songs i have ever heard. massive fan of FF since i first appreciated music and this song is just so simple but hits me everytime i hear it.

    FF forever!!!!!

  • epic... it reminds me of someone. :C

  • Me too

  • Love this song! <3

  • love this

  • Thats what he was doing Nirvana was done before Kurt died. He was already working on foo fighter stuff way before the suicide

  • super hot young pic ov dave <33

  • damn song speaks to me to much right now....but it's epic...

  • i like the picture how it has pat and the old looking super young dave

  • This song is awesome!!!!

do someone know how to play it?

    Thanks

  • its reli simple takes one look at a tab

  • sorry i miss spelled **krist

  • Okay. Basically Friend Of a Friend is the only song about Kurt. Its about Kris too. I hate it when people think My Hero is about Kurt. Not that I dont understand why they MIGHT think that anyway i guesss. But Dave Grohl said in an interview from the 90s that his songs arent even usually about anything in particular. sometimes they are just words that fit and work. And it doesnt matter. Its great music. Just listen and enjoyyyy lol

    p.s. this song is incrediblee!!!!!

  • I hate how people think every single FF song is about Kurt. Dave has a life, and it doesn't revolve around Kurt.

  • I completely agree, it really annoys me that people always assume that. What also annoys me is the fact that people think that Kurt had to pass away in order for Dave to make all this music. If Dave wanted to he could always left Nirvana and persuit his own band.

Anyway, I think this song is amazing just like every other Foo Fighters song ! <3

  • @hhhseanhbk couldnt of said it any better :)

  • @hhhseanhbk ikr the only FF song about kurt is friend of a friend

  • @hhhseanhbk dude wtf they were like best friends. wouldnt u be sad if your best friend died!! jesus

  • ur correct..but he was still his friend...

  • @hhhseanhbk He recently said that he only has a few songs that actually talk about him, such as let it die, come alive, friend of a friend... but not much more than those.

  • The whole theme throught this song is unmistakably Lydian.

  • My Hero is about everyday normal heros... It's not about Kurt.

  • yes lol finaly someone who agrees

  • yes and thts why the video clip shows some random saving the baby and the dog from the burning building not a famous person or a professional or any shit like that

  • I think "There Is Nothing Left To Lose" Is the best Foo Fighters Album I play it everyday Its that great

  • It takes a while before the song takes off, but then it rocks like hell!

  • Dave and Kurt were very close damnit.. they even shared an apartment for quite a long time. and why would he have written something about Courtney Love, he's certainly not that kind of guy.. He doesn't write music about people, except for his childhood neighbor Johnny Park.

  • No song of Dave grohl's or Foo Fighters is about kurt cobain ( although the song "friend of a friend" is about kurt and krist when Dave first joined Nirvana and not about kurt's death since it was written before he died) abd the song "my hero" is more likely to be about Dave's childhood hero Jim Craig, a former goalkeeper for the US icehockey team.

  • Actually resolve is about kurt i think...

If you listen to the lyrics he talks of swinging of chandeliers and such, and if you watch the come as you are video kurts swinging on the chandeliers so...

  • The death of Kurt Cobain: the most annoying death in the history of mankind! Someone please build a time machine and knock that shotgun out of his hand kick his ass so he does not kill himself!

  • my god not every fricken song to do with another human bieng is about kurt

you kurt wasnt the only important person in his life what about his first wife his sister who has that ilness and sutch

  • No Foo's song is about Kurt. Dave didn't want any of the Foo's songs to be about him. They are all about past experiences. Like Learn to fly. Dave wrote that because he had a fear of flying.

  • My hero is about kurt...

  • No it's not you idiot! Only Foo song about Kurt is Friend of a Friend, and thats not even a Foo song, its a Dave song

  • The Songs Not About Kurt Cobain

  • *sighs* How I miss her.... good song...

  • @1nolyphoenix She still thinks about you, too.

  • @WeMustBeStopped How you would know this is beyond me lol.

  • okay, some people here are retarted.

    a) you are arguing over the internet on youtube.

b)should'nt you be posting comments on how you like/dislike the song??

    anyways, kickass song, FF rox

  • sounds similar to still. cobain had so much influence on grohl. listen to in your honor, ESP&G. Can hear cobains influence. probably Grohls intention. never tire of fighting foo.

  • Got a really creepy sound to this, and because of that and the strangeness of this intro, it's great!! hahahahahaha!!

    narm

  • I think it sucks

    hahaaha. just kidding

    its great

dont know what the hack is the problem with these people discussing here

everyones got the right to like it or not and no ones got to do with it

  • The Foo's aren't a bad band. Dave was a good musician even before Nirvana. Listen to Pocketwatch Demos tape which was done shortly before Dave got into Nirvana. Foo's are still a good band to this day.

  • Agreed.

  • what i dont get.. is how invisible your life would have to be in order to be debating on a video comment for a foo fighter video...

not that i dont love the foo fighters

  • I think it's primarily an outlet for those who either a) have no friends, or b) are very withdrawn in real life and don't like confrontation, or last but certainly not least c) are 14 or under.

  • No, we're just fans, and we hate it when people just.. Blatently flame us. It's not being immature, it's.. Irritably, human nature. Bash the wrong guy, 'cause we're the fans, we're the majority, and we ROCK!

    Ahem.

  • I'm not bashing "the wrong guy" - I am completely ignoring the real problem: the total downers. My comment is aimed at encouraging you to do the same. My point is that people who leave stupid messages are completely pointless in their efforts, they're nothings - and by creating any kind of dialogue with them, you're lowering yourself to their level (that of "the idiot") purely by association.

  • God I hate people who try to over explian shit just to make themselves sound smart to the youtube community.

  • Oh man.. you're one of them.. thats a very typical of you to say.. No.. but what would warm my sense of satisfaction, is if you would shut your SMART ASSZ UP>>> is that a very typical response from "One of those"?.or are you going to indulge everyone by useing your brain and giving the BEST! Explanation this site has ever seen. The youtube neighborhood:) is getting really upset with you, or just really luvs u cause of the journalist in you:P.

  • very typical thing of you to say.I meant. damn me watch football while typing!

  • well, that's whatever you're talking about for you

  • Amazing what tools 4 year olds are capable of using these days. When I was your age we didn't even know what a computer was.

  • Really? Go listen to Scream's Gods Look Down. That's by Dave. That's him singing on it. He recorded it before he'd even heard of Nirvana.

  • i couldnt agree more

  • Rubbish! Dave would have made it anyway...

  • i agree, he had already started working on the pocketwatch cassete didnt he

  • Yeah - and look up a song by Scream called Gods Look Down. Dave recorded that on his own in about 1987-88 in Barrett Jones' basement (like Pocketwatch, Allister Lob and the first Foos record), then re-recorded it in 1989 for an album called Fumble with Franz Stahl on guitar and Skeeter Thompson on bass. It's absolutely marvellous.

  • Nirvana =/= Foo fighters,

Kurt didnt make Dave, he worked himself up the ranks.

your a retard, stop assuming everything you drunk oh and btw look at my profile next time mate im Australian.we could break away from the british, why couldnt you?

  • So what your saying is, EVERY piece of Foo figher's in all their albums, dave grohl wrote them ALL for Kurt cobain? just because dave got known for being in Nirvana, doesnt mean he dedicated his LIFE to kurt. STFU and get your facts straight.

  • How I miss the foo fighters.....more and more every tour! fuck, I need to get tickets next tour when they come back to Pennsylvania..

  • well i'm with you (except for that i live in london) but i read and interview in november this year in which dave said that they still needed to take a LONG break and would continue the hiatus so i wouldn't expect any new stuff until late 2010/early 20/11 to be honest :)

  • WTF?

  • God, this is good.

  • ahhh :]

    i love this song!

i only found out about it though like a week ago, i think. :]

    <3

  • dave and lisa woooooooooo

  • whos the song about

  • BEFORE ANYONE SAYS KURT COBAIN, THIS SONG WAS WRITTEN IN 1992/3.

    FACT. So there.

    rant over

  • it shits me when people say every piece of foo fighters songs are about kurt too

  • i i know what you mean, it does get pretty annoying - just thank god that dave said the name JIMMY in word forward (newish song) cause otherwise there would be a whole other song to add to "it has to be about Kurt Cobain!!!!" list.lol i love kurt but honestly...

  • this song is so .. amazing

    u can't not like it

  • =D love it

  • Hehe... I found another Allister Lob song on youtube right here: /watch?v=2pPesMHjPAI

The guy probably doesn't even know who "Allister Lob" really is. Then again he probably doesn't care. :)

More info: There are five known songs (again, none with vocals) from that session, as follows:

Podunk (clealy an early version of this song)

Make Bet (early, really monotonous version)

    Unknown song

How I Miss You (vocals recorded later, released on I'll Stick Around single)

    Unknown song 2

  • FYI, everyone--

This song was recorded in 1992 for a project called Allister Lob. The lineup is as follows:

    Dave -- guitar and drums.

    Mikey Dees -- guitar.

Lisa Grohl (Dave's sis) -- bass.

The Allister Lob recordings surtfaced a few years ago, including this song, all without vocals. When Dave recorded the vocals is anyone's guess.

  • Mikey Dees? Not the drummer from Motorhead?

  • God. Such a great song.

  • I like this song, but i dont like it when i play it on my iPod loud and then the loud bit starts... and, well it scares me...

  • This song is awesome-awesome. It's got everything. =)

  • Eh.... Funny guy.. =)

  • that was funny man

but this song is pretty much awesome

  • lmao

  • One of my favourite songs ever, thanks a million for uploading!

  • the foo fighters are probably the best band ever

  • Awesome song, where I can find it? I've got every album but it's not there, is it on a single b-side? Maybe someone could upload it ;)

  • Excellent, searched for this not sure if it would be on here and it is, cheers.

  • Awesome. One of my favorite Foo songs, so I was glad to find it on here.

  • dave drumming no doubt.

song is cool by the way

  • sweet ^_^ tanks

  • thats goldsmith

  • No...that's Grohl. This was recorded all by Dave Grohl....before he assembled Foos lineup in 1995.

  • sue :) hab dich lieb ..

  • Grohl did everything on this track, except for the bass which was played by his sister Lisa. great song

  • It is grohl playing on this song.

  • Has anyone checked out the live version where a cute girl named Amber sings...eh...tries to sing along? It rocks. By the way, is Grohl playing drums on this track or is it Goldsmith?

  • I dont know if is Grohl or Goldsmith, I guess that is Grohl, about that live version, well I saw it and it was great, but Amber sings too bad for me, but well, she's cute :)

  • Now that you mention it, I think it's Grohl, too. He's got a very precise and hard-hitting style, fitting to this track. Yeah Amber's cute, but she sounds like...eh...

  • tis grohl, he recorded all 12 album tracks & single B-sides.

  • I heard that the bassist here is actually Grohl's sister...
