  • @phrenzy1 - This wasn't lightning chess, it was a full length match game with the old time controls of 40 moves in 2 and a half hours, followed by 16 moves in an hour thereafter. They were rushing to make the second time control at move 56 with both players having very little time. Also, this was day 2 of this game - in games using these time controls, they were adjourned after 5 hours of play.

  • looking at the footage i saw karpov's time running out so how exactly did gary lose? XD

  • It looks like they're playing allegro or lightning, it's been along time since I played competition chess, not since I was 12 but I never imagined seeing players at this level being so fast to check the timer and move peices, especially when they then take time to write and think, is it a partial psychological thing?...how long are the matches anyhow?

  • schach-brett.de

  • Petemackenshaw the players get to choose what kind of chair they want to have during play.

  • Why are their chairs different from each other?

  • @Petemackenshaw The players probably get to choose a chair.

Altough I'm not sure how they do this. Do they just receive a catalogue of chairs and select one? lol

  • kasparov tramposo

  • lol kasparov was mad and disapointed

  • i love how fast the exchange pieces

  • Kasparov didn´t overlook Bh6...he commented that he forgot his analysis...he and his team had analyzed that position the night before to the resume of the game...we are talking about an old era of chess when the game, after move 40, was suspended and continued the next day...

  • 1:35 Flawless movement from Kasparov ... No wonder he was the most feared player in the world for upwards of 20 years! I would shit my pants if someone moved like that!

  • @Fupper16 You are a pants-shitter we all know that.

  • @bierbuik And your an intellectual who favorites terminator and ali-g as your philosophical videos you watch ... stupid bitch

  • @Fupper16 Quit shitting your pants, pants-shitter.

  • @bierbuik Wow, this comeback was even more original and innovative then your previous one! Seriously, I have a question: is there nothing to do in your mom's basement but go on youtube and randomly pick fights with strangers? Go fuck your mother, jack off to gay porn, and find something to do with your life ...

  • @Fupper16 No, QUIT shitting your pants, you pants-shitter, not continue to shit your pants. Can't you read?

  • @bierbuik Why are you doing this? I don't know you, I've never known you. All I did was comment on a video, and you begin this tirade. Are you SERIOUSLY THAT BORED???

  • @Fupper16 What the fuck. Are you out of your mind?

  • I miss those analog clocks.

  • Karpov is like Kasparov´s kryptonite...

  • coz he lost thats y...when u lose u just wanna punch the guy...his fault is that he won!

  • When I am losing I want to punch myself, there's no reason to be angry to the opponent.

  • They played in so artistic way!! Drama

  • Comment removed

  • i see allways when kasparov loses against karpov- karpov open quikly his hands before the handshake like:"ok i think that was it" and kasparov totally disgusted does allways the same thing but he never look him into the eyes.

a russian love story-i love them both sorry for grammar

  • at 4:25

  • lol neterlands sound so the same way like german. i understand 50% of it without having any idea about the language at all

  • even the best of the best make utterly simple mistakes. i read a book about the 72 Fischer/Spassky match and (i forget in which game it was) Spasskey had hover looked a move as was so revolted at his mistake he spun the chair around with his back to Bobby and was fuming. when he turned back around again to continuel play he couldnt even look at the board, kept looking left and right. Bobby sat there looking at with with an almost sympathetic look. hey - shit happens

  • 4:30 You know Kasparov didn't want to shake hands ... I think he wanted to punch Karpov lol

  • it wasn't Karpov's fault, you moron

  • @iDraw3G I'm not sure you understood my post ... I never said anything was Karpov's fault ... please explain

  • why would he want to punch Karpov if it wasn't his fault?

  • It's a pity we can't see the exact time of the clocks...

  • I like how Kasparov was stone-cold still for about 45 seconds after Karpov's brilliant innovation 53.Bh6!

Just shows every player must look a little deeper before making sound-sacrifices

  • why can't we see the position?

  • no, he resigned.

  • what are they writing down?

  • If they have the time, they're writing down their moves. If they're in time pressure, they're just making check marks next to the move number to make sure they make the time control.

  • @edbermac THIS IS NOT SEVILLE 1987 AT ALL. FIRST; THE TABLE SAYS "EXPO 92", SECOND KASPAROV WON THE 23RD GAME IN SEVILLE WITH THE WHITE PIECES.

  • @examinfo Wrong. This is the game, you can even see Garry freeze after Bh6. Garry lost game 23, which made game 24 a must win game (and he did win).

  • @examinfo this is sevilla 1987 for sure, the logo expo 92 was just a promoting

  • @examinfo The expo 92 sign is an advertisement, and secondlly karpov DID win the second-last game of 1987. Kasparov won the next game to draw the match and retain his title. You can look up any database of the 1987 match and you will see that the movest of the 23rd game are exactly the same as in this one.

  • @edbermac What's the point of making check marks? Why not just leave the moves blank?

  • @edbermac

What's the point of making check marks? Why not just leave they're moves blank?

  • moves

  • Chess notations...chess moves.

  • their moves. They are recording the game so that they can later study it and find improvemnents.

  • their moves..in high offical games you have to record them until you get down too.i think 5 minutes?

  • Thanks for clarifying this geekyviking..it's a bit confusing since they also has the Genoa Expo in 1992 (although unrelated to the Expo in Seville) and this is 5 years prior to that.

  • Kind of odd it says Expo 1992 on the side of the table...where does the 1987 come in?

  • It says Expo '92 :-)

perhaps Expo is a company which was founded in 1892?

  • IDoThink1: Expo (or Universal Exposition aka. the World Fair). Goes back to, I think, when they built the Eiffel Tower.

  • How did Kasparov indicate his resignation? I only see the arbiter come on stage and stopping Karpov's clock. did Kasparov lose on time?

  • No he resigned, The arbiter came on stage because the timetrouble was over (they made the required moves) and they still had to write down the moves made. After that, play should continue. However Kasparov decided to write down "1-0" on the paper and signed it. (starting at 3:57 )

  • he had less than 5 mins left on his clock, but he resigned because of a blunder.

  • So why was 50 ...R7f3 a blunder? Was it an unsound sacrifice or did he just have a total brain fart and hang it to the pawn?

  • Unsound sacrifice. Kasparov must have missed 53.Bh6!, which is the only winning move from that position. Without this possibility for white, maybe 50...R7f3 would have been a reasonable move.

  • for real dont go so fast it;s like hour long games CHILL OUT masters!!

  • This was the end at the second time control. Kasparov had just played the blunder R7f3.

  • Really exhausted thats why...

  • why do kasparov move so fast?

  • notice that his flag is about to fall

  • Dominated.....wow

  • If this was a Blitz game why did they write their moves?

  • It wasn't blitz...

  • Only karpov wrote his moves, it is because I think he had more than 5 minutes on his clock, in which case you must keep writing (depending on the increment). Kasparov was under 5 and only started writing the moves after he had lost.

  • this is a WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP game. Porbably like 5 hour chess time.

  • this is long game but the guys just in time endgame trouble!

  • I haven't check the game itself but from this video if Karpov captured Kasparov's queen on f8, then Kasparov also captured Karpov's queen with his rook. It doesn't look like either of them lost a queen. The position must be lost for Kasparov for some other reason. Great video.

  • Kasparov lost his Bishop c5 few moves later, which he realised in advance...

  • Is there more footage like this of the match!

    This is great!

  • yo tengo subidos un par de este mundial

  • Karpov is being a real sadist here.....

Let his flag fall knowing perfectly well he had played the 56 moves....just to annoy Kasparov :-))

I was so happy after that game.Alas..... :-(

  • Did Kasparov lost his queen. And where can I find the PGN file of this game?

  • over at chessgames you can find a pgn file for this. just do a search for this game. Kasparov lost his queen on move 54 with Bxf8 right after he took Karpov's queen with his rook. Kasp resigned after his 57th move I believe.

  • Was this a blitz match?

  • You would think Kasparov was about to throw his chair on Karpov :-)

  • something about the decisive game 24 would be amazing !!!

  • Great video thanks for posting!

  • Yes, its game 23, but thanks for posting! Great video.
