I do not think this is atrocious pronunciation at all. At least Sudha understands Kannada. I do not know what other commentators are going on about it being badly pronounced. Certainly much better than what other Tamilian singers are singing.
@manige15 thats why i dont listen to nityasree or sudha.atleast they need to udnerstand each word to get the essence of the song to convey the poetry to us.sudha is better but nityasree needs to improve.Just no one to compare great people but it is sad to see that great people like MS,donot have anyone to carry the baton forward.
beautiful madhyamavati...not sri as some people are pointing out, it is S R2 M1 P N2 S N2 P M1 R2 S and not Sa Re M'a, Pa Ni Sa Ni Dha, Pa M'a Ga Re Sa
It's of course Sri ragam as pointed out by Ms.Lakshmi and not Madhyamavathi for the same reason which is mentioned below. However, this is being rendered in Madhyamavathi by most others as well yet MLV's school still renders the krithi in Sri ragam. This is substantiated by Sudha Ragunathan herself in an interview to Podhigai's ISAIYODU NAAN program!!!
Vidushi Sudha Avar is great. Unlike most other composers who just keep praising the God with different names and tributes, Sri Purandara Daasa always conveys important message to the society in his composition. This kriti is about Goddess Lakshmi but whole gist of it is embedded in one iine 'ಶಂಕೆ ಇಲ್ಲದ ಭಾಗ್ಯವ ಕೊಡೆ' ('Shankye illada bhaagyava kodE' , Oh God let me earn wealth that no one doubts i.e. help me to earn it properly). Wish someone post line by line meaning .
Some of the pronounciations are not ok which is quite surprising since she has sung JAGADHODHARANA (another Kannada song)with the right pronounciations. Except for her pronounciations, she has sung beautifully.
I just heard the same song sung by Rama Varma and by Bhimsen Joshi. Seems like the more south you go, the more drawn out the song becomes. I like the drawn out version.
nowdays Sudha is not performing well (possible reason that she is getting old) i dont like her pronounciations it is not clear maybe she shld improve on that
Can some one write the lyric please.

yes i think it is Sri Ragam also. I hear Pa Da ni pa ma and Ri Ga Ga ri Prayogam ( 127 -130) 142-143) 244-245) and ofcourse last ending Aalaap.
Violin showes it too. Typical Tara Sthayi Madhyama was not showed either.

This song can only be heard in the south. Pt. Bhimsenji is also a Kannadiga although living presently in Pune, and hence fluent in Kannada.

this ragam is Sri ragam

Very good, except the pronounciation.
Singers should try to know atleast the way to spell other language words.

A catchy Karnataka Music krithi by Purandara Daasa that is beyond language bounds and make everyone dance. Good rendering by the artist.
