  • Is this recording available anywhere?

  • Pogorelich would likely salute this performance, one that would make Chopin spin in his grave.

  • This has such an Andalucian or Flamenco vibe

  • This has such an Andalucian vibe

  • What is the actual title of the waltz (not the dedication) - Opus #, etc.? I am having trouble finding it on IMSLP.org. Thanks.

  • @iHateAmericanCinema sorry I meant mazurka....

    My bad.

  • Sublime layering of voices... Really one of the best.

  • @iHateAmericanCinema

Mazurka No. 51, no opus number (B. 140 or KK IIb/5 or S 2/5). Anyway, it IS known by the dedicatee's name.

  • Luminous, brilliant perfection. He knows Chopin like no other pianist. I have played this piece, but never heard it until now.

  • Somptueux pianistiquement, complaisant musicalement : tout Sokolov qui joue du piano comme un Dieu, bien souvent, mais tout aussi bien souvent avec un goût très discutable...

  • I have heard him live twice, once in Barcelona and one in Aix-en-Provence and, as others have said, I do not see any other pianist before the public today his equal. Perhaps someone educated, cultured and with influence can nnow persuade our new Government to now relax visa requirements in his case - so English audiences might again have the pleasure of hearing, arguably, the greatest pianist alive today.

  • @smudgepots Impressarios court Kissin instead-

  • OMG this has never been played better by any pianist. The clearness and the pure technical control!

  • che bello...

  • amazing interpretation...sokolov is the one of the best pianists of our time.

  • Oh my god, I didn't know his name until today. I feel that I found a jewel. I feel that other pianists show dig a hole and bury.

  • I'm glad You found him! He truly is the greatest living pianist.

  • прекрасная работа!

  • My fucking jaw dropped. I've never heard such a passionate, breathless trill before! And to think, he's still alive...

  • この幻想的な美しいマズルカの演奏、好きです。

    春の黄昏に、燃え尽きようとする夕日の中で精霊達が踊っているようです。

  • Sokolov is the world's greatest pianist, period, the true successor to Rosenthal, Paderewski, Rachmaninoff, Cortot, Michelangeli, et. el. This is simply gorgeous playing, and my favorite ever playing of this Mazurka.
