  • good philosophy does rely on evidence. e.g. science comes from natural philosophy, a branch that relies on evidence and practiced by more than the physicists. e.g. in modern times, the philosophy of cognition.

it's just that it accepts evidence beyond measurements of length, time, and mass.

  • @pyrrho314 Yeah, I did kinda touch on that, talking about verifying premises with evidence, but not well I admit. I was kinda short on time for that question. It already got more than any of the others if I recall correctly. Anyway, I'm gonna bet you are at a minimum a student of philosophy to have corrected me that way. I'm at best an amateur dabbler, and was really trying to disabuse the popular definition which is closer to "religion w/o a god". Anyway, I totally accept your criticism.

  • @renegade4dio : and I'll admit a lot of philosphers thing it's not an empirical practice and the way they do it... it seems that way. My belief as a materialist is that they have nothing but experiences to go on, so it's still sort of emperical, but dysfunctionally so, involving ignoring the origin of their ideas from their bias.

I suggest you might like some cognitive science, like "Philosophy in the Flesh".

    cheers.

  • Thanks for the response! Great answers, i totally agree about the scientific method, it is the way. I thought it was great that u mentioned law in question #4, thats what i was wondering about. I thought it was great what u said about humans being here for survival more so than understanding, good observation. And i also really liked how you added "thinking" to knowing & believing. This comment section is too short to expand on all those, but i thought it ws great, Thanks!

  • @TheAist Yeah, it's not possible to expound on anything in 500 characters. Heck, I felt really limited just trying to get the response to fit into 15 minutes. Personally my favorite part was the silly one-handed clapping, but I'm sure it isn't nearly as funny to anyone else as it is to me. One's own jokes are probably always the best... ;)

  • @renegade4dio oh yeah, that was hilarious, i forgot to mention that.
