  • How can you dislike this?????????

  • Anyone know who the composer/arranger is?

  • @darktangent10

words by Fred E. Weatherly and arranged by Julie Knowles

  • its from the BBC night of hte Proms, which is on DVD for sure abd probably on itunes

  • this is about a person whose son has left home to go off to war, and he is saying he must go but probably wont return as he might be killed in battle.

  • For me this is about a father's aching love for his son.

  • We sing this song in our men's choir for about one year with the solo of the first tenor and every time it's breathtaking, how much feeling this song has in itself! It's a fantstic masterpiece of music and I love it very much, especially when it is performed by the ten tenors - watch out! Greetings from Austria!

  • BEAUTIFUL!!!

  • i want to marry me a good irish woman : ]

  • goddamnit, this is going to make me cry

  • Can we lose the homophobia people? This is an achingly beautiful song, and we can interpret it any way we like. And I say that as someone who is Irish, very catholic and very gay. So chill out everyone. :)

  • Fix the volume.

  • The song was about 2 men not father and son but 2 men.Look it up

  • We are singing this song in our choir this year. Such a beautiful song

  • This was absolutely beautifullll<3

I love this song and this choir is just breathtaking!!!

  • Crap. My sister told me it was about that.

  • This song makes me cry a lot cuz since I like a boy named Danny and he doesn't like me

  • @nicole8453, that's NOT what this song is about, AT ALL.

  • ya dannny boy makes me cry a lot also. its just one of those songs. I like keith whitleys song, when you say nothing at all. Thats a song that gets to me a lot. hahaha anyhow. ya this is a good version of dannyboy

  • im crying this is too amazing for me to handel !! love it =' ]

  • this has got to be the most beautiful arrangement of 'O Danny Boy' that i've heard, and yet i cannot find it anywhere but here.

  • we sang the same a slightly different arrangement. nonetheless this is a very good song and an amazing choir :)

  • Hello aeolaus, verry nice & excellent music!I live the Song.

    Greetings zaubermaxcharly (Peter) Berlin-Germany

  • Normally I prefer this song to be sung a capella because the simplicity of it is too beautiful to touch, but not this time.

  • Possibly the best LNotP performances I've ever witnessed.

  • Simply beautiful.......

  • freaking amazinggg!!!! :)

  • i wish i knew what this arrangement was. This is the most beautiful arrangement I have ever heard of this song. So wonderful.

  • Excellent ensemble technique - vowels, sync, intonation - combined with a great arrangement. The first business of entertainers is to KNOW THEIR CRAFT - and this compelling performance is the result.

    Well done!

  • what the name of this choir

    anybody tell me

  • On the Last Night of the Proms Danny Boy (part of a much longer Fantasia on British Sea Songs)is sung by a collection of local school choirs along side the Ulster Orchestra.

  • thank you

  • @mrjimbob100 Danny Boy is not part of Fantasia on British Sea Songs, if that's what you're saying.

  • it's the city of derry youth choir. the girls in black r from the codetta, also from derry.

  • thanks for the info...

  • Thought I saw a few of the lads from the UYC there. Its the same version that the UYC did for last night of the proms in 2006.

  • What an asshole!

how exactly did the site of the national flag offend you? what bad has ever come out of it?

the only problem left in our society today in Northern Ireland are people like you who refuse to accept what is!

  • adorable, all of them.

  • i yuv dis song!! ;3

  • A lovely song written by a man for another man.Ya gotta love those olden days.

  • The two men were father and son, so get yer mind out of the gutter.... the son is leaving Ireland to find work, but the father must stay behind. Presumably, the son is going to America, even though both he and his father know that they will probably never see each other again. It happened. A beautiful song based in one of the most beautiful countries in the world. If money were no object, I'd rather live there than here, plus I have relatives still over there and I miss them all.

  • @K3yP1ayer

It was originally intended to be a song from a woman to a man, though it is commonly interpreted to be from a father to a son who has gone off for war.

  • im in that

it was amazin..the best arrangement of the song by far

  • at 0:41 there is a girl that looks almost like she has elf ears lol but a amazing performance

  • lol it dose look like she dose

  • It's so beautiful, I can't stop listening to it.

  • Goodness. these people are really good. i wish my choir would sing that good.

  • The song is beautiful no doubt but i've heard way better

  • just great..how can you ppl accept to be divided?god bless eire and save ulster from the english

    cheers from italy

  • Wow... so touching, so much passion, and beautifully arranged!

  • who is this arrangement by? I NEED TO KNOW! I am love with it!

  • Simply beatiful irish song. It´s a marvellous interpretation

  • just thought you may like to know. This choir is the city of derry civic youth choir and some of the male voices and the girls in black are from the codetta, also from derry.

  • this should be your national hymn, really.and our should be core'ngrato.free ulster, vaffanculo ai protestanti

  • this is the version I want at my funeral

  • I can arrange that.

  • I think it's very beautiful, well done.

  • oh my god I'm in that!!

    we are brilliant.

    cheers for posting!

  • really? where?

  • If you search for ..excerpt from the Last Night of the Proms part 5 .. you will see a later version of this from the Proms 2006. Many of the choir members are the same but a little older.Belfast comes in after 5 mins or so.

  • The most fantastic thing about this video is a very British event like the Proms can now take place in Belfast and be welcomed by both traditions. We've come a long way indeed.

  • I'm in this choir!

We're class like. all grown up a bit now though.

  • God Bless you luckystar121

  • im doin this 4 mi chorus song but where is da ooooooossssss' the supranos do wen the altos r the only 1 singing?plz!i really need 2 practice 4 mi audition

  • Hey! I don't even like Lucky Charm!

  • lol, er me tripped over a 4 leaf clover blimy that American Sierra Nevada

  • i love this song!!! mostly bcuz my name is daniel aka danny aka dan lol!!!

  • The Irish among all peoples on earth are chosen to show the way in love and strenght which flows from this. They are destined to lead the world to a beter way of being in this respect.

  • ...this song is about loss...the loss of a beloved one, be it a child, a parent, a friend, a neighbour...unlike other animals, we have the privilege of being able to put feelings into music...loss is a noble feeling..."Danny Boy" is a more than noble poem...your performance, more than noble, made me travel to another dimension, where one can wash one's eyes in silence...I won't even try to qualify the arrangement...may God bless you all with a smile, the shortest distance between people :o)

  • "but how ever anyone can sound good in a choir"...if I understood your words correctly, that anyone can "sound" good in a choir, with all due respect, you're wrong !!!...anyone can LOOK good in a choir would be more correct...humble apologies if I misunderstood your comment...

  • What a sad song of someone who will never return

  • if it was in singapore why does it say belfast

  • it was recorded in belfast. I merely ripped it from TV

  • Danny boy the song tha holds a place in all the hearts of the free irish! if i an manage it im gonna getthis played at my wedding and funeral

  • Josh Groban's song 'You raise me up' is equally inspirational, love it.

  • During some of the worst times of Northern Ireland's "Troubles", this song stood out as an anthem against sectarian violence. On a number of occasions, Irish boxer Barry McGuigan's father Pat sang "Danny Boy" in place of the national anthem. Barry and his father's rendition of "Danny Boy" did their parts in helping end the cycle of violence in Northern Ireland. THAT made the song very meaningful to me.

  • Like,,this's a Glorious SonG

I thought DannyBoy was just a jazz music, because the title sounded like it..

    But now,,

  • my highschool band played this song for our end of year concert it made everyone in the audience cry. such a beautiful song

  • A great version of my dads favorite song.

I wish he was here to enjoy it.

Is this an annual event, and if so what is the date of the next one?

  • I sung this at my choir concert probably didnt compare to this though

  • Omfg!!! I'm in this choir hahahaha!!!! This is brilliant! Memories of that weekend....hahaha!!

    xx

  • and this was recorded on TV in SINGAPORE. Hahaha!

  • am naw dont think so, i was there. it was recorded in belfast!

  • Yes I know it was, what I am saying is, it came on air in Singapore, and I recorded this clip, that's how it got to be on Youtube.

  • English song... errrr I do not think so. Errm it is Irish

  • LOL written by an english Lawyer in the 1800's. Dunno why everyone thinks it is irish.

  • Probably because the Londonderry Air is traditional (Northern) Irish music. I see your point though.

  • The melody is Irish, and at least 300 hundred years old. The lyrics to "Danny Boy" were written by an Enlishman. But this has an altogether differnt lyric when sung as an "Air from County Derry".

  • very nice although i don't no why but i prefer this song sung by a single voice. but this is still nice

  • English song? Beautiful

  • fine old english song

  • this is so beautiful! I love this song. thank you for uploading this!

  • truely beautiful song and perfect arrangement of it. On e of the most moving songs ever written

  • the proddie hun clockwork orange men sing a version of tis song thats why iv always hated it

  • Oh Danny boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling From glen to glen, and down the mountain side The summer's gone, and all the flowers are dying 'Tis you, 'tis you must go and I must bide. But come ye back when summer's in the meadow Or when the valley's hushed and white with snow 'Tis I'll be here in sunshine or in shadow Oh Danny boy, oh Danny boy, I love you so. And if you come, when all the flowers are dying And I am dead, as dead I well may be You'll come and find the place where I am lying
  • this is a very good arrangement

  • *sniffles* I love this song...

  • my dad sang with the Yale Whitenpoofs in 1977, and when he saw this, he said you did the best performance of "Danny boy" he's ever seen! I am singing it for my choir, and I wish we were as good at you! The arrangement is excellent! The harmonies are perfect! Thank you!

  • Very beautiful! And thank you so much for adding this great performance as a video comment to our version of this classic tune.

    ~Megan

  • You're most welcome.

  • Wonderful!!! A song that transcends all barriers and races and ... helps create a better world. I was born of little European blood and it still brings tears to my eyes after 50 years ago when I first heard it! Thanks

  • Only 12 days left to go to Co. Roscommon again and sing this song together with the lads in the pub.

I love it so much and to me it's irish in it's purest sense.

  • Magnificent song. It sends shivers up my spine and I'm Australian!!! Irish songs are so melodic.

  • the girl on in the middle row, second from the left.. when she sings "calling" in the first verse.. god damn if that isn't divine.

  • beautiful!!!

  • Gr8 song, written by an Englishman though ;)

  • yeah and he loved england so much that he decided to live most of his life in ireland.

  • True, but the Irish claim it as their own, especially the Irish-Americans and the Canadian-Irish.

  • God bless Ireland!

  • dam i love this song

  • hooray! thanks for posting this, really emotional. :)

what exactly is Last Night of the Proms?

  • The Last Night of the Proms is one of the most popular classical music concerts in the world, watched and listened to by an audience of many millions around the globe. Proms in the Park now takes the Last Night party to Belfast, Swansea, Manchester and Glasgow as well as London, reflecting the increased interest in the Proms from around the UK. BBC Proms 2006 featured over 70 orchestral concerts at the Royal Albert Hall and a series of weekly chamber music recitals.

  • Thanks for the positive feedback! I really love this one.

  • They can sing and they are beautiful to boot. Makes me wish my ancestors had stuck it out through the potato famine and stayed there. May I ask where you reside. Proms in the US are high school dances.

  • Irish women are the best!!!

  • Soooo beautiful!

    Thanks for posting.

  • Absolutley beautiful! I have an 18 year old son that's in the National Guard, and this song always makes me cry.

  • On strings and wind doeth this song come alive. Human voices commands the living to seek solice in rememberance. Will ye no come back again? Ah!, I live among spring flowers and the shadows between sun, moon and evening tide. So, you will follow my lead and we will rejoice in complete repose, for life is naught a journey but a stop between the stars.

  • Absolutely beautiful voices. Where is this from?

  • Last Night of the Proms

  • go belfast!
