@degriis how do you know what acid feels like you moron!?Or are you a 'junkie' also?
And I'm hardly on acid 24/7 ye dumb cunt, so the likely-hood of me listening to this song while 'clean',is quite high, and i can assure you,as great as it makes one feel, it does not mimic the effects of LSD.
And for you to call me ignorant is just insulting to your own intelligence, as I am not the one calling a complete stranger a junkie just for trying a powerful, mind opening drug.
finally got to see these guys at Austin City Limits festival this past weekend...incredible show. One of the best of the weekend, and probably the best "surprise" show. I've always liked their music but I didn't know they were going to be THAT good (and entertaining) live!
This is the sort of song which will still hold up for emotion, melody and aesthetic in 20 years where so much of the dross these days will have faded into musak covers in bargain basements.
the wonderful music of elbow, and others, has woven itself throughout my life in a most beautiful way and I am grateful to those who create something of such value that all people can share.....
Simply stunning tune from a simply stunning band who write songs that hit straight to the heart. If you don't like this bands music you don't like life. It's what they write about.

thsi fit quite nicely like glove to hand to one of my treid and tested fanatsites that I draw upon for satisfaction this particlar one can release immense amounts of dopamine thereto euphoria..quite a logiocal process.1 plus 1 equals whatever you want it to equal!..delusions if used as a tool can be wonderous things..if controlled and shown respect..as long as you relise that they are what they are..and dont we all fantasie!
I thought the same. I don't mean to tell you what to do, but a suggestion is to let your feeling just go with it. To give yourself entirely to an album, to focus only on a song and then just dreaming. But maybe you know all this already and you're quite sure it's not for you.
i think it depends a lot on what kind of mood i'm in. sometimes i can really enjoy ambient music like this, but most of the time, i look for something that can keep me entertained. this song floats more than it pushes. maybe late at night when i need to unwind would be a better time to try it on, but right now, i need to rock out.
@porcupotomus I gave my brother - who usually has a pretty good taste in music - an AMAZING Elbow compilation that I put together - and I'm nearly certain that it's collecting dust. He says they're too mellow. I told him that he needs to keep listening to get past it because it's AMAZING stuff. Some people just have short attention spans I guess.
It's GORGEOUS - and, yes, sometimes mellow music. But I don't think Elbow made these songs - I think God made them in heaven. They're THAT good.

im still tryin to figure out if this band is for actual music, or just one of those dumb hard rock punk kinda bands that suck and r trying to make a statement... is this actual music? like not mainstream.
This version is much better than Gabriel's. I am a big PG fan for many many years, but it doesnt have the authenticity of Guy's version. This version literally makes me tear with emotion. PG's doesnt.
I find this original version of "Mirrorball", while being very nice, to be quite repetitive. I very much appreciate the singer's voice, but I think I have to say that Peter Gabriel took this excellent song and brought out the best in it. That being said, both versions are great. I think Peter Gabriel simply took the seed planted by Elbow, and grew it a little bit.
WOW. I admit that it was the Peter Gabriel cover that lead me to this. The track on Scratch my back was easily my favorite on the album and I had to look into who write this wonderful tune. I love this version just as much and I look forward to checking out others by this artist. As of now I know literally nothing about him/them.
Man, I don't know how you people are saying PG's version is better than this. I mean sure, the orchestra is nice, but it doesn't really add anything necessary to it, and PG may have a nice voice, but it sounds almost like a spoken word version of this song. Guy's voice just soars over a beautiful melody here, it's so perfect in its simplicity. You can feel every word he's singing. To each their own I guess, but whenever I listen to this version I feel like this is beauty in song form.
This seems to be far less intense than Gabriel's recent 'cover', which elevates this song to symphonic proportions. From nice pop song to a highly emotional song. but thanks to PG for getting us to listen to a range of otherwise very obscure tracks from unknown bands.
This is very beautiful, but having seen Peter Gabriel perform this with the New Blood Orchestra live last week, I have to say I prefer his version. It made the hair on the back of my neck stand up and brought tears to my eyes. The music combined with Gabo's beautiful voice was mind blowing. Both beautiful in their own right.

Check out a preview of Peter Gabriel's new cover of Mirrorball in my videos - fantastic string arrangement by John Metcalfe, genius (in my opinion!)
