I read an article in Vanity Fair, about Jane Wyman (Angela Channing). Apparently, as the show progressed, Wyman was able to shape the show, more and more, into what she thought it ought to be. So, the Mercedes 600 was replaced by that little Cadillac, the sets became tacky, the plot became trite, and Wyman's religious sensibilities became extremely obvious. But before Wyman ruined it, the series was superb.
