Even though we hate her now, this is when we could say that Netrebko had the potential to be a GREAT singer. If only she had stuck to the roles that fit her dark timbre (unlike Bellini, whom she loves to slaughter). Hvorostovksy on the other hand is a bit edgy. I think she rubs off on the techniques of people around her.
I don't know typical russian couple, but I know very well typical Pagliacci performances. Then I applaud this wonderful interpretation, particularly the Hvorostovsky one; beautiful timbre, changing dynamics, perfect italian.
And finally this is the unique part of Pagliacci of great, great music: refined, original, varied.
How do I get Dmitri's job; that is kissing Anna and getting paid for it? A treat for the ears. Two great singers singing great music. Not hard on the eyes either.
