  • can i plug the microphone into a mixer or an audio interface to make it louder?

  • Did you convert this audio to stereo??

  • @DanielHjorthPhoto I did a dual mono so the audio would come out of both speakers. You can find this in my iMovie Mono how to video. You can do the same with any other video editing tool as well

  • Will it plug straight to my t3i?

  • I just got my mic and it came with a stereo 3.5 jack, not the mono. I cannot get it to work with my Kodak Zi8 but it works with other devices.

  • In my test atr3350 sounds worse.

  • Great review. Ordering one today.

  • This mic will be ideal for me. I'm buying it right now. Thanks for the review.

  • Guys I'm a technician in this it is my living and your prob is the mic will pick up lots o sound try with it on a mic stand and if yourrunning on a battery that isent going to help

  • great review bro, thnx

  • @roruelas Your welcome...hope it helped

  • Hi...........bought the atr3350 lavalier mic for videos for my ipad 2 and seem to be having major difficulty in getting any sound........I merely plugged it into the place for it but did change the battery first.........NOTHING............Very frustrating..........

Please help to let me know what the heck I am doing wroing........

  • @gailspada I have a full video in my channel explaining how to get ipad/iphone to work with the ATR 3350.

  • thanks for the review, i was thinking of getting this for use with my zoom H1n , but the no battery indicator is a deal breaker for me even though the sound seems to be more than what meets my requirements, ill look into other options!

    cheers!

  • I use a Canon FS200 with the mic. My problem is a hissing noise I cannot get rid of. Then, when I make a fake stereo of a recording in Goldwave, the hissing gets even worse. Any idea about the hissing itself and/or what software to use to make my .mov videos two-channel ones? Tha

  • @ragzol Are u using the mic while you have the AC plugged into the camera? If so try it running on battery power alone. I have to do this with my Canon...I get a buzzing noise when I have the AC plugged in.

  • @WoWdasMine its because when i do my post I export the single audio track to both left and right channels :)

  • I have the exact same microphone, however when i record with my computer, the audio is really soft.

I have already maxed out all my computer setting and when I increase the volume of the recording in post-production, the grain increases by alot.

Is there anyway i can solve this problem?

  • Would you recommend these for capturing voice for filming? I'm considering buying a couple with MP3 recorders for an upcoming film project for more control in audio mixing when editing.

  • @BlueFlashProductions Well the issue with using any kind of lav for that type of use is being tethered and for wide angle shots you will see a wire coming off your subject. LAV mics will get in the way of your blocking and if you have your subjects cross eachother you then will become tangled. What kind of camera are you using for your shoots?

  • @GeekwGlasseslive I have a Canon Vixia R10. They're not gonna be going straight to the camera, they're going to an MP3 recorder on the subject, and then I'm syncing it to the video later on though.

  • Well actually in your video the audio seems nice and clear. But maybe because your camera has a gain level witch gives some strength to the mic. But I was expecting you could help me out... well if you ever try recording audio on your MAC let me now.. just to make sure it cames nice and clean as it is in your video. TKS

  • Did you ever tried recording audio in your Mac with that microphone?? What software do you use? - I've just both the same mic, but I cant have nice and clear sound recording on my Mac, even when the level input is set to max volume...

  • @mrsamuelfilipe I have actually never tried plugging the mic into my computer directly. I have a USB Blue Snowball that I use when recording to my computer.

  • @mrsamuelfilipe The audio input on the Macs is a line-level input, not a microphone input. Non-Mac computers will have a microphone-level input, and may also allow line level inputs on a separate jack, or on a jack that can switch between microphone and line levels. A line level signal is much stronger than a microphone level signal, so your Mac isn't getting a strong enough signal, even when set to maximum volume. You would need to boost the level with a mixer or preamp.

  • I have this mic and I get a very noticable hiss when I record with it. I noticed you still have a slight hiss but it's much less than what I'm getting. Any tips on how to reduce the hiss as much as possible?

  • @bigdowdyproductions Funny, I dont hear any kind of hiss?? What kind of camera are you using? I also can not use the mic if the external power is plugged into the cam...not sure if you have had this issue.

  • you can get a mono to stereo adapter

  • Nice review. Do you not get a lot of background echoes in that room using the blue snowball, because mine picks up everything without putting it in a studio with sound dampened walls. In terms of echoes, is this or the blue snowball better?

  • @FRANKIEonPCin1080p I do not have issues with my blue when I use it. I have it set on the number 1 setting on the back not the number 2. I also sit very very close to it with my mouth approx. an inch away from it. I do not use the LAV mic on my computer only the blue. I use the LAV for my camera.

  • Great review. Thanks!

  • Thanks for the advice. Using this model, because my business partner had purchased it a while back, to record some videos w/ a canon hd camcorder and definitely agree in the difference it makes to use a lavalier mic.

  • I watched another video where the guy used an adapter. I don't have iMovie on my computer(PC). I have iMovie on my iPhone4 and use it religiously. How will I get around the whole mono output? Does iMovie on the iPhone allow you to adjust the sound?

  • @ListwithJaime I do not know about the iPhone app. I highly doubt it. You would be better off heading down to radio shack and getting a mono to dual channel adapter. :)

  • Great review! Just a question. How much time does the battery last?

  • @lidercarismatico It really all depends, I have had my current battery in for three months, however I am not using it everyday so im not really sure, as long as you turn it off after each use I see it lasting for quite a long time.

  • Kudos to you. Intelligent and articulate. How many hours can you get out of the battery and if you used extension cable for an outdoor shoot, how long can you go...20 feet or 40 feet? Rock on.

  • Nice review..I like this mic, i gonna have one for me, thanks for the review. But the reason why it doesn't have indicator is to save your battery power. Putting LED on it as indicator will consume more power than the condenser itself.

  • great video and great review. It really helped me.

  • @mitchlichterman Glad I was able to assist. Thanks for the comment! :)

  • Good review on the mic. Now buying one for my Canon 7D. Using a YouTube hack I found to disable the AGC on the camera should produce some killer results.

  • @timetotravel Awesome...should be a great mic for a 7D...good luck!

  • How long does the battery last?

  • @nerwin I haver never used it continuously to determine that. With that said I have used it for a good 6 months making the videos I make and not needed to replace it as long as I turn it off after use.

  • @GeekwGlasseslive I bought the mic and I already have it, today I tested the mic to make sure it wasn't a dud. It wasn't, very good quality. I just haven't got the mono to stereo adapter yet. But anyways, you replied at the right time and I just happened to look over at the mic and it was still on. hahaha.. Talking about good timing. - I ordered a bunch of batteries anyways, just to be on the safe side.

  • @nerwin Haha..glad I was able to remind ya! If you take a look at my iMove 09 Mono export video you will see how you can export mono to both speakers without the need for an adapter. ;)

  • @GeekwGlasseslive Well I don't use a mac, but having the adapter is just easier anyways.

  • very polished review just what i needed to know,i think considering the price of the mic the battery issue is not really a big problem.

Pity they don't do a stereo version.

    Thanks

  • Thank you for an excellent LEGITIMATE review.

    Bob

  • @bobby1776 Your more than welcome! Glad I was able to assist.

  • Great video dude. I just stumbled on this I picked up an at898 today. Gonna test it out soon!

  • This was really helpful, I'm researching mics for video podcasting. This helped a lot

  • @TheHoche Glad I could help, this is a great mic for the price as long as cords dont bother ya! :)

  • Read several great things about this mic, and it's predecessor, the ATR-35s. Great review. Thanks for sharing your opinions. Looking to get one from amazon for $20 soon. Merry Christmas & Happy New Year.

  • @moFirearms Thank You and hope you enjody your new mic! :)

  • An amazing review! love the cutless footage! Subbed! Check out my reviews!

  • @Dimitry49 Yea when I do my reviews I try and do them all in one take...less time working on them that way! I do enough editing for some other projects! :) Thanks

  • Thanks for mentioning the small fact that the case unscrews to access the battery. My ATR3350 did not work on arrival and did not include any instructions. Several other videos have said the unit comes with a battery already installed, others said the unit came with a spare battery. I thought I had received a bad unit. Your small mention told me to unscrew the case. Sure enough, no battery was installed in the unit. Thanks!

  • @Woodenarrows Glad I was able to help ya..

  • I bought this mic based on this review, and it's a great mic for the price. Agreed on the lack of battery indicator being the main minus. There's an adapter from Radio Shack that allows this mono mic to record to both channels of a camera that has a 1/8" TRS mic input (in my case a Canon HG20). I can't seem to post a link, but it's this part #:

1/8" Stereo Plug to 1/8" Mono Plug Adapter

    Model:

    274-0374 | Catalog #: 274-374

  • @Wallaboo Yep...I have one! :)

  • Do you think this would work with some voice recognition software?

  • I got this mic, but seem to get when i am not talking a digital feedback, like a gurgled noise, should I return it?

  • @Laurencia7 Hmmm....what are you recording to with it? Do you have a "noise reduction" option??

  • @GeekwGlasseslive Yes, I figured it out. It was my noise reduction, it kept altering my voice. I shut it off, and now great audio. Thanks.

  • @GeekwGlasseslive yes, there is a lot of noise even when the switch is OFF..i used sound booth...what software do you use to record on your computer.

  • @seragasebonwe I dont use this mic to record directly to my computer. I have a USB Snowball mic I use for that...I only use this Mic to record to my Canon HF-S10 video cam.

  • Thank you for your input. I am going to buy this and your recommendation was very helpful.

  • @Gilbride3 Your welcome...glad I could be of some help! :) good luck

  • Nevermind, u answered it.

  • Great review, but how did you get the mono to stereo in iMovie?

  • @Laurencia7 Check out the video I did called "iMovie 09 Mono How too"

  • @GeekwGlasseslive thanks so much, that helps me tremendously.

  • @Laurencia7 Glad I was able to help! Happy Editing! :)

  • You said something about exporting to iMovie that I didn't quite understand. Can I simply export the video to iMovie the same as if I had just used the camcorder and no mic? What was that about changing audio sounds? Will the audio file be separate from my video file in iMovie? Thanks!

  • @itsmyjobtoknow This mic is only a single channel of audio aka MONO. If you use it as your sound source while recording a video then it will only record a single track of audio that will play from only one speaker. You have to make a simple change in iMovie when exporting the video so that the audio will play from two speakers. I have a quick tutorial video called iMove 09 mono audio how too....look for it on my channel and it will show you how to make it all work!

    GwG ;)

  • Thank you for not clipping the mic to your stomach. This already sets your review apart from all the other crappy reviews of this product.

  • @gaozhi2007 haha your welcome! Mic placement is pretty important. I have seen many people who clip them way to low! :)

  • its funny i hear the audio of this video then watched another review of the same mic and the audio sucked but it sounded clear here?

  • @LMSwarrior12

Because it's a condenser mic, you have to have it the right distance away, about where this guy has it. Most people reviewing this mic clip it to far away.

  • Which 3.5mm lavalier mics run on standard batteries? I despise button cells...

  • @johntsingis Im not sure...I have never come across any actually! :(

  • Excellent and comprehensive review!!

  • @mntroot Thanks ;)

  • Thanks for the good advice!

  • @dlawrenceconsult Your welcome glad I could help!

  • Thanks so much for the review. Watch your "ums" and "what-nots" in your verbal presentation. Would be much more enjoyable without them. Blessings, Val

  • @kipling1957 Awesome..thanks for sharing that tip!!

  • Great review. I would also like to mention that the output is unbalanced. Without getting into technicalities, what that means is that if you want to plug this mic into device that has a balanced XLR input, such as a field recorder or a desk mixer, then you need device called a line-matching transformer that converts an unbalanced signal to a balanced one. These come in different forms, but something like the Shure A95U would do it.

  • Great review that helped my buying decision.

  • @RobAdvertising Thanks.... good luck. :)

  • you really don't understand the kind of drain an L.E.D would put on the battery, even a low current L.E.D would drain the battery with the require forward voltage. what the battery barrel needs is only an orange coloured mark when the switch is in the on position like on Ipod's or Iphone's silent switch. just a bit if paint is all it needs, no more, no less!

  • @alfalfasprout69 Very good point.... ;)

  • great video thank you

  • @TorontosHome Thank You!

  • I am using the same camera and have the same Mic but cannot get near the nice level you are getting, any thoughts?

  • @scotto1215 Are you adjusting your audio gain in record mode at all? Also where are you placing the mic? How close to your mouth??

  • Hi Thanks, I've been wanting to get an inexpensive wired lav and I had been considering this one. Your demo was helpful

    Rit

  • Great Demo!! Thanks 4 sharing. Do U think this mic would work for a musician who's performing live on stage if the mic is securely attached to the mouth piece of the insturment, such as a flute?? and I guess the cable would b plugged into an amp.

  • Best review I've heard of this mic. I think I'm buying it. Thanks mate!

  • Excellent lighting .... what kind of canon camera do you have?

  • @brianmoffitt I am using a Canon Vixia HFS-10 HD

  • Helpful information .... what kind of lighting do you use?

  • @brianmoffitt Nada...was all natural light. There is a big ol window over my right shoulder! ;)

  • Hey Neil, what kind of camera are you using to film this video? Looking for a good one for indoor video at a reasonable cost.

  • @sta99999 I shot this with a Canon Vixia HFS-10. Its a great cam however its a bit expensive around $1,300 You can get a very similar camera as far as optics and sesnor by getting the Vixia HFM-30 for about 700 bucks.

  • makes it sound the way it needs to so thats all that matters to most for youtube videos noe if your talkign about a podcast setupo then yes your right but on youtube vids no that way will work just fine trust me watch my vids you will see some of my home audio stuff for podcast and suck stuffi been doing this for almost 15 years

  • yo to get the audio in stereo all you need is the 3.5 to 3.5 or 3.5 to 2.5 stereo adapter to make it a stereo mic

  • @MRBIGGIEMAC This does not make it a "stereo" mic. A stereo mic is defined by two discrete audio channels a left and a right. By using this adapter you will dub the same audio to both channels so you hear it out of both speakers however it is not stereo. You will not get a left right separation in the audio.

  • Do you pick up any air conditioning sound? Based on your demo, I didn't hear any, but I was wondering if you turned off the AC prior to filming.

  • @jowens1138 Negative...I left everything on cept I did turn on my very very loud 2u rack server which sounds like a jet engine running! ;)

  • Really nice review, I just got this mic. Kind of general question - how do I get any program on my computer to recognize it, using a mac, I have audacity and garage band.

    Thanks

  • How long is the battery life?

  • Good question! I have left the battery on a few times...like about 4 or 5 and it was on for about 6 days or so straight and was still charged. I make a very good effort at turning it off after each use now. I have had the current battery in there for about a month. Batteries are cheap for it and I keep an extra on hand "just in case" Sorry I can be more specific. Thanks for the comment.

  • Could you do a video showing exactly how you'd put it on to hide it?

  • Sure...where are you wanting to place it?

  • Anywhere you think is good... This is my first lavalier mic. Thanks a lot man!

  • Bought mine for 17 bucks online

  • Hey have you figured out an easier way to manage this long cord ? Any cord winder gadgets you aware of?

  • wow i JUST ordered this mic and the information you gave was so helpful. I have a canon vixia HV30 and thank you for letting me know that I have to change my settings to Mono so that i can hear it out of two speakers. Great video i gave it a 5 star.

  • Glad I was able to help! the HV30 is a great cam! That mic is perfect for it! Enjoy!

    ;)

  • Help! I have a Kodak Zi8 and I want to use the Audio-Technica ATR3350 mike external audio. How can I make mono to stereo in Windows Movie Maker? Or do I have to buy an adaptor?

  • You can't make the mono sound become stereo however you can duplicate the track to both the left and right channels. There fore you will have audio coming from both speakers. I will look into this and get back to you, I am on travel and dont have access to Win Movie Maker right now. But you can watch my video on doing it in iMovie that might help find the option in Win MM.

    Thanks

  • @GeekwGlasseslive i have an adapter i bought with this mic and it allows stereo

  • @GeekwGlasseslive or at least sound out of both sides of speakers when i play it back

  • Sweet I'll have to look that up! Thanks for the tip! And thanks for watching!

  • Excellent work, thank you! I think that after watching your video I am buying the mic. Great job and thanks again.

  • Glad I could help....! ;)

  • Well done :) very helpful

  • Great review. Thx.

  • Thank You....hope it was helpful :)

  • Great video!

  • Thank you...hope it was helpful. !

  • Great review! This is just what I was looking for, a good inexpensive mic that I can use with my camera. I'm subscribed!

  • Glad I could help! :)
