@bassdiegofloyd ATK is indeed a type that comes close to a stingray, but the pricerange is way lower. Since OLPs aren't made anymore, this is the best low price range alternative :)

Dou you change EQ or pickup switching from slap to fingerstyle? Using nickel-roundwounds, I suppose..? Thanks for any hints!

Yeah, I just got myself an 4 string ATK as well. Covers all the right sounds, from dark standup-ish jazz to gritty funk. Very nice playing indeed....enjoy it much, thanks!

I have a MIJ version in black and i`am modding everything on it right now.

It`s a good bass alright but it lacks that punchy slap sound and it`s a bit hard to cut through the mix, plus mine had some high end hissing, not to mention the weight of that sucker.

I exchanged almost every part in the preamp with better audio components, put in a bassculture ATK PU, glued a flame top on the body/headstock,..lighter bridge and tuners and now i have to repaint it :)

Damn! Ibanez's ATK-300 cops the vintage StingRay vibe better than the present Stingray. Must be the thru-body stringing. I just ordered an older ATK from G-center-can't wait to plug that puppy in! This is the only Ibanez Bass I don't hate. I've tried lots of Ibanez basses and I don't like them, except this one, which I own.

Sometimes I miss the sound of a "Passive" Bass, this bass sounds very "Active". The pickup is nice, the attack has balls but 0.5 seconds after hitting a note you can hear the note choking. I'm gonna replace the pickup

i know the pickup on that thing is 3 coil... so is that like 3 pickups or just one?

Nope, it has a 3 position switch, down position is for slapping and that stuff, middle position emulates a MusicMan Stingray, it's good for fingers and pick, I don't use the upper position, it almost sounds like the middle position but with less balls.

I want to replace the pickup and buy a Stingray pickup

I don't know if you can get new Japanese ones. In my country one can get only Indonesian or Korean models, I've tried one and that stuff was cool and very powerful too. Also they are equipped with high quality strings!

I've got a 10 year old Japanese ATK - I've bought it last November. It's the MOST versatile bass I have ever seen. The sounds are great but the price is affordable. One of the best basses. I LOVE it more and more, day by day.

but really. try putting in a Bassculture custom pickup with alnico magnets. its blows your brains!
