About the most common is a 302. "Snug fit" you have to get a bigger radiator, a few places make motor mounts for the conversion, dual sump oil pan, then notch the head box for valve cover clearence unless you do a body lift. No factory ranger tranny is capable of holding up2 the 302's torque
O i bet same for tacomas huh. Does this effect your wheel travel at all becasue you would think it would take up alot of space where your suspension would go
I've never done a swap.. but naw it usually doesn't tweak the wheel radius unless you try and fit a small block or a big block.. then you might have some tweakin to do
i wouldnt call the Mazda 5 speeds exactly bullet proof but they can hold their own all i did was put a Zoom kevlar clutch and its held up damn good to the turbo setup i put on my 2.3L high boost we can get mid 400's on the dyno, more than most stock 302's, although i dont launch hard as hell either, once the truck is moving i give it hell though.....
@AndersonRacing44 m-22, no way dude, c-6 or turbo 400 only, if you wanna run hard in the dirt, m22 cant handle the constant loading and unloading the whoops put on them, most manuals cant, with an auto the torque converter helps dampen the shock load as the rear tires skip from whoop to whoop, if you are gonna use an m22 dont plan on running it in the southwest or mexico.
@AndersonRacing44 The other way is a sequentially shifted manual trans with a torque converter where the clutch should go. but that might get a little expensive. Just a thought.
is this automatic or manual?

when most people do the swap they set the engine back a little for weight transfer and shock clearance.

@flareck A turbo 350 tranny would work great, that or a M-22 4 speed.
