The battery is to store the energy from the panel. Running directly from solar will be too erratic as the sunlight comes and goes. With a 50 watt panel you can charge a 20 Ah battery in about 5 hours of full sun, The 20Ah battery is enough to charge 1 or 2 18 volt power tool batteries.
panel is about 250 on ebay, inverter about 75, also ebay, battery 45 on ebay, dewalt charger 25 on ebay, ryobi charger 30 from home depot. 50 watts is good, 40 or 30 might do ok. any more questions, let me know

Ir's a Vector 750 Watt inverter, Photonics 12 volt, 15 amp controller, EBC Batteries 12V 20 Amphours battery
Basically, panel goes to input of controller and battery and inverter are connected to output of controller.

Where did you get your supplies from?
I was trying to figure out the watts needed for an 18-volt, but 50 watts does it, huh?
How much did all this cost?
