  • That bass needs to eat more . . .

  • To untutored listening audience and those that just don't know a "virtuoso" genius when you hear one, Carlos Del Pino is one of the World's greatest double bassist. If you really want to get down to his craft, he's the best out there! Go buy some of his work and get the range of his playing and the fact that he can play anything! Speak to those that know based on years of playing as well as knowledge of the art. Carlos Del Pino is one of the World's Greatest double bassist!

  • its like a guitar solo...

  • meanlingless drivel. Sounds like a bee having a wank in a biscuit tin.

  • To be honest, I feel there's good and bad in this. Personally, I didn't think his playing was that bad by itself. If you can make out what he's playing, it actually has an interesting sound. That said, this would have been better as a solo performance with no accompaniment. Not only does the piano drown out the bass, but his playing simply does not go well with the piano at all.

  • very sexy, very horny, it's like a long orgasm this, hahahah, but it's no bassplaying!

  • this is fucking retarded. just because you play fast and complex doesn't mean you're good. learn some TACT for fuck sake!

  • @flyagaricleech

wow I guess just because you can say a lot vulgar words doesn't mean you know how to speak, even if you are correct.

  • What the hell is this? Let me play the bass like a guitar and say I'm Virtuoso. Besides you can't even hear him.......

  • Fast fingers indeed

  • Double bass playing is nothing without tone. I'd like to see him do this on a proper DB with real action and the physicality that goes with it. This is just masturbation pure and simple.

  • Really, going fast in no proof of being a genius or something -_-...

This wasn't good, or beautiful or anything.

I'd rather like Pink floyd, who are not good technically, but genius in composition.

  • Phark.

  • Really boring. No pathos, no thinking, no music at all.

Do less Carlos and don't go so mechanical. And don't forget to breath while you play.

You can practise this stuff when you are home, you have a good technic but you really don't know how to use it. And when you go to play music use your technic to make music, and not just tricks and effects and short fragments of plain scales. Also the timing is really uncertain. This is the opposite of "virtuoso"

    Claudio Ottaviano

  • I hardly call that jazz

  • This guy is amazing

  • Well, first off, this is not a "double bass" (DB) he's playing. It's an electric upright bass (EUB).

Second, FrancescoGuardi: It's better to keep your mouth shut and be thought an idiot, than to open it and prove it.

  • Bravo..!

  • HEY ! WHERE IS THE MUSIC?

  • maybe don't judge a player from just one clip?

(I haven't check others so I'm either in for a good or bad surprise, I suppose).

  • id like to see him play a real double bass. the one hes playing just doesnt have that "bass" sound.

  • how's that even possible??? *dies...*

  • who is the best Double Bass player in the world??? I think the best allways come from Cuba

  • I dont think its where you practice all those hours, its that you practice all those hours. Though the power of a good tumbao cant be denied.

  • He is good, no doubt about it. but anyway, this is not what I want to hear in a concert.

  • I'm sure he can play a slower bass line fella's: this sounds more like a solo to showcase his soloing skills.

I would like someone to upload a vid of him in a band setting minus the soloing.

    Peace

  • Lol maybe he's a great technician, but I don't think he really gets what the bass should do in music.

  • Okay, bass should play bummbumm bumm, women should stay in the kitchen and get babies, negroes shouldt shut up and work - easy listening, easy living, that's your style, isn't it ?

  • looks like improvisation

  • i can`t hear the bass so good

  • I agree with these guys saying it's too hard to hear the bass, but I could listen to you all day, regardless.

  • less cowbell

  • You can never have too much cowbell HM.

Do agree that the mix is way off for a solo like that.

  • The mic is too close to the congas. If this video is about hearing the bass being played, the mix is way off. Great player but a strain to hear the bass over the congero.

  • BIG DEAL PLEASE PLAY SOMETHING MUSICAL!!!Listen to Marco Panascia,Nels Pederson Ray Brown , Or Dario any body can play a bunch of notes that don't mean anything BM

  • Ok then why don't you post a video response like this. if its so easy, common ANYONE can do it...

  • whew! what to say after that performance. I want more now.

  • Thats some fancy finger work but it sounds pretty mushy and not melodically or rhythmically developed. That said it is impressive how fast his fingers move about the the notes but i personally like to hear more feeling and breathing in the music. What do you guys thinks? He is good and has talent but could you sing back anything he just played or what is it that you like about his solo?

  • Fantastic playing, true master, but it would sound better on a upright bass.

  • sick

  • hes good dude

  • ...bravo sai fare le scale!

  • edub82, go die. he has fuckin talent.

  • he aint playin nothin but a bunch of nothin

  • ditto!! Well said.

  • awesome well done... i bet u hav practiced and practiced to get it that fast, again very good...

  • If he's this fast on an upright, imagine how fast he could on an electric.

  • sheezus... that would be just insane

  • You cant compare uprigt to electric!

  • electric is wayyyy easier. frets... they leave room for error.

  • Not if you play fretless :)

  • um... on fretted you have anywhere from almost 2 inches down to half inch to get the note on fretted your aiming for a 8th inch line so if you wanna talk about room for error

  • Dude...

  • woooooooooooooow es una bestia!

  • not the electric upright....

  • I wish his tone was better, or maybe it's just the recording. There's too much bass sound, so lots of his playing is buried in the low end. That's too bad. I hope he doesn't go for that type of sound. Bass is low enough as it is without turning the bass knob up more on your amp.

  • Put...c'est quoi ce truc?On comprend rien!!

  • that's the way you play an upright bass. i've seen so called greats such as stanley clarke make terrible sounding stuff on the double bass so it's very pleasing to see someone do it right. great job carlos.

  • Stanley Clarke is a great bassist. Any real bass player knows that. Get your head out of your butt.

  • ha clarke is only second to ray brown on the upright in jazz music

and keep in mind these basses have easier with thumb position than traditional wooden uprights

still this is an impressive solo

  • He isn't doing it right he isn't even playing a real upright and there is no expression or real jazz knowledge. He is just trying to play as many notes as possible. I got bored listening to it real quick.

  • Mouais, c'est pas trop un jeu de Contrebassiste, plus de la déboulade de bassiste voulant faire son malin...

Aller, la même chose sur une vraie Contrebasse en acoustique et là on pourra juger!

    Hihi

  • To mann5175. Exactly my thoughts,Play the Upright myself.

  • its kwl but it would have been beastin on a non electric upright

  • I'm no god on the upright, but for me playing an electric upright bass seemed easier than the non electric, so I think for his style of music the electric just gives you more possibilities

  • well for one he doesn't ahve 2 reach right out 2 reach the high notes

  • Absolutely excellent playing.

  • bOALAHMOLARAMBABABABABAZAHARALA

  • amazing also to krizzle ur kinda right becuase i play electric bass as my main instrument and playd double bass in my schools orchestra and what this guy is plaiyng is amazing. im gonna save up for an EUB (electric upright bass)

  • i must say, double bass probably sucks to play as far as difficulity (meaning, it probably is a pain to play), but it has such deep deep tone, the kind of tone bass SHOULD have. Very good solo btw... God Bless

  • Talk about amazing.. I love people with the kind of dedication this dude must have had to get so good at bass.

  • as far as speed goes i think brian bromberg is faster

  • Nice solo Love the NS uprite to I wish I could afford one

  • An impressive performance .You are one of a kind!

  • Carlos is truly world class! You gotta catch this guy performing live!
