It's weird that some of the best singing is done when you are not carrying the song. This is one of her best vocal performances. Like Chak Kahn in Save It For A Rainy Day.
What a beautifully restored version!! By far my favorite John Denver Song!! Olivia Newton-John is so beautiful here & has such an angelic voice!! John could never replicate her voice on any live versions!! God, I miss JD!! Thanks for posting!! :)
I can't begin to say how many years I've remembered this performance. I couldn't believe it when I found it on the web several years ago. Thanks for this high-quality version!
Heard this song for the first time on the "Windsong" 8-track, Yes 8-track about 35 years ago....fell in Love with the song (already loved John) but never knew it was Olivia doing the back up vocals, wasn't listed on the tape. So thrilled to find it again this many years later. Thank you.
This is my favorite John Denver song / duet with Olivia beautiful even though I was a child in 1975/76 this is giving me chiils as Iam 45 yrs old now I love this & miss John Denver soo much my 16 yr old son will never know real music like those artists I grew up on.
THIS is the best duet Olivia ever recorded! her crystal voice matches perfectly with John's and I can't imagine any other female singer to get that breezy quality in her singing. I may be wrong but this song seems to be the idea for 1987's hit SHE's LIKE THE WIND by Patrick Swayne and some female singer.
Easily one of the top duet ballads of all time, so simple, smooth and safe in the hands of John & Olivia. It is difficult to watch this, absorb it's incredible beauty, and not get very, very melancholy. IMHO, a CLASSIC ...
I'm a huge Livvy fan and have enjoyed her many, mant duets over the years but none more so than this (almost duet) it's a great shame the didn'y get to do more stuff together rip john and long live O
I was just a kid when this song came out but after a few years... and GREASE, Xanadu, etc I remember wondering if she was doing backgrounds on this... they should have put out a duet album! Their voices just blended SO well.
Outstanding song writing and musicianship have no place in todays music - thus the reason most of the brain dead trolls of the present have no clue of the genius that is JD!! Guy was awesome and was the only "non rocker" to take on the PRMC! Made the most profound impact and got the least of the credit!! JD rules!!

@Guilddude2 some good music is still coming out. it just never hits the main stream. it is really sad the horrible "musicians" who have no musical talent and don't even write their own music that end up being popular these days
@Guilddude2 YOU ARE SO RIGHT I COULDN'T SAY IT ANY BETTER THEN THAT THANK YOU FOR YOUR WORDS I WISH THERE WERE MORE OF US OUT HERE THAT WOULD STAND UP AND SAY WHAT YOU HAVE HAD SAID HERE! THANK YOU!
@Guilddude2 My opinion is that during earlier years, say 1950s-70s, The crappy music never made it because there are only a few people in the market who listens to musical crap. Fast forward it to 2010, those same few people who listens to crap have already multiplied to millions and can now sustain a music industry of crappy music. Its just sad..I want ABBA back..
@Guilddude2 really true, music can make your soul feel good but can music today do it, I was born in 1976 but enjoy the 60,70,80 music better than what's up now,
many young people like it but don't wanna admit it because it makes them not cool, I have seen they secretly enjoy it by the tapping of their foot
@Guilddude2 I apologize, it is partly my fault. I need to start using my guitar and vocal skills to write some good songs! A 34 year old who likes John Denver! :)
Folks, if you haven't seen this video* on YouTube, you will really enjoy it, and it showcases John Denver's voice in three-part harmony, which is almost unknown in the anti-Occidental, postmodernist hip-hop and rap idioms that have ruined popular music in the USA since about 1990. (And, yes, there has been and is a political motivation behind this. It is part of the long-term campaign to break down traditional culture in America.) *See: "The Chad Mitchell Trio & John Denver - For Baby"
@bboucharde - I agree. MOST - not all - of today's pop music is horrible.
Today's rap and hip-hop is complete garbage and has helped ruin a generation.
There was time when black music was fantastic - The Four Tops, The Supremes, Martha and the Vandelas, The Drifters, Staple Singers, Edwin Hawkins Singers and so many more. That was talent.
@bctvguy Thanks for your comment. Yes, I agree. I have a large collection of Motown & Soul 12" LP's (Temptations, Marvin Gaye, Supremes, Gladys Knight, Percy Sledge, James Brown, Isley Bros., Little Anthony, Barry White, etc.) In fact, I even have Rick James, who marked the end of listenable Black pop music for me, in the 1980's---virtually all downhill from that peak. I cried when we lost Barry White, not long ago---What a voice, what emotion!---pure class, and not part of the Hip Hop scene.
@bctvguy u are half wrong, todays hip hop and rap is garabage so is all the pop music but there was good hip hop. NWA, Run DMC, tupac, biggie etc...i see its not your taste but there was good hip hop and rap before 2000
@bctvguy- I agree with with what bboucharde. The best 'black' (african american/R&B/Soul) came out of the Temps, the Tops, Jimmy Ruffin, Marvin Gaye/Kim Weston, et al.
Thank you so very much for your hard work restoring this for us fans. A beautiful song, their voices joined together just so wonderfully for us to enjoy. thank you John Denver for writing a beauty of a song!
Greatly appreciate this - I'm launching working on having a Concert Tribute to John with celebrity Artists and have Olivia join for a remake of this to honor John and very much his Activist work. My company is co-launching 5 new revolutionary building and energy technologies which will completely eliminate the need for fossil fuel engines and coal burning power plants. Maybe I can hire you if we need help with other digital remasters - I'm just starting talks with Brian over at Red Light Thanks
This has some nostalgic value. Neither of these two could really "sing". In another time and place, neither of these people would have had a career in music. Denver's voice and music does not hold up to time. In fact, among serious musicians...his name has become synonymous with BAD music. As for Olivia...well...she's more famous for having had cancer and surviving than for her "music".
@thegrinchl7 - I've read hundreds of comments on YT about music and I have to tell you that yours is the lamest, most idiotic one; and that says a lot. You may not think either one is a good singer but to say neither can sing is truly insane. I've never heard anyone say JD is synonymous with bad music. Pathetic critique...
@thegrinchl7 My mum was an opera singer who TAUGHT singing. She said JD had such a good natural voice & innate musical intelligence he could have sung classics-e.g German Leider as he had a lyric tenor & excellent falsetto.Yes,JD's untrained voice had faults, but by the 80s he had developed his voice SO much fans & critics commented on it.It became lower, richer, lost some of the excess vibrato and gained timber & warmth.70s & 80 era JD is like nite & day.He had GREAT pipes once he worked on 'em
@thegrinchl7 r u FUCKIN KIDDING ME? No musical value? I guess everyone is entitled to their opinion but sometimes you have to wonder WTF? Good luck with life brutha!
@thegrinchl7 You have a right to your opinions, but you are dead wrong. I saw Denver perform in Santa Barbara in 1976, and he was superb. He originally sang in the Chad Mitchell Trio, & he had perfect pitch. His voice was ideal for the folk & folk-rock genre. Olivia, too, is adored by millions around the world, and her voice is ideal for the genre that she specializes in. Why would you even view this video if you don't like these two great vocalists? Go listen to some hip-hop, at 110 decibels.
This has to be one of the most beautifulest duet's i have ever heard. These two's voices made magic together. What a beautiful song:):):):):) i always liked this one from the first time i ever heard it. God bless you Liv & R.I.P John.
What a great song and video...I remember watching this during Christmas time of 1976....I was 12 years old...Had a crush on Olivia Newton John...Wow, 34 years later I still think she is beautiful....Truely miss John Denver and his music and dedication to make our earth a better place to live in...
BCTVGUY, thanks for sharing your restored video with us, I so heart ♥ this. Like both of these artists; sometimes one wants to hear such an easy listening 70's soothing song, luv it!
She has such a wonderful voice. You can't find many like her today. John my man, I miss you terribly. I remember seeing him do Rocky Mountain High on Good Morning America back in the mid 70's. I don't know why that particular memory stuck with me, but he was so good. The world would have missed so much without him.
i remember this special i watched every special he did and when Olivia Newton John joined him on that album and then the show I was so excited because at that time they were both my fave entertainers I had collected almost all of their albums at that time. God that was forever ago, great memories thank you for posting
Like many of the others who posted, I remember watching this when on TV as if it were yesterday. In fact, it was the first time I had ever seen, much less heard of ONJ. I was absolutely star-struck and thus began my (three decades and beyond) admiration, and earlier on- obsession, with Livvy. Whist most everyone I knew gravitated towards Cher, Madonna, Whitney, Mariah, Janet...Britney, Christina, etc., I remained 'hopelessly devoted' to this woman.
bctvguy - thanks for providing us a *clear* look at two of the most beautiful, imperfect, clarivoyent artists of the 70s. It doesn't get any better than this...
Such a great loss to this world.Considering whats happening to the environment today. Wish he were here to see whats happening in the gulf today.I wonder what he would think.
What a fantastic song from my all time favorite singer song writer!! Olivia is beautiful and there is moment in this song where you can see John just soakin in Olivias lovely voice! He is so badly missed and she is still so vastly talented than most any other singer these days - just IMHO!
Awesome duet. I was just a little kid then but I fell in love with John's music as a high schooler years later. Made me think of deeper things so I'm grateful. I know its sort of out of place to say, while listening to this wonderful 70's music and all, but he's HOT in this video. Sorry :)
damn I wish I could have a chance with Olivia but im only 25 lol. shes the most beautiful women, that voice gives me goosebumps everytime. she makes me freeze everytime she looks into the camera with those GORGEOUS eyes!
omg..i have always loved this song! something made me think of it just a few minutes ago, and i made sure to remember to add it to my playlist when i got upstairs to my computer.
I also am very saddened that john left this earth at far too young an age. some of his songs made me cry *before* he died. now they're especially poignant. RIP, john. you truly were a song's best friend.

That's reasonably gorgeous. And great job restoring it, too. If only you could get hold of the master tape of the live copy of Dan Fogelberg's "Phoenix" that's up elsewhere on YouTube. This was a wonderful 70s memory, thanks for posting.
Beautiful... I truely wish everyone was able to listen to more music such as this today. And Olivia- Newton John was hands down the most attractive women on the planet when this song was recorded IMOP.......
can you tell us where you got this video. I remember very well this Christmas Special in 1975 or 76 I wish had this show recorded. But there where no VCR back then. I wonder how did you get this video?
Olivia's natural straight white teeth in the 70's. Unheard of.

The real culprits of this crap they call music, are the music labels.
mandrago 1 year ago
@Guilddude2 My opinion is that during earlier years, say 1950s-70s, The crappy music never made it because there are only a few people in the market who listens to musical crap. Fast forward it to 2010, those same few people who listens to crap have already multiplied to millions and can now sustain a music industry of crappy music. Its just sad..I want ABBA back..
blastmetamorph 11 months ago
@Guilddude2 really true, music can make your soul feel good but can music today do it, I was born in 1976 but enjoy the 60,70,80 music better than what's up now,
many young people like it but don't wanna admit it because it makes them not cool, I have seen they secretly enjoy it by the tapping of their foot
perfect1976j 10 months ago

That was talent.
bctvguy 1 year ago 15
@bctvguy Thanks for your comment. Yes, I agree. I have a large collection of Motown & Soul 12" LP's (Temptations, Marvin Gaye, Supremes, Gladys Knight, Percy Sledge, James Brown, Isley Bros., Little Anthony, Barry White, etc.) In fact, I even have Rick James, who marked the end of listenable Black pop music for me, in the 1980's---virtually all downhill from that peak. I cried when we lost Barry White, not long ago---What a voice, what emotion!---pure class, and not part of the Hip Hop scene.
bboucharde 1 year ago
@bctvguy u are half wrong, todays hip hop and rap is garabage so is all the pop music but there was good hip hop. NWA, Run DMC, tupac, biggie etc...i see its not your taste but there was good hip hop and rap before 2000
forsberg2110 1 year ago
@bctvguy- I agree with with what bboucharde. The best 'black' (african american/R&B/Soul) came out of the Temps, the Tops, Jimmy Ruffin, Marvin Gaye/Kim Weston, et al.

@bboucharde actually the 3part harm is on Olivia's vox at the end; on John's is just dubs. But this song is AWESOME. =) Good call there bboucharde!

@D7J7W7 You nailed it! Great comment.

@thegrinchl7 - This joker thinks he’s BORAT. His profile reads: “Please to meat you! I am from the Moscow...”
First off, what great pop music ever came from Russia?
Second, he already disliked JD & ONJ, so why was he even watching this video? What a doofus!
For nearly 40 years now, John Denver and Olivia Newton John's music has been loved over much of the world - including Russia.
bctvguy 1 year ago 19
@thegrinchl7 My mum was an opera singer who TAUGHT singing. She said JD had such a good natural voice & innate musical intelligence he could have sung classics-e.g German Leider as he had a lyric tenor & excellent falsetto.Yes,JD's untrained voice had faults, but by the 80s he had developed his voice SO much fans & critics commented on it.It became lower, richer, lost some of the excess vibrato and gained timber & warmth.70s & 80 era JD is like nite & day.He had GREAT pipes once he worked on 'em

She has such a wonderful voice. You can't find many like her today. John my man, I miss you terribly. I remember seeing him do Rocky Mountain High on Good Morning America back in the mid 70's.

I also am very saddened that john left this earth at far too young an age. some of his songs made me cry *before* he died. now they're especially poignant. RIP, john. you truly were a song's best friend.
