  • I watched this with my m50's :D

  • Just ordered these in the limited edition silver. Im kinda bummed because im broke now haha waiting till wednesday!!

  • Hey Quinn just asking which headphones are better overall the audio technica ath m50s or the audio technica ath pro700 mk2

  • would you recommend these or the shire srh 840's? thanks :D

  • Comment removed

  • I completely agree. I've had these for a few months and I'm still amazed by them. Made a buddy of mine who has the 400 dollar beats jealous.

  • why are the prices for amazon in Canada so damn high? I was thinking about sennheiser hd 598 they were $249.99 on amazon(dot) com but on amazon(dot) ca they were $349.99 and audio technica ath m50s were like $200 but US prices were $130-$160 and they dont sell these at best buy, future shop, etc only warehouses or special stores

  • Well, what do people think, Sennheiser HD280 or AudioTechnica ATH-M50?

  • I love these headphones but if your listening to dubstep I would like it if there were more bass.

Theyre amazing for everything else :)

  • I need a lot of help. I bought these off amazon like two weeks ago. I read a ton of rave reviews, so I was pumped the day they came in. Right off the bat I was very dissapointed with the sound. Mids were a little bit recessed, the bass was weak, and the highs weren't very clear. But I was prepared for that since a couple of review recommended at least 100 hours of burn in. So I played a pink noise through it for 4 days straight. The next day I don't even notice a single difference in sound.

  • @Jellyboi911 This is my last comment continued. But some people have been saying that burn in is just your brain adjusting to the sound quality of the headphones. So I've been using them sine then but still no difference in sound. Are these fake or something? I played 160 dollars for these and I'm getting a better sound out of my Koss Pro DJ100. Help. please.

  • @Jellyboi911 there really is a membrane in the headphone that loosens up.headphones over 100 dollars need an amp (if you are using a very weak song player like an ipod)

  • @Jellyboi911Do you have a DAC or soundcard and a headphone amp? What kind of music files do you use? You can't expect anything more than bad sound regardless of headphones if you use compressed mp3's and ipod or something similar with headphones. Also don't fall for burn-in too much, its gets very over-exaggerated by many people, changes to the sound are really minimal and if you don't like the sound of headphones out of the box, you wont like them after a hundred years of burn in.

  • @Jellyboi911 Hey I have a couple of mods that will make the M50s sound light years better than the Koss DJ100. Take the foam off the earpad and remove the foam behind the driver. I did this, and sounded so much better. If you want, you can PM me for more details :)

  • Any reviews coming up on Sennheiser HD380 Pros?

  • @Therium1 I can tell you that HD380 are better than M50's in almost every way. More comfortable, better sound isolation, nicer bass, more controlled and tighter but extends deeper, more forward mids and highs are smoother. They seem more neutral overall. They also have a bigger sound stage than M50's.

  • Watching this on my M50s ;D

  • I found them for $50 at amazon. Are they fake? There is also for $150 at amazon.

  • @Kypaav

I checked too. The Audio-Technica ATH-M50 are $150 and the Audio-Technica ATH-M30 are $50. So no they are not fake just different model. The specs are similar enough, it's just the design style is a bit different. I'd go for the Audio-Technica ATH-M30 and save money without compromising quality.

  • @Kypaav yup its fake for 50 dollars.

  • my birthday's coming up in four weeks and i'm thinking about getting these. i'm worried that it may not be pretty compatible with the music i listen to. i listen to metal, dubstep, rap, rock, reggae, and things around the lines of guitars and electronic stuff. do you think these will be good for all those? and if not could you recommend me another pair of headphones you think would be suitable? please respond, I need advice :-/

  • When you say "flimsy" I assume you mean that it flops around easily. Still feels sturdy though, right?

Definitely gonna get a pair of these headphones.

  • the ugliest headphones i haver seen

  • @sXeHLR I've seen wayy worse.

  • @sXeHLR These look awesome in person! It is not as dark as it looks like in the video.

  • I like how you said computer, then mac, like their 2 different things. XD

  • Also- Heavy bass on the M50's? I believe you are just reading out-dated reviews on head-fi, and post them on this video while pretending that you came up with these by yourself,

    STUDIO = Low Bass.

  • I think you should calm down. While the M50'S are good, ""perfect mids" are far from reasonable in the M50's - the biggest flaw in these.

  • @RamenBowlKing that's the blue boxed ones with the mid problems. The white boxed ones, like the ones I own, have FANTASTIC mids :D

  • @GadgetOverview Although I highly doubt you are an actual audiophile ( not self-proclaimed ) I must appreciate your opinion. However, the M50 and the M50 White-Box are the EXACT same thing. Audio Technica would rename the M50 if they are different ( E.G M50 Mk2. ) they wouldn't refine the sound sig and not tell anyone. Unfortunately, what you are experiencing is a placebo. ( Please don't take this offensive ) Do you even know what mids are and how quality mids sound like?

  • @RamenBowlKing mids are the instruments, vocals and the drums I think. The M50s have very smooth, rich mids in my opinion. The M50s for sure don't have mid recession, (which means the mids are lower volume compared to the highs and lows.) And I said the white box have better mids than the blue box because when I was searching around, they say the mids are much better on the white box than the blue box. head-fi.org/t/595778/new-ath-m50-vs-old-ath-m50#post_8143579

  • @GadgetOverview

hmm.. I must apologize then. I was acting like a d-bag. Please forgive.

  • @RamenBowlKing no problem bro :D And no you weren't acting like a d-bag, you were stating facts. Don't worry about it. :)

  • are these good for gaming over ath-ad700s? iver heard those have no bass but good mid ive heard these are good all around

  • its an 11 foot cable.

  • @drgnfrc13 like which ones

  • @ThatSnazzyiPhoneGuy would the fanny wangs 3001 be a better deal compared to the audio technica ath-m50 if i could get them as the same price as the ath-m50s?

  • Saying that these are the best on the market for the price makes you sound like a serious newb. Sure, there are some people who might prefer these to anything else in the price range, but overall, there are many headphones out there these days that outperform the M50's at around the same price. I'm not saying they're bad or anything (that would just be stupid), but they definitely aren't "the best."

  • @drgnfrc13 If you truly believe there is a better pair for around $150, I'd be inclined to ask you which headphones you would deem better. What fucking headphones are you talking about? The ATH-M50's are amazing.

  • @iStealBeatz Grado SR-125, Denon D1100, Shure SRH-840, Sennheiser HD-558, Ultrasone HFI 780, and even Koss PRO DJ100 (with the right amp) are all arguably better than the M50's and are similarly priced.

  • @drgnfrc13 I tried ALL of them, and in my opinion, the M50s (the white boxed ones) sound the best. That's why I bought one.

  • @GadgetOverview Which is why I said "Sure, there are some people who might prefer these to anything else in the price range..." Sound is subjective, to an extent, so there will always be situations in which one person thinks headphone A is significant;y better than headphone B, while another person thinks that headphone A is far inferior to B. But the headphones I listed are each better than the M50's in various ways, making them more ideal for many people, just depending on their preferences.

  • @GadgetOverview In other words, I am just clearing up the gross generalization made by ThatSnazzyiPhoneGuy.

  • @drgnfrc13 why is it gross? I like all the headphones you mentioned and all of them sound fantastic, but in my opinion, the M50s just sound more musical and not analytical like the others you mentioned.

  • @GadgetOverview As I have already said, it is a gross generalization because it does not apply to many (maybe even MOST) headphone users. The only people to whom I would specifically recommend the M50's would be those who want decent soundstaging without the leakage of open phones, and very forward mids and emphesized bass. There are many people would prefer more bass/better controlled bass (D1100, HFI778), more clarity & detail (HD558, SRH840, DJ100), (continued)

  • @GadgetOverview better soundstaging (SR125), better highs (SR125, HD558, SRH840), less bulky build (SR125, D1100, DJ100), etc. (and I just noticed that I left out the HD558 after "better soundstaging"). Everyone has different preferences, so it is just ignorant to claim that one is the best when there are clearly others that are much better in certain areas.

  • @drgnfrc13 actually, the SR125, HD558 and SRH840s have better mids, not better highs :)

  • @GadgetOverview Maybe in your opinion, but certainly not mine. The M50's highs might be a bit more foreward, but as for definition and clarity, they fall a bit behind all three of these models (especially the Grado's).

  • @drgnfrc13 My M50s have amazing highs and amazing mids. The highs have a lot of definition and clarity.

  • @GadgetOverview That isn't what I heard in mine. They weren't bad, but definitely not as detailed.

  • @drgnfrc13 I have the white boxed M50s. The white box version is more detailed than the blue boxed version.

  • @GadgetOverview I'm not sure which one I had, but everything I've read on them has suggested that the differences between them are pretty negligible...

  • @drgnfrc13 when did you buy your M50s?

  • @GadgetOverview Around last September, I think. I only kept them for a couple months.

  • @drgnfrc13 ok :)

  • @GadgetOverview And btw, the Denon's, Ultrasones, and Koss are definitely not what I would consider analytical, in relative terms, at least...

  • @ThatSnazzyiPhoneGuy would you say these are better than the dr dre beats ?

I am between these and the beats, don't know which one to pick.

  • @SuperLolz7 WAY better than beats

  • @SuperLolz7 Hell yes! Beats are terrible for the price they demand. Even if the Beats Pro was more like $70, I would still say the M50 is a better value. Although, you might want to explore your options before settling on the M50's, because while they're great headphones, there still might be some better options for your particular musical taste.

  • I did what you told me I sold my beats pro and got the ath m50 thank you;)

  • will this work with iphone outer-box case?

  • what would you choose between the ATH-M50s and the ATH-PRO700mk2 ? trying to decide but can't

  • Would you recommend these or the Grado sr80i/Grado sr125i?

  • @xXDP5150Xx Depends on your listening style. If you listen to pretty much only rock, absolutely the Grados (although keep in mind that the Grados are open back which means they'll suck outside of home listening. They leak like crazy and everyone will hear you. It sounds like a speaker more than a headphone). If you're into pop, jazz, classical, hip-hop, electronica, etc., pick up these or the Shure SRH840.

  • @ThatSnazzyiPhoneGuy What if it's more of a mixture? Rock, Jazz, Electronic and some Blues.

  • @ThatSnazzyiPhoneGuy hey snazzy would u recommend these or the shire srh840's? thanks :D

  • to Amazon........0.o

  • 6 feet?!?!?!

  • Beats are way too overpriced.

  • Tell me if the beats mixr are better??

  • How is the bass

  • these or the fanny wang 2001s?

  • hey Quin do they make fakes of these?

  • @Ipodfanz97 I believe someone did, if I remember right, it doesn't have the brushed metal ring :P

  • do u know anything about the ath-ws55rd solid bass.....if soo do u know if it has good bass

  • @dubsteppin45 supposedly they are made for bass, and sound good.

  • @dubsteppin45 thats a joke right?

  • Question: these or Ultrasone 580?

  • around or on ear? and if around ear which would you choose: Bose AE2i or these.

    thanks

  • @boiiazz I just got these m50 and I'm lovin them so far.

  • @thatsnazzyiphoneguy what amp do you recommend using with the ath m50 and ipod?

  • @xSwiftCreedx amp for ipod? lolwut? Not recommended but here are some suggestions: FiiO E7 and FiiO E11

  • i ordered some over the weekend and cant wait till friday to use them they look really awesome too.

  • @shipsimulatorfreak Trust me, these things are awesome.

  • @shipsimulatorfreak ive had ath m50's for about 2 months and they sound AMAZING. you made a good purchase (:

  • @xSwiftCreedx i got them today and they are so good for the price

  • hey plz answer :) how do these compare to the pro700 mk2?

  • @GadgetOverview The Pro700's definitely have a more punchy low end, but otherwise, there's not much of a difference. A lot of people (like me) were disappointed by the 700's, as they just sounded "okay". I'd honestly get the M50's over the 700's, as the highs are a tad better and they're noticeably cheaper. But the 700's do look (physically) really good.

  • @spazman13579 thanks for your reply

  • great review.

cant decide between these and the beyerdynamic 770. (theyre within $50 or so of each other)

according to your review they both sound similar/identical (ie; superb) but the 770 have a bigger soundstage?

    which should i get?

  • @petp It would really depend on what you're using them for. The M50's are defiantly more flat (eq) but are easier for travel. The 770's are a bit more "fun" to listen to but aren't practical for portable use. The 770's do have a better soundstage tho. For anything other than just sitting at home listening to music, I'd get the M50's. They look better too.

  • these or v-moda crossfade LP??

    i cant decide

  • @ZzLee2kaii10zZ these will blow the Vmodas out of the water. I know because I own both. :)

  • How many hours of burn in do you think these need? I just ordered them off of amazon and im so excited to get these :)

  • How are these for recording vocals and rap

  • grado SR125i , koss dj100, shure srh840, audio technica ad700, sennheiser hd 280, 555 are alternatives to consider for those wanting good headphones under 150. I can't wait for my m50s, which will replace my 6 year old hd 280s.

  • are these entirely made out of plastic?

  • why is there only 15k views on this but 870k on the beats studio ಠ_ಠ

  • @SkitHertz because dumb people just go for the headphones that have "dre beats" on them. Id rather wear 2 tuna cans and a banana than dre beats if the banana headphones has better quality. lol. its all about quality brother.

  • @ilikegirlsalot69 rofl that mental image

  • What does he mean by "soundstage?"

  • @MattProductionsInc Soundstage refers to how big and wide the sound appears to be. Sort of like....surround sound. Good soundstage in headphones makes it feel like the sound is coming from somewhere in front of you, not from 1 inch away from your ear.

  • @derbigpr500 THAT'S what that is... Thanks.

  • These are ones of those headphones that have a very compact and "well made" feel about them. They do everything very well and you feel like you got what you paid for. I like em. I had many headphones more expensive than them, even now I have headphones that cost 3-4 times as much, but M50's are still the headphones that I use most.

  • Can u review the beats tours in ear headphones?

  • @Unidentifiedcarrots Review: They suck. Don't buy them. Get the RHA MA-350.

  • do they leak? i didn't hear you mention that

  • Would you suggest i can use it outside or is it only used of inside?

  • what would be a good upgrade from these at the $400 price range?

  • @1lastsoldier Probably Denon D2000. Or D5000 if you can get them for 400-500$.

  • @1lastsoldier But the thing is, what is "good upgrade" for you? You have to know that difference between $200 headphones and $400 ones is much smaller than difference between $100 ones and $200 dollar ones. You go higher up in price, differences in sound quality get lower. I have today HD650 which cost $600 and they're powered by $500 amplifier, and the sound quality is probably 20% better than M50's, while the price is more than 300% higher.

  • @derbigpr500 I'm looking into an open set. I was thinking of the HD650's until their price went up on amazon.

  • @1lastsoldier I have HD650's and they're amazing, however, they're not for everyone. They're very sort of boring headphones, they never make you wanna dance or make you do an air guitar. :P They're very smooth, very laid back and warm. They're great for when you just wanna relax and listen to some jazz or rock, but if you want headphones to excite you, look elsewhere. Also, they need a proper amplifier, otherwise they sound bad. IMHO M50's are much more fun to listen to.

  • @derbigpr500 I moved from the ATH-M50 to a Grado RS2i, and after getting to know their characteristics intimately, it's night and day, it's well over a 500% difference to me. Your ability to hear the smaller differences and appreciate them comes from training your brain to hear in patterns less, to hear what's really there, much like in art you need to train your brain to not see symbols. (like learning to draw what you're seeing, not what your predisposed notion of what a tree, or a human is)

  • @I514 I know, it was the same way for me when I got HD650's. At first they weren't very impressive, but the more I listened to them, more I liked their sound and I could appreciate the quality.

  • @I514 that is why you should listen to any headphone for 300+ hours before deciding whether you like it, because you ears and brain will adjust to any headphone you are listening to. And by the way, you are officially an audiophile.

  • @energeez That's exactly what I believe burn in is, it's not the physical components shifting, it's your brain getting used to the characteristics of the new equipment. And lol, I didn't know you needed a pass to join that club. :P I assumed when I started complaining about 128 MP3s, I had crossed over, and my wallet would never be the same again.

  • @I514 yea i don't know if burn in is real or not, i need to personally a/b it. Im at a point where i can re-adjust my ears to a cheaper headphone and i will start to like it better. lol

  • @I514 I think I should add to this statement, this isn't an endorsement for the RS2i, most head-fiers think they're overpriced and lack resolving capability. I like their sound signature, but I can't comment on the resolution, per me having no basis of comparison. They're dry, (they lack bass quantity and deep extension) with emphatic treble, great for jazz, rock and acoustic genres. However, always allow your ears to be the judge for what you like and dislike.

  • @I514 a lot of people hate ultrasones, and i own 2 pairs. I haven't heard any grado.

  • @energeez Lest we forget the Edition 10s. At least when audiophiles do it Beats style, we do it with class. Though I do get the feeling from Head-Fi that Ultrasone, and to a certain extent, Grado Labs, are considered the hipster brands of audiophilia.

  • @I514 Ultrasone as a hipster brand? That's new. I've heard that about grado before, hipsters embracing the retro look of grados.

I do say the ultrasones look slick, and certainly more so than most consumer fodder.

  • @aeriescannonfodder i don't think he is specifically talking about looks.

  • Comment removed

  • @I514 Beats, Grado, and Ultrasones don't have flat frequency responses that might be something to do with it.

  • Hi, i know for some reason iOS devices tend to boost sound a little, I'm really at the point of buying these OR the sennheisers HD 518. I listen mostly to House/Club/Dance and I like mixing lows with highs. I'm also going to be playing em off a Samsung Galaxy S2. Which one would you recommend? Mostly for outdoor use.

  • @Aspect2010 I also have the option to get get Beats Studio for 210 instead of 350 (although I really dislike them lol).

  • @Aspect2010

The Sennheisers would get you better sound quality, but...

-They have higher impedance, hence they're more difficult to drive (which is bad if you're just using a phone)

-They're open, so everyone around you will hear your music (the M50s are closed)

-The bass probably won't be as strong, which you want for House/Club/Dance (the M50s are renowned for their bass)

-While the build quality is good, it's not going to be as sturdy and durable as the M50s

  • @Simoneister Actually HD518 wont give better sound quality, they're much cheaper headphones than M50's. HD598's would give equal sound quality to M50's.

  • @derbigpr500

Price is in no way a good indicator of quality. Most reviews of the 518s are extremely favourable. Also, open headphones are almost always better quality because there isn't any movement restriction due to air pressure inside the headphone (hence "open"). They also have a higher impedance, which you generally find in better headphones. The price range is about the same; M50s are about $160 whereas the HD518s are $130. HD595s are ridiculously more expensive, about $350 or so.

  • @Simoneister I have M5 and HD558, and M50 are actually better in every way except soundstage. So, considering the fact that HD518's are worse than 558's, i can assume that M50 are better than 518's. HD595 are not so expensive, they aren't even produced anymore, you can get them for 100 dollars on ebay. New HD598's are about 250$ and they sound slightly better than M50's.

  • @Simoneister I bought the M50s and I knew the 518 gave worst sound quality duh. Bass is not strong tho (im comparing them to my Siberia V2) nor they are as comfortable as the siberias. Also very low volume as I expected... Meh I'm not that impressed to be honest, wasn't worth 210$.

  • @Aspect2010 have you burned them in. After 50 hours of burn in, they will sound much better than the hd 518, even the hd558, and will probably be as good as the hd595 :D

  • @ThatSnazzyiPhoneGuy do you know how they compare to the 550$ ultrasone pro 900?

  • How do these compare to the Audio Technica ATH-Pro700mk2 headphones? I'm going to be listening to these through an iPod, and I mostly listen to Metal, Hard Rock, and Classical Rock.

  • 0:20 so half of $200 is $150? great math :P

  • @josiahms97 HAD not half u smart

  • @josiahms97 he said had

  • mine crackle on floor tom hits and quick decrescendos, its so annoying it just slight enough to notice, i turned em in to get repaired and the said they were fine so pissed.... does this happen to you?

  • Hey, I don't know what to chose between the Denon AH-NC800 and the ATH-M50S, any idea please..? I make recordings, I sing and I also listen music all the time with my iTouch, so, dunno what to do...

  • @ThatSnazzyiPhoneGuy Thank you, any comparison from these and the Sony mdr v6? Much appreciated.

  • So you would deffinately reccommend these over the v moda m80/lp/lp2? i really wanted those but you say these sound so good how could you pass that up? and are these easily driven by an ipod? Thank you.

  • @NCorrigan2014 These are much better, and yes, they are easily driven by an iPod.

  • @ThatSnazzyiPhoneGuy

.... Hm.. Though I do have to agree the LP2/LP is mediocre compared to the ATH-M50's. I still believe the M80's are actually quite good for the price. They are direct competitors with the HD25 and the DT1350 and should easily top the M50's.

It just seems that the M80's have a bit more of a slightly warmer and laid back sound that generally sounds as good and/or better then the M50's.. the M50's are definently not "much" better.

Have you ever actually listened by the M80's?

  • @ThatSnazzyiPhoneGuy do you have the white boxed M50s or the blue boxed M50s?

  • WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THIS AND THE ATH-M50s !?!?!?!?!?!

  • @pussyass300 The M50s have a straight cable, while the M50 have a coiled cable.

  • @pussyass300 S = Straight cable. The problem is that the straight cable is 10 feet long, and the coiled cable (although capable of stretching up to 10 feet) is only about 3. As such, it's a lot more practical.

  • @pussyass300 The "s" of "M50s" means "straight".

  • the audio on this is weierd

  • how come the audio is so crackling in this video?

  • @beholderlt crappy mic probably

  • @beholderlt Final Cut Pro X didn't render the video properly. Sorry.

  • @ThatSnazzyiPhoneGuy Well probably most people don't notice this on their beats or skullcandys, but I do on my senn hd25. Any chance of you reviewing them soon?

  • Is the wire removable?

  • Nice review. I was between these and the Ultrasone Hfi-780s. I got the 780s and they sound amazing!!

  • im hovering between the Beyerdyanamics DT-770 and the the Audio technica ATH-M50. hard choice.

  • I have these too and they are amazing indeed. If you want to go against beats for being a bass head and head on over for a Audio-Technica ATH-PRO700MK2. =D

  • Ok well if you're going to be listening to music with an ipod in ur pocket, should you get the coiled or straight cable? Does the coiled cable look kinda clunky?

  • Are these good for just straight out listening to music or are they more for recording? Or would something like beats be better?

  • @ishthefish519 They are the best headphones for listening under $200 PERIOD! I have a pair and they sound better than the beatspro and way better than studio, DON'T GET BEATS they are a ripoff. The audio technica athm50 sound amazing in EVERY genre and have a BETTER bass than beats because it doesnt make the rest of the track sound bad and is the clearest bass i ever heard

  • @CheezeMaster812 but do these bring out the imperfections of the recording? does it make the recording sound bad?

  • @ishthefish519 yes these are very flat in a good way, and you will hear things you won't even hear in other headphones so yes

  • @CheezeMaster812 So if you want to listen to music and they're going to make it sound bad then why are they good for listening to music?

  • @ishthefish519 i dont know what your asking now... I said if you are recording you can tell flaws if something minor went wrong, if you are listening to music like i do, they are amazing and are better than any other headphones under 200-250$

  • @CheezeMaster812 I'm not going to be doing any recoding at all. These reveal flaws in recordings, so will they reveal flaws in the recording of songs when I'm listening through them on my iPod? And alright thanks a lot for your input. So these aren't at all comparable to beats solo hd?
