In response to the idea that Naruto will have to "grow-up" and give up on Sasuke...I just don't think it fits Naruto's character or the story, for several reasons:
1. Naruto is supposed to be a "revolutionary" and change these kinds of standards of the ninja world.
2. Not breaking his word is a defining characteristic that I think will be followed through.
3. Naruto ALWAYS saves wayward people and changes them for the better. It's his "special quality." Ex: Haku, Neji, Gaara, Chiyo, Sai...
I like the theory of Itachi's gift being the power to control Kyuubi, but I do have one niggling doubt. Itachi seems to see his gift as something that should be used as a last-ditch-effort only. Since I would think the power to keep Kyuubi in line would be a good thing for all involved parties, this seems like a strange attitude to have. It does suggest the possibility that the "gift" could kill Sasuke - something Itachi would worry about. (Still rooting for "Kyuubi-control, though!)

Kishimoto has set up Naruto to become the most powerful character, Naruto has developed his own S-level jutsu, has discovered the most effective training method ever,and on top of that the Toad Key Scroll containing the other half of the Kyubi's chakra and maybe even a new jutsu has been sent to him, and Itachi transferring his power to Naruto which could enable him to use the Sharingan allowing him to prevent Sauske or Madara from blocking the Kyubi's cahkra or even tame it for himself!

My theory: the power that Itachi gave naruto isn't really a "power". I'll bet that Itachi used his Sharingan to subdue Kyuubi, to the point where Naruto can control it at will. This would allow him to reach higher than Four Tails without hurting others!
If that doesn't work, absorbing the Kyuubi's Yin chakra (the "good side", the current chakra is Yang, which is basically "evil" chakra) should balance it out and allow UNSURPASSED PWNZAGE. I can't wait. That frog'l show up any chapter now!

Sasuke has his own Mangekyo (and its unique powers), and then Itachi's Mangekyo powers as well (or at least he has Amaterasu. No guarentee on Tsukoyomi or Susano'o.)

I never liked him to begin with, although i began to like the guy after i thought him and naruto would be good friends after the chuunin exams, but now i know he has past the point of no return after he tried killing Naruto again. Itachi saved Sasuke's life because he loved Sasuke. I don't think he wanted to impose his own beliefs on Sasuke. Part of protecting someone is protecting their own hopes and dreams as was pointed out earlier in the series.
Itachi was protecting Sasuke so he could find happiness in his own way. He may not have wanted this particular action, but he was glad to die for Sasuke so Sasuke could decide for himself how to live his life.

Naruto isn't the focal point right now because without the development and understanding of Sasuke's character, Naruto's actions in relation to him wont mean anything to us. We have to understand Sasuke to for Naruto's actions later to have the intended imapct on us as readers.
I somewhat agree, but I understand what Kish is doing. With the focus not being totally on Naruto you can grow an understanding and can be drawn to other characters.. Neji, Sasuke, Haku... You won't forget characters just because they've died or aren't around... He keeps you in the series, not Naruto.
I agree with on developing other characters, however the frustration comes from the LACK of development of Naruto while 'secondary' characters like Sauske get full development.
This is true.. Guess Kish is doing a great job of building up the anticipation... When Naruto gets better these moments where he seems to be slow in growth will make sense... Plus, with him meeting with the Great Sages, he's clearly going to inherit those powers, and be trained by them..... So here comes the new development.

I agree... some of the Sasuke scene was unneccary compared to the importance of Naruto finding out about Jiraiya. Didn't want to wait until next week to see his true reaction, and what the Sages had to say to Naruto.

yes thats why he gave Kakashi one of his eyes because he was dying. Tobi is really Madara not Obito trust its part of the filler manga before shippuden. yeah i agree about the injury thing but they had to kill him off in a way so kakashi could get the sharingan.

im guessing that itachi gave naruto a bit of his strength was because sasuke could surpress the nine-tails, remember that even before he got the mangekyou sharingan he was able to surpress it, back when sasuke and naruto first met...
also itachi had all of this planed out... how crazy.
i hope he knows what he is doing by not taking the itachis eyes.. that woulod only give that much more strength. and it would look awsome to

i thought it was cool that itachi predicted sasuke's actions by asking naruto what would he do if sasuke were to attack the village and stuff... i think that when they fight itachi's power within naruto wil do some crazy shit that ends the fight

I cant stand sasuke. I never liked him to begin with, although i began to like the guy after i thought him and naruto would be good friends after the chuunin exams, but now i know he has past the point of no return after he tried killing Naruto again. I would love it if Naruto and Sakura would get over Sasuke and move on even if it means Naruto has to kill Sasuke.

I think the typw of powers Naruto will have is to get full control over his Kyuubi powers. The Uchihas sould control the nine tails and maybe that the power itachi gave to Naruto.

Well crap. I thought Sasuke already had Itachi's eyes and looks like I was wrong. But he still has them kept in a preservation container of some sort I imagine. It sounds like he has plans for them (or why keep them around?) and they involve reviving the Uchiha clan.

Itachi saved Sasuke's life because he loved Sasuke. I don't think he wanted to impose his own beliefs on Sasuke. Part of protecting someone is protecting their own hopes and dreams as was pointed out earlier in the series.
Itachi was protecting Sasuke so he could find happiness in his own way. He may not have wanted this particular action, but he was glad to die for Sasuke so Sasuke could decide for himself how to live his life.

Naruto isn't the focal point right now because without the development and understanding of Sasuke's character, Naruto's actions in relation to him wont mean anything to us. We have to understand Sasuke to for Naruto's actions later to have the intended imapct on us as readers.

I somewhat agree, but I understand what Kish is doing. With the focus not being totally on Naruto you can grow an understanding and can be drawn to other characters.. Neji, Sasuke, Haku... You won't forget characters just because they've died or aren't around... He keeps you in the series, not Naruto.

I agree with on developing other characters, however the frustration comes from the LACK of development of Naruto while 'secondary' characters like Sauske get full development.

This is true.. Guess Kish is doing a great job of building up the anticipation... When Naruto gets better these moments where he seems to be slow in growth will make sense... Plus, with him meeting with the Great Sages, he's clearly going to inherit those powers, and be trained by them..... So here comes the new development.

I agree... some of the Sasuke scene was unneccary compared to the importance of Naruto finding out about Jiraiya. Didn't want to wait until next week to see his true reaction, and what the Sages had to say to Naruto.
