  • @niekbatstra In this year I go to aviation school.

I hope that I will be a pilot and I will fulfil my the biggest dream.

Maybe I will be able to upload movie's like yours :)

I wish you a lot of soft landings!

  • Absolutely fantastic!

  • i don't understand the question. There is no such thing audible on the tape, and we never do that. Only thing we do is the speed call out during roll-out, and you can hear the aircraft calling out the altitutes just before landing

  • why does the co-pilot recite the numbers 20,19,18and 17 in all 747 landings after touchdown?

  • it's exhilarating.

  • Love the reverse application... so swift and quick like it should be. Great Vid!!

  • What a beautiful landing!

  • Nice video love the 747 cockpit, went into one during my Atlanta-Paris flight last winter and discussed with the captain the best ways of becoming a pilot. He let me film. It seems as if European airlines are more "lenient" about letting people in the cockpit during a flight. 747 is such a beautiful hopefully one day il be in either the left or right seat!

  • @oliverman22 I wish you all the best. Hope you'll be in the cockpit seat one day!

  • @niekbatstra

    Thanks!

    Clear skies to you!

  • i'd like to know how you all can get so much film material from landings!..i contacted Delta Airlines, and they told me, it's not possible that a flight intendant takes my cam into the cockpit!..

  • i'd like to know how you all can get so much film material from landings!..i contacted Delta Airlines, and they told me, it's not possible that a flight intendant takes my cam into the cockpit!..

  • @jackieniels It's depends on my collegues.. if they agree with it, i film it... But it's not a standard procedure.. especially putting it on the internet isn't..This was an exeption :)

  • @niekbatstra so you're a pilot? :)

i bet it was an exception, that's why i contacted Delta..I'm a really huge Boeing fan.

Seems like they don't care about such things! :P haha

    anyway, thanks for the reply!

  • @jackieniels you're welcome!

  • IFR

  • @Rico8458 ?

  • Nice vid! Thanks!

  • @oceansdoor You're welcome! (I should post more, but I'm really lazy unfortunattely...

  • what mode of landing is this when the auto-pilot says minimums 40 30 10 ???

  • @fastest2000 i don't get the question... as the radio altimeter always calls out these altitudes. For instance: when overflying another aircraft with a difference of 1000 ft, the call out is also 1000 (when you overfly it exactly).. So it doesnt matter whoch type of landing/mode you are in... you always hear them.. I hope this was the answer you were looking for

  • @niekbatstra thanx bro , professional answer :))

  • @fastest2000 You're welcome .. Nothing special.. If I had a question like that I also would have wanted a good answer ;). take care

  • We do our best.. ;)

  • Thanks!

  • Just amazing when you think of how big the aircraft actually is, such a level of professional to bring it down so smoothly. 5 stars!

  • Actually, being honest... the 747 is a easy to land aircraft.. But if you mess it up (flare too late abrubtly, it will definately be a very rough/hard landing... Be ahead/think ahead of the aircraft is a good rule of thumb.. especially with the 747..thanks you for the stars!

  • Awesome video, being a pilot must be cool.

  • Thans! and yes..I love it!

  • I have yet to ride in one of these bad boys

  • Go for it ;)

  • yes thanks for your help!!!

  • You're more than welcome

  • yes im talking about the flare. im sorry i spell it wrong

  • It depends on the speed/wind en especially the actual landing weight.. normally you slowly start to flare when you hear the radio altitude call out of 50 feet.. normally it's between 30 and 50 feet, not later than 30 feet, otherwise it will be a hard landing (or you have to pull much harder in order to still be able to make a smooth landing). Hope this is the answer you were looking for.

  • one more question. whats the correct flarer for this aircraft?

  • I don't get the question, sorry. Maybe you mean what flap setting? of at approximately at which altitude we start the flare?

  • respect niekbatstra you got the dreamjob of thousands of other including me! :>

  • :) I'm lucky, and enjoying my job a lot!

  • ok thanks

  • hi niekbatstra, how long had it taken to you to became a pilot of the 747-400

  • KLM flight academy took me 2 and a half years approximately. It depends a lot on the weather in de beginning because you start with flying VFR, so the weather had to be good. So the average is between 1,5 and 2,5 years to complete. After finishing school i started working for the KLM on the 747. The training for the 747 (type rating) was approximately 3 weeks.

  • 3 weeks just to get a 747 rating...wow...can a USA citizen fly for KLM with a VISA?

  • congrats! I'm sorry, that is not possible.. also you have to speak the Dutch language. KLM cityhopper has some pilots from England, but that's different...

  • man that sucks i can learn Dutch....I looked into Lufthansa but they require 20/20 uncorrected vision but i wear glasses that make my vision 20/20 :( looks like Qantas is my only option atm because i dont want to fly any of Americas shitty airlines except Southwest but I want to fly the heavies which are international

  • nice landing.

one of the smoothest i've seen.

  • you a pilot?

  • that's right

  • that's sweet i was thinking of moving to Germany and flying for KLM but I think im going to move to Australia to fly for Qantas

  • I wish you all the best, and good luck!

  • thanks :)

  • ur welcome

  • What airline??

  • KLM

  • Thankz

  • Ah I Love Runway 28 at O' Hare!

    Great vid b the way.

  • @mateusz767300 thnx!

  • some do some dont it matters what airline you fly for

  • @747Pilot100 true

  • Do pilots tend to start on a smaller plane such as the 737, then progress to the 747 later in their career, or start out as a 747 pilot?

  • @heartslee I started as 747 second officer when I was 22.

  • Nice video quality!

I really like the A380 and the 747, but if I had the choice on a round trip flight I would take the 747 there and A380 back :-).

  • @cjracer1000 LOL

  • Hey, I'm serious!

  • @cjracer1000 i know! i appreciate the comment :)

  • this was so perfect so smooth !!!

  • Nice video and landing ! Favourite :)

  • Why all these wars between A380 and 747 ? you act like PC and MAC stupid warriors, we don't care about your children games. So admire the 2 planes and shut up !

  • /word

  • désolé mon word est en français .

  • Quoi ?

  • nice video and landing

  • Once the 747-8 comes out (hopefully it will) that will be the best plane in the world.

    Great landing btw

  • lol each one of us have diferent opinions about the airplanes, i´m not sure but i think that the A380 is the best airplane but i prefer the boieng 747 becuase the shape i like it a lot and many other characteristics

but if i could fly one airplane would be the A380 lol

  • lol i´m sorry for not specifying...

you have reason, the shape of the boeing 747 is better than A380

but in the other hand the A380 is modern and is bigger than 747 i´m talking about your capacity

but the shape of the A380 in my opinon yes is good but it has shape like a whale and i dont like it a lot but is good.

and the shape of the boeing 747 it´s great

  • i agree with you there. i'm one of those ppl tht take boeing over airbus every time. but i really like the A380. i personally like the shape of it and think its a very nice plane. 747 is amazing but for some reason lately i just love the A380

  • yeah i know, but i think that will be better to fly an airbus A380

but what is better? boeing 747-400 vs airbus A380

  • 747 is old school, and much more beautiful... that's my opinion. I don't know what you mean with 'better', but of course the A380 is a new modern airplane, the 747 is old, so it's not fair to compare which is better. I am a Boeing fan. I like the shape of the 747 much better as the A380.

  • airbus look like big metal dildos

  • What a beautiful job these guys have..

  • :) thanks

  • Feel like a lexus 747

  • I love airplanes!!!!! My dream job is to be a pilot! But the actual career im going for is an aerospace engineer.

  • so basicly the co-pilot just sit there and do whatever the captain said?

  • Not at KLM it is. When we fly, it's a minimum of 2 stretches. In this flight it's Amsterdam-Chicago-Amsterdam. One of the two stretches the captain flies (take-off and landing) and the other one the co-pilot flies. So before the flight you'll deside who is flying which part or you flip a coin or something. So basically everyone is the same, everyone can do the same things on board, only the captain has the final responsibility of the flight (signing paperwork). I hope this answers your question.

  • hmm yeh thanks thats what i thought anyway lol

  • minimum of 2 stretches within how many days?

  • Pilot Flying flies the airplane.

Pilot Not Flying handles radios (i.e. talks to ATC), flaps, landing gear, makes altitude callouts as necessary, watches out the window for the runway environment if they're on an instrument approach (where the PF would be focusing on his instruments), etc...

  • my hat is off to those airline pilots they got a huge machine like that n one mistake n it means trouble for every one good job to all airline pilots who fly any size planes

  • :) thank you

  • jessus O.o .... that was so smooth i coulnt even tell when it touched the landing strip O.o ... Ace pilot landing

  • u can kinda...u can see the reverse thrusters being put into action and the plane shakes just slightly...

  • :) Thanks

  • I coulda sworn he said 'what'r those switches for'?

  • Dear All,

I have some questions about psychology:

*Why do we want to be a pilot?

*Why do jobs related to aviation considered to be more professional?

Besides, what is the leisure to pilot an aeroplane?

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE for your creative ideas and brainstorm.

  • how can you get into the cockpit?

  • cool

  • cool

  • I remeber my first cockpit landing experience! *sigh*

  • ahh flying a big jet is just beautiful !! thank you for this video 5/5

  • :) I completely agree :)

  • I used to work on KLM cargo here in ORD. too bad they stopped their service. I miss you KLM cargo... I had so much fun working on those crazy flights...especially when I would do crew transportation from south cargo to T5. Hope to see you soon KLM cargo

  • thnx ;)

  • this was fu****smooth did you see the time between 10 and the touch down????amazing

  • Was this a manual or ILS approach?

  • A bit of both ;) a manually flown ILS approach

  • Looked manual to me, APPR hold was armed, but the A/P's where not lit. So the Approach hold mode was commanding the flight directors.

  • man this is beautiful!!!!so beautiful!!!wordless(lol) look like my fsx videos with less quality!!lol cheers and thank you for this amazing post

  • You're welcome!

  • nice job

  • thnx

  • 27L?

  • Lol

  • Comment removed

  • i would marry a pilot.

they are pretty wealthy...they are most of the time sexy! :)

    (well the young ones are...lol)

and damn i love flying so much.

i think i want to be a pilot but it cost too much and especially in this economy.

so maybe ill just be a flight attendant.

shit, if i married a pilot, we would always have something in common.

they are just really sexy, and being a pilot is very attractive! :D

  • wow.

  • whatever.

  • It wasn't an insult.

  • oh. then my bad. lol

    :)

  • the best vid on youtube!!!!!!!!! great job

  • haha Thanx!

  • please join our Alan Carter Fan Club on FACEBOOK to honor this great ITVV pilot.

  • Beautiful landing!!!

  • :) thnx

  • KLM is good airline??

  • Of course :) also the biggest European intercontinental airnline.

  • very good yes!

  • what a smooth landing!! so, at what times does KLM land in chicago?

  • omg nice smooth landing!

thats why i dont worry aboud our dutch airliners :D

  • they're dutch.. what do you think?

  • smooth as you like

  • Absolutely cool footage! Did that thing stop on a dime?...

  • it's hard finding woman pilots. I want to be one :D

  • yes you can!

  • you're more likely to be hired because you are a woman. how many white male pilot applicants do you think there are? a woman looks good on an airline's pilot roster

  • True, but i wish u all the luck in the world, cuz its the greatest job ever! Hope you will succeed! We also fly to Toronto (I saw you were from Toronto)

  • At 1:03 is the parking lot i watch planes land all the time! Its a great place to video planes. Lawrence and mannheim in schiller park, Il.

  • Very cool!

  • Mooi filmpje! Ik mag in december ook op dat apparaat beginnen. Bevalt het goed als SO?

  • Hi there! Great video + landing! May I ask is the F/O, Captain Ron Beetstra?

    Many Thanks

  • Thanks! But the answer is no.. I am the second officer, and Rond Beetstra was not one of the other two. Thanks for the comment!

  • Thanks for swift reply, must be a look a like lol. I was once on KL553, approached C. Beetstra at the galley asked if we had the same charts (as I carry a navlog + charts + compass when I'm on a flight to pass time), he came to my seat gave me a mini departure brief, and at the end of the flight gave me his fp!!! Love KLM and Holland, congrats on flying with KLM! Joseph

  • oh sorry, sorry, i didnt remember u :-(. Are u the flight engineer? nice one. lol? how could i forgot u ?? :-)

  • huh? i thought cockpit visits on flights inbound or outbound america are not allowed. How u got in there? are u a flight attendant?

  • haha, that's right.. but I am also a pilot..

  • What was your landing speed? i would want to know so that i could use it in fsx. tnx

  • It depends on the actual landing weight of the aircraft and windcomponent... average is 155 kt with a weight of 280.000 kg and 5 knots headwind.

  • and also.. which pilot would be so stupid to land it not by himself when the weather is that nice!

  • the landing was executed by the autoland-function :)

  • please... I am a pilot and I will know when is was an autoland or not.. and this wasn't one.. we only make an autoland is the visibility is very very poor so we can't see far enough or we cannot see the runway below the limits. Autoland limits are very low on a 747. So please don't place a comment like this if you don't know what you are talking about...

  • Haha Indeed. Well, you must be stupid if you want to make an auto-landing in nice weather. I mean, it gives a kick to land without A/P. Well, NiekBatstra, You are a real pilot? Oh, nice. By the way KLM is best yes :)

  • I fly the 400. It was not an autoland. You can see that all three autopilots on the MCP are off. Definitely hand flown. Hey niekbatstra, you say you are a second officer? in the US that is a Flight engineer. Is that what you call a copilot in the UK?

  • Sir, as you can see I already had some critics on my statement. I doubt it as you say you fly that -400 because, flight engineers are not on -400 flights. It was the -100 -200 and -300 series that had a flight engineer. Now you have the Captain, a First Flight Officer and in this case niekbatstra is occasionally a second flight-officer...

  • Sir, you are indeed funny. Where did I say that the 400 has a flight engineer? I just asked about the use of the term 'second officer' in the UK as opposed to the US. As far as what I fly I can tell you this. I have been an FO and a Captain on the 747-100/200 and an FO on the 400. So trust me. I know that the 400 does not have an FE.

  • If you were a 400 pilot you would have said that autoland is done only in emergency situations. Autopilot always comes off at the decision height the latest. Unless you failed to mention that you're a 400 SIM pilot.

  • You must be the 400 sim pilot because you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. You most definitely can autoland a 400 in normal operations. It is done all the time. Per our Op-specs we can do an autoland as long as we have a visual with the runway (or approach lights) at DH (200 ft in most places). Most people click it off and hand fly it at about 1000-2000 ft, but there is no requirement to do so. You fricken pilot wannabees are just too much sometimes......

  • I haven't touched a sim in about 7 years. I'm a licensed pilot and a flight dispatcher. Do you know what a dispatcher is??

  • one more thing, if you're a 400 pilot, why some places the DH is 200 and other places it is 150? What makes the difference?

  • Um yeah, I know what a dispatcher is. I have been flying 121 for 15 years. The 200 ft I was mentioning is Cat I approach mins. There is no 150 ft DH for Cat I. Cat II can get you down to 100 feet. My company (not telling you who) is only approved for Cat I operations. Where the hell do you see a Cat I approach that has a DH of 150 ft?

  • The DH is not only by what Cat the airport is but also the time tha PIC has flying into that airport. You don't want to tell me what airline you fly for, ok, but is it a US airline? I would guess, you live in US.

  • I do fly for a US airline. PIC time? Are you talking about a high mins captain? In that case you have to add 100 feet to DH. In other words the lowest a high mins captain can descend to is 300 ft (200+100). The only thing that limits your ability to shoot the approach is visibility. You can shoot the approach as long as you have the visibility (or RVR is applicable). DH is not a limitation to commence the approach.

  • 1st-You wrote that you do auto land all the time, and that your company is only approved for Cat 1. Autoland in Cat 1 is not possible, ONLY CAT 3 you can do autoland. 2nd- If you fly 747-400 it can be only one airline, and that's United. You mean to tell me that United is approved ONLY for Cat 1?! That's bull! ANY airline that has 747-440s is approved for Cat 3.You might be a pilot, you know your shit, but not quite enough to fool me. :) And you are definitely NOT a 747-400 pilot. Good day. :)

  • You are fucking killing me! I do not fly for United. My company has had the 400 for only a year and we have not received FAA approval for anything but Cat I (Which is what our 747-100/200s use). YOU CAN MOST CERTAINLY AUTOLAND Cat I approaches if you have the RUNWAY OR APPROACH LIGHTS IN SIGHT BY 200 FEET!!! Dude. You need to get into the books a bit and read up on this shit!

  • First of all, You can NOT Autoland Cat 1, you can autoland only Cat 3 airport. Meaning you keep all 3 autopilots on untill the ground. Second, the US airlines that have ANY type of 747s are United, NorthWest and UPS. All are Cat 3 approved. The only ones that are not approved for cat 3 are some small commuter and regional airlines.

  • You are wrong about the autoland. I am done trying to convince you. As far as US carriers that use the 747-400 there are eight. The US airforce also uses the 400. Use Google next time and you won't sound like like an uneducated tool.

  • If you try to autoland at a Cat 2 airport, (not even Cat 1) the aircraft will descend nicely on the ILS untill a few hundred feed AGL. Then, because the Cat 2 signal is so weak, the airplane will start to oscilate left and right untill the autopilot will disingage itself.Cat1 and Cat2 signals are not strong enough for autoland. Type in here on youtube "Cat 1 autoland". All you'll get is "Cat 1 APPROACH" as a response. Then type in "Cat 3 autoland", you get a shit load of Cat 3 AUTOLANDINGS.

  • Eight US carriers are using 747-400?? Will you educate me and name them for me please? I thank you in advance.

  • Here is a good explanation of the Cat I autoland:

Some airlines are authorized to use autoland on a CAT I approach, because some of the infrastructure is not there to support the actual operation, but the beam is straight enough. OK, so if you do not have the TDZ lighting, no CAT II/III landings. No standby power supply with 1 second change over. No centreline lights and so on. These are PRACTICE autolands and not real autolands. You have to be prepared to take over if it does not work well.

  • US carriers that operate the 747-400:

    -Northwest/Delta

    -United

    -UPS

    -Evergreen

    -Kalitta Air

    -Polar

    -Atlas

    -World Airways

  • Here is a quote from the AIM:

Pilots are cautioned that vehicular traffic not

subject to ATC may cause momentary deviation to ILS course or glide slope signals. Also, critical areas are not protected at uncontrolled airports or at airports with an operating control tower when weather or

visibility conditions are above those requiring

protective measures. Aircraft conducting coupled or autoland operations should be especially alert in monitoring automatic flight control systems.

  • OMG, you are scaring me right now. Of course the beam is straight enough, all beams are. The aircraft will not start to oscilate because the beam is not straight, the airplane will start to oscilate on autoland Cat 1 because the signal is not STRONG enough.

  • Here you go again showing you lack of knowledge. All beams are NOT straight enough. There are several runways with localizer beams are not lined up with the runway. You most definitely don't want to autoland on one of those. Do a Google search on 'LDA approaches'

  • This little paragraph out of AIM talks about deviation to glide slope or localizer bacause of "vehcular traffic not subject to ATC", meaning momentary loss of signal (a second ar most) because of something like FLOCK OF BIRDST. Vehicular traffic not subject to ATV. This does not say that you can do Cat 1 autoland.
