Richard Boone 's trade mark to hold the Trom by the bell must have some advantage for him. But I recognise him by that trademark. They are playin in G
I love jimmy smith but I want to clarify that it did not play bass with the feet, There are also some jazz organist who uses them, apart Rhoda Scott and Barbara denerlein I ' not know in others. most of them are pianists and converted the bass with his left hand on the bottom of the organ keyboard.
Tony Monaco is 'full of himself!" He tries so hard to be the "soulful white boy." I saw him at Nighttown in Cleveland, Ohio...and he grimaced all the time...as if in pain. Comparing him to Smith...is an insult to Jimmy Smith!
dude color of skin has nothing to do with soul (I am talking about musical soul,i don't believe in god) I agree tony was inspired by jimmy's innovation. But tony's riffs and bass lines are up to par with jimmy's. I say this in terms of dexterity not talent because tony has a different style than jimmy. Comparing art or music is like saying that a lemon is better than a lime. sure, YOU might prefer one or the other. but there is no better, they are just different. different fruits, dif riffs
OH MY GOD....cooking that B-3 This is the good stuff like down home cooking. Jimmy always played like it was his last dying gig and cheesing grin too...what National Treasure...RIP
jimmy was the best in jazz on the hammond organ.Larry young, groove smith charles earland, jack mc duff, shirley were great also, but jimmy put the finishing touches on tyhe hammond
Tonewheel B-3's that is, now clonewheels are being made by Hammond Suzuki USA and the portable new Hammond XK-3c Pro System with the Leslie 3300 speaker reviewed in the July 2008 issue of Keyboard magazine is, among the many other accolades, Entirely true to the B-3.
Check it out at hammondorganco (dot com) w/a 2:27 demo by JAZZ MASTER TONY MONACO
Sorry, but you're wrong. If you have a real ear for old Hammond organs, these new Japense made ones do not nail the sound. I don't care how portable the newer ones get, I will always use the vintage Hammond with a 122 or 147 Leslie...
How can I be wrong? If you have a real reading comprehension ability, you will note that I merely CITED an opinion by KB Magazine when I responded that B-3s are still being manufactured (in a sense), and other than the demo, I've never heard the combo. My son (k/b player) will enjoy playing his B3/Leslie in our basement, but relies on his Nord w/ Motion Sound PRO-3T spkr on the road...
Oh, you meant the Jap-a-n-e-se made ones - never mind...
What jumped out at me in your comment is, "true to the B3". They come close but still not the same. The Nord btw, is better than the Japanese Hammonds, but still not identical.
Correction! He WAS one of the best, unfortunately. Preston is gone too, so that leaves only Booker T. Lets hope he resurfaces. We need those great Hammond players
All this 55 year-old white boy from Mississippi can say is this: Jimmy Smith changed everything. Man this guy could cook. The Master of the B3 - the late, great Jimmy Smith.
HAMMOND STOPPED MAKING THE B3 IN THE FIFTIES. IT IS ONLY ONE USED IN JAZZ. YOU CAN'T BUY A NEW ONE ANYMORE. i WAS LUCKY TO PICK UP A USED. ALSO, TOU NEED A LESSLE SPEAKER, PREFERABLEY THE 122 OR 147. THE hAMMOND DPEAKER DOES HAVE THE ROTATONG SPEAKERS.
A cosmic "shout-out" to the late Michael Chinnock, who gave me a stack of Jimmy Smith albums in 1965. Thanks Mike!....Ed Thigpen is alive and deeply involved in advanced level music education. He's the subtlest, tastiest, most supportive ensemble drummer of them all.
He is, in JAZZ, the equivalent of Jon Lord in ROCK (I'm a rocker ;-) ): you listen to a CD and, just in a second, you can understand that Jimmy is playing.
I Have Been Inspired By Jimmy Smith,I Remember My Father Giving me his Origional Vinyl Years Back,I Feel in Love with Jazz and blues Instantly:)He is a Legend and his Sound Will Live on Forever:)Peace:)
man i love jimmy! look at the Hammond Argan with 2 Leslie speakers! i love that chord he breaks on in argan grinder swing while the trombone and guitar player solos!!
As a bass player, I bow to Jimmy's bass pedal dancing. Very solid, dead-on, smooth and never misses a beat or note. He was gifted and he can put me out of business any day of the week. We miss you Jimmy.
I have noticed his right hand and looks like he may have had problems in later years as I had not seen it in person when we were younger.I use to stand in line in Chicago to standing room only and never got to see him.
My goodness there will never be another Jimmy Smith!!! This is swangin pretty hard and that Hammond argan is soundin mighty goawd with them 2 leslies behind him!!
Second to none, the master, the boss, the incredible...! Hard to watch without getting a lump in the throat. Still can't believe he's no longer with us...but his soul goes groovin' on!!
yes,
sure JS is nice, but he is there on this clip with other musicians at dr tb g ,
it would be glad to read their names, but all you people want to have a star.
