  • hayabusabart: Watch the video sing along and enjoy the feelings you get and the emotions you get from it! It's what I do!

  • Moving, however, no one can surpass Yvonne Eliman in the film from 1973

  • Please use spell check if your eyes are filled with tears.

  • The most loyal of all Christ follower's was Mary Mag, she did not betray him like judas or deny knowing him like peter and she was the first to see him once he had risen

  • She had better be quiet Jesus is sleeping. Im sure he's a nice guy until u wake him up

  • her vocals were nothing spectacular but her emotion and acting.... truly moving

  • Wow...she sealed that performance with a kiss

  • she is realy hot i mean look at her

  • Beautiful. Mary

  • I saw her perform this live on Broadway and she did a FANTASTIC job! It was amazing!!!!

  • Oh goodness, how do I overacting. I wish someone would be in a filmed version for everyone to see who can both act and sing, not sound like a wailing cat.

  • I don't know..not my version.

  • I don't think this is overacted. Imagine how you would be in her position. You can't, can you? I know I can't. Besides, in theater, if you think you look stupid and are overacting, you're doing it right. c:

  • jesus is a restless sleeper aint he...

  • @talkstoangels lol thats cos someones singing loudly while he is sleeping lol

  • this is the most beautiful version of this song, what i ever hearded.

  • i... just don't get it. i watched the whole series of this version, (and the 1973 version too), i gave thumbs up for many songs in this series... but just not this one.

this is nothing special, a little bit too over acted, and out of context (since Jesus & Mary's relationship here is kinda clear already)

usually i don't compare which version is better, i like both they have their own plus and minus, but an exception for this particular song/scene, i gotta say that I like the 1973 mary better.

  • @lumutmenjulurrr totally agree about the overacting - i feel she ruined the song about by breaking down alot. once would have been fine. it feels like too much here. I guess if it were on stage though it would be good as you feel the atmosphere of a scene much more in the theatre then you do watching a film. much prefer the new version than the old version though :D

  • I love how her voice goes with this song :) The sound of her voice matches it so well

  • I love this song and I love her voice an her facial expressions!

  • Yvonne Elliman's version is much more respectful of the One to Whom she is singing. She does not fondle Jesus as she sings.

  • Looks lipsynched.

  • She cannot compare to Yvonne Elliman, but this may be the one breath of fresh air in the entire movie.

Thank god they had at least one decent singer.

The only problem is /still/ Carter. I don't see why he moves her either. :|

  • I must say this womas is wonderful, I rted all the comments about how she is better then Yvonne Elliman and I went back and listened to Yvonne and I must be honest that for me Yvonne is the much better singer, you can feel the emotions from her heard, she is hands over fist better then this version but this lady is wonderful also.

  • @Josievago yeah you're right man, this artist deserves merit for her rendition but Yvonne's is superb!

  • Großartig!!!!

  • I've never seen the movie, and I don't know the story behind this song, but she does a good job! She has a very pretty voice.

  • Her voice literally gives me chills. So amazingly talented.

  • Totally unconvinced by both of them. They couldn't have over acted more if they tried. Castle has the most typical sound of someone who's been through musical theatre training. The whole point of this show is that it's a rock opera, that it has a rawness to it that can connect through emotion. There's no spoken dialogue in the entire show, the characters have to be believable in song for this to work. This version was uncomfortable to watch. Watch Yvonne Elliman for a truly expressive rendition

  • @vardoandtheboss Nailed it. That's exactly my feeling about this version. To be fair, there are some fantastic singers in this version, and I do really like some scenes in this one, but it isn't real; it's far too over-acted. I've never been able to put my finger on what it is.

  • the butiefalst song i know !

    she sings so wonderfull !

btw. i learn to sing it at notenames in musicscool!!! XD

i wanna hear it and so i come to this video!!!

  • Ok, i love this song. But it doesn't seem like there's a single person who can manage to sing it. Maybe it's just the sound system or something...I can barely hear her!

  • I love the complete rock opera in this version actually, and though I loved Yvonne Elliman in this role a lot at the time, Renee Castle's performance absolutely tops it for me. This is such a brilliant song..tears me apart completely.

  • no one can sing this song but Yvonne Elliman

  • Really good this. I like the other movie version more but i think thats because its the first one i saw. This is impressive though! maybe could be pulled back a bit. Anyone who has time please listen to my cover of Gethsemane.

  • Beautiful, even though it's probably a reworked edition of Mendelssohns Violin Concerto Mvt.2

  • The 70s acress sung it better, with more passion, more convincingly.

  • Erinnert mich an meinen ersten Liebeskummer!!!

    Echt süß!

Muß dabei lächeln- ist auch schon ein paar Jahre her!;-)

  • her acting seems almost comical and over-done! and the vocals sound a bit lazy at times, not a great performance!

  • @lydflorence Still, it's hard to find better performances of this song.

  • This song gives me chills.

  • This is probably one of the best performances of this song that I've ever seen. It's a beautiful song, but the way she conveys the emotion is astounding!! I mean, if you think about it, it's confusing for any woman to realize that she's falling in love with someone...and she's falling in love with the Messiah!

  • @SpindalSong for me it's a little bit overpressed :)

  • The best musical.

  • Not her. Mimi was played by Rosario Dawson.

  • Excellent performance.

  • I love this song.. it's so moving.. my late mother was a very god fearing woman and also loved this song. I just stumbled on this video almost by accident.. tell you the truth I am typing this with tears in my eyes.. I really miss my mom..

  • @hayabusabart May your mom rest in peace. When the time comes you will see her again. Maybe then I will meet you too, someone who 'feels', too many people lately DONT feel a thing in the world and thats part of the problem lately.

  • I loved seeing her play Mimi in RENT in 07. She's great. =)

  • @Kennedy0684 I KNEW IT! i thought she looked like a Mimi...

  • im singing this song for an adition !

  • i love her voice! its so sweet!

  • this is very nice song in czech language, too.

  • @evuss123

And in polish version too ; ]

    Look on youtube, .

    In Poland, chorzow. Verry nice.

    Like this xD

  • He is my Lord and my God. Praise to His Holy Name.

  • uh...this is not really good...

  • Does anyone got her phonenumber?

  • she over acts at times

  • I think you should watch the original.......

  • Thanks for sharing this and allowing comments too. I do know how to Love Him, I pray everyday for Knowledge of His Will for me and the Power to carry that out. I get good answers to my prayers. I love this song. XoX

  • This is really good performance, really like the song and the way, how does that women sing.

  • Why did they choose a white guy to play Jesus? The actor they chose is almost blonde, with very light skin! Jesus was a Jew from the Middle East, He probably had dark hair and medium dark skin. The actor just doesn't look like Jesus Christ to me. But then again, this musical is not an accurate portrayal of Him, so why should the actor look anything like Him? BUT I STILL LOVE THIS SONG!!!! And this is one of my favorite versions.

  • @deusregnat Glenn Carter

  • @deusregnat does it matter? i'm sure there weren't black apostels also. so no one feats into original image.

  • @kavtoM There were several black men mentioned in the book of acts who were important figures in the church....though nobody knows the races of the apostles. I just think seeing a blonde Christ is funny.

  • @deusregnat wasn't Ted Neeley also blond?

  • @steffxdarling Good luck darling. God bless!

  • She has a very nice voice...I like her!

@Chazza2611: You are right...the song is full of emotions and they are express of her voice!

  • I personally can't see what everyone else is seeing, to me her voice was nothing special, in fact it seemed so jerky because of the emotion she was trying to portray, which I also thought was completely ott. I understand its a really emotional song but I think if it were done with more subtelty it could be so moving, i just found this portrayal quite annoying to watch to be honest, anyone else agree?

  • @crazydramaqueen123 i like her voice, but i am not sure it can be compared with the one singing in the movie, yvonne elliman, a little more subtle.

  • This is a song I can relate to at the moment </3

  • @steffxdarling Congratulations! I hope you enjoy yourself :)

  • In my opinion probabbly the best version of that legendary song- that girl has perfect voice and, what is even more attracting, she puts whole heart and a lot of emotions into performance. I wonder what has happend that Renee didn't develop her career somehow??

  • i can relate to this song

  • have to sing this for my singing exam! :)

  • It is a really nice sounding song.... but it sounds too much like Mendelssohn's violin concerto 2nd movement. so much that I wouldn't doubt that the composer was listening to it while he was composing this nice ditty.

  • @ninjabakerDJsniper NICE DUDE YOU READ THAT CRACKED ARTICLE TOO HUH?

  • @datsik ZOMG! YOU ALSO READ CRACKED?!?!?!

  • I get goose bumps litening to her. She puts so much of herself and feelings into the song. WOW

  • oh god this song is so sweet and cute i just love it (:

  • @eRiikaNtZ I wouldn't call it "cute", I think it's simply sad and desperated... :/

  • gotta learn this for my voice lesson. i'm excited!

  • Good voice, ¿she's pop singer?

  • Who's playing Jesus in this video?

  • @fafoosnick6839 jesus

  • Me encanta!!!!! :D

  • I have heard many versions of this song. None of them including this one compare to Yvonne Elliman's. This girl's voice is unremarkable and she overacts. Yvonne Elliman's voice and tone nail both the emotion and vulnerability of the song and her acting perfectly captures the theme of the song without overdoing it or seeming like she is trying too hard.

  • This one is fine, but no one sings this song like the lady who made it a huge hit--Helen Reddy.

  • not bad, just a little mistake: she shouting loudly while jesus sleeps. hmm, he must be rly tired :D

  • lmao first rule of any religion, let god sleep lol

  • lolol.....U R F up......

  • hes definitley a heavy sleeper, remeber when he slept through a strom while he was on a boat, then the apsotles came and got him and were all like "woah. Jesus, the waves man!" and He was all like "you have no faith" and he went back to bed and the waves stopped

  • I"ve heard them alll this is one of the best!!

  • It has been many years since I heard this beautiful song! It ws beautiful.

  • I always enjoyed the Helen Reddy version, but this is very good too!

  • this song is really great, we're going to perform this on our spring concert :) her voice is so beutiful..

  • great voice. gretings from portugal

  • I love this song, the way she sings it and the pure emotion...fantastic!

  • @Chazza2611 I agree. A lot of this version of the show could not hold a candle to the 1973 version with Ted Neeley, but this scene really worked.

  • @Chazza2611 Violin Concerto

  • she is acting and singing at the same time and she is great at both

  • i love her so

  • Una voce bellissima!!! Brava

  • Not a fan of her interpretation at all. Eh-- maybe some of her emotion. But her singing-- not amazing like Yvonne.

  • wow her voice is awful

  • Haha!!!:D

  • This song has it wrong.

Jesus wasn't "just a man". He was so much more.

  • She thinks he is though. So far, anyway. That's why she finds it diffucult to understand how to love him - she only knows how to love men.

  • Of course he is. I understood her lines like this: She knows very well that he is special, not only because she fell in love with him, but also because he is no ordinary human in general. But since she's afraid of her feelings, she tries to play them down and convince herself that it's all just foolishness.

  • AWESOMMME, i love it!!! so beautiful perfeckt.thanks Pete for faving it on your channel, °°°°°°°°°°°°^^ all my stars and more!

  • The best Mary I've heard.

  • I saw her when the show was at the ford center for the performing arts. She is great.
