  • i love you april walsh

  • I knew I knew you from somewhere!!! Who would have thought it was American Idol!!

  • FUCK SIMON!!! :3

  • F YU SIMON!!!!!!

  • @RockstrrEmi Eh, you know him. He's predisposed to say no to girls of a certain size and showtunes. And I combined the two, so...

  • You were the one that went up the down escalator?? Been trying to find that clip...

  • @NedSCUBAyah Hah! If you ever find it, let me know so I can download it. My family would get a kick out of having my klutzy ways immortalized.

  • nice syrup.

  • @mooshmommy Honey, actually. But I have since discovered lukewarm water and cherry flavored halls are the vocal cure-all. If only I'd known that then (or gulped down honey somewhere without cameras)

  • i love Randys reaction

  • if they cut the dancing ,and add the funky music she would be amazing!thats a fact?????????????

  • lol simon's an arse. he's good for telling off those people who really cant sing but that was mean.

and she had fun! - i thought it was great :)

  • I still remember April and red outfit, years later. I always wanted her to make it -- I mean, who else has the cojones to sing Bjork on a show like American Idol!? And she pulled it off so good for her.

I remember her in that 'chair' episode where, after being told she'd been cut, she got up with a smile and said 'on to the next audition.' Little things like that always stick out.

We need some more people like her on Idol.

  • i wouldn't have said "by bjork" but "made famous by bjork" but it sounded good. ^_^

  • Comment removed

  • Whoa!! April I didn"t know you were there at the American Idol, and what happen? I saw you at Laguna Beach CA and you were awesome...

  • Simon is a jerk . Hes only jealous HE cant sing like HER <3

    awesome job

  • @ILuvBritLouTayTay yeah Simon Cowell is jealous he cant sing like her.exactly.

  • she was awesome

  • droping names like bjork only puts her in the mind of the listener and then when you sing they compare you to her. bjorks voice is unique, better had used anyone else. tip: dont do that.

  • @aeroplano Hey, it got me in front of the judges, which is hard to do. No regrets.

  • woo go paula..tell that tanned manboobed bully to shut the fuck up!

  • this is so amazing! :D i think for mainstream auditions you should kind of go just a little bit less wild so the judges will be alright and not weided out

  • I thyink she could be good... but she just isn't. lol but she looks great!

  • holy hell she was so amazing!!!

  • You're so lovely

  • i think would be freaking amazing in theater

  • I remember I saw you on TV. I was so rooting for you!!!

    GREAT JOB!!

  • you are sooo adorable i am totally thumbs upping this vid:)

  • I think she would be a really really really good musicalstar! she got everything to be one!

  • i loved it

  • your talented and funny and really pretty! great job! :D

  • wow, that was really good :D

    you should invest in broadway.

  • I wish I could see you singing the whole song!

  • That was awesome.

  • always in this kind of programs sing that bjork´s song

  • omggggg april you are ah-mazing! what a voice!

  • @dropdeadx0x0x Aw, thanks. I don't think much of this performance, though. It wasn't my best. I was trying to be funny.

  • hahaha, Randy Jackson smiles when she says "I´m gonna sing its oh so quiet by Björk" because that song is a cover made by her.

  • Not sure if Randy actually knew it was originally Betty Hutton. I did. I just said Bjork to get the reaction. Bjork always gets a little smile because people think she's crazy. I know she's a genius, but most people...

  • Are you April? I LOVE BJORK! And i get very happy when i see someone for the first time do an audition using a song by Björk! You sang beautifully i loved it! Regards from Costa Rica!

  • @Kaneda1972 Yes, I am. And thank you :)

  • Haha this is like the first time I though Simon a bit rude, he's usually fair in his opinions but that comment was a bit blurted out wihtout thought.

  • In context, it made more sense. See, they didn't show the whole audition. He compared me to a dinner theater performer, Paula and Randy fought with him a bit about it, then he said the dessert comment. He was much nicer to me in Hollywood week.

  • Oh, ok good thing, you're saving him from my disapointment ;)

  • Cool style, awesome voice. I remember when I first saw this I thought you kinda reminded me of Billie McCarthy (contestant from Australian Idol, youtube her, she's great!). But anyways, I was disappointed when they didn't put you through. I was really looking forward to seeing you compete in the Top 24.

    Take care April!

  • Thanks. Top 24 would've been fun, but I'm good with where I got. Plus, I met two of my current greatest friends that season. No complaints here.

  • You have amazing legs in that outfit!

  • Thanks! I think my legs are my one feature I show off with no shame.

  • o.0 is dis broadway or american idol?

  • Can't it be both? Seriously, broadway has its place in popular music. Back in the day, every popular song was out of a broadway musical. Where do you think most songs deemed "standards" come from?

  • Well done!

  • nice!

  • I found this searching to see if anyone did Bjork at an American Idol audition. Nice choice of song and good performance!

  • O.O

  • great that you picked that song

  • shes GOOD!

  • shut up guys,,,

i want to have i bite from my desert

  • She didnt sing it perfectly in tune and she was a bit too jumpy, but her voice is good.

  • Very cool and very fun performance. Good for you!!

  • Wow, I'm amazed at how talented you are. You look great too.

  • awsome... youre sooo thin!

  • I'm trying to figure out what you mean. I'm obviously not thin (and not ashamed of that fact).

Ah, sarcasm. Got it. Nice of you.

  • nono, you got me wrong! you look SO thin in this vid, ive seen your other videos and you seem a lot more thin in here, im complementing you :(

  • Now I get you. Sorry for getting all offended. I was thinner then. I feel like I eat so much less now, but it all stays right on my hips. Damned aging.

  • I like your style, strategy and performance.

  • i TOTALLY remember this! you did SO well! I LOVE IT!

  • your hair and clothing styles are about 60 years too late hun, but you have a decent voice, good for you for making it to hollywood!

  • The 40's are coming back again. Mark my words.

  • agreed

  • I think her look suits the style of music she auditioned with.

  • I dig it alot..

Maybe a Bette Midler number with a little more soul would bring out your best..

Loved the Karaoke, sound quality was badddd...

You got it , never never never give up..

  • you are fantastic :)

  • wow! i think you rushed it a little bit, but your voice is absolutely great.

  • AMAZING...SHE'S AWESOME

  • she was pretty good

  • you were actually pretty good

  • I like your soul, it's so filled with enthousiasm :P (btw you can really sing well but the preformance itself was a bit odd, having said that, I still think you sang great)

  • haha i loved your song choice, would be a fun song to audition with.

  • Bjork is the best female artist of all time.

  • haha paula said yes out of spite XD

  • The echo at the end was awesome !

  • i dont really watch american idol, but i really enjoyed watching your audition. i love bjork. i usually dont like any of the songs the contestants choose. anyway your video made me happy. i wish you had made it further in the competition. you should try again :)

  • So, how far did you get on American Idol? Love that song by the way!

  • Just top 44. It was a fun experience, but I still wish I'd had a chance to be voted on just to sort of complete the experience.. Ah, well...

  • Hey, thanks so much for replying back to my comment! No one really does! If you are interested, check out my videos, and please comment. Probably not as good as you, but I need feedback!

  • it's b-yerk not b-york

  • Don't mean to be rude, but for the billionth time... I got it. I pronounced the name wrong. I should be drawn and quartered, then lit on fire, then Carrot Top (or someone equally horrifying) should piddle on the ashes of me.

Sorry. Guess I should be more understanding. I get the shakes whenever I hear someone say "on accident" (it's BY ACCIDENT. "On accident" means nothing!!!!)

  • i didnt mean it rudely and i didnt realize there was people breathing down your neck about it,i was just putting it out there for everyone because most people say it wrong and i think they would rather say it right. honestly it doesnt bother me at all

  • No es más que una "gordita robalonches".

Muy simpática. Justo el personaje bufón que American Idol siempre necesita.

  • My Spanish is so bad. I have no idea if I'm supposed to be pleased or insulted. But thank you for commenting?

  • is paula prettyer n like face too face?

  • Hee! The honey thing is hilarious. So random. They must have had camera's everywhere just waiting for anything unusual. You cracked me up with the little "eh, whatcha going do" shrug when you told them Bjork. Great fun and I don't care what Simon said, he seemed to be enjoying himself and just pulled out the grump card after you seemed a sure thing with the other two judges. Thanks for sharing the clip.

  • She's just awesome and so cute

  • if thats u then u saw paula ur soooooooooo lucky i would die to c her

  • She really is a sweet and giving person.

  • o hey how do u sign up 4 it?

  • Just go to the show's website in the summer. They usually list what cities they're holding them in with instructions around then. Keep in mind, there are 3 initial auditions before going in front of the celebrity judges.

Good luck if you do try out!

  • who judges that then? n do u have to b good to get passed that or what?n who judges us? n do they say yes or no or what?

  • My bad. I meant that there are two initial auditions to pass before getting to the big three. The first are judged by producers, who take only about ten percent of the many, many auditioners. After that, the exec producers take about a third of those to the big three. You can be good or bad and get through either. The key is to be interesting. I auditioned in SF before Denver and never got past the first round. The key was to stand out as I knew I wasn't getting by on voice alone b/c of my looks

  • what did u tell them that was interesting?

  • I don't think it was anything I told them. I just dressed up like it was 1938. That gets attention, as well as the fact that I said I was singing a Bjork song. That raised a few eyebrows. It was something interesting for them and not more of what they were seeing all day. I also made lots of jokes when I was being interviewed, etc... I sold myself as "quirky," funny because, as I said, I don't have pop idol looks, so I had to stand out with what i had.

  • o ok well omg im scared i dont know what to say

  • n i would go crazy if i saw her :)

  • I love Bjork, this is a tough song to sing, especially that first note you belted out, its easy to go sharp on a note like that, sounds good

  • Awesome! Now if you only stopped jumping around your singing would come out even better;)

  • Hey, you gotta get yourself noticed. I did sing another where I didn't move much, but they rarely air the whole thing.

  • Beautiful lady, beautiful voice - reminds me of a retro record :)

  • I like her voice a lot!

  • i think she's actually quite good?

  • Good job! How far did you get in Idol? I don't watch it so I have no idea.

  • I got to top 44, Not a bad thing to take away, over all.

  • I love how you turned her screams into breaths!!

  • LOL. I had to. I didn't want to scare them.

  • I thought you did a great job.

  • Thank you so much.

  • You sound really good. Loud! Haha. Simon's a retard. "Uhhh if you were sitting eating dessert and someone uh-" STFU, Simon. For the love of God. It's not about how you'd react when you're sitting at a restaurant stuffing your face. Lmao. I know he's just a TV personality and I don't give a rat's ass about him, but it was just such a totally irrelevant example, like he really didn't have anything to support his choice so he just decided to be a douche. Typical, I guess. Lol. Anyway. Nice one.

  • They cut some stuff out of the audition. He was comparing me to dinner theater performers in general. With the way they edited it, it does seem a random comment. I see that. He did grow to respect me after my first performance in the Hollywood rounds after I sang the crap out of "Bat Out of Hell." Of course, they didn't air that *grinds teeth*

  • Well that explains a lot! xD Anyway, I confess I don't really watch American Idol but I thought you did great, so props to you. :3

  • You're voice and the way you sing, I'm kinda sad that they didn't air you singing bat out of hell, think you'd do an awesome job with it

  • AMAZING...SHE'S AWESOME...

  • that was good man

  • i think you would be good in broadway .

  • I reckon you are just what is needed in a recession. May you go far. Stay in there. I'm with the "I like you",s.

  • she matches the background. i liked simons comment as always

  • To explain... again. I am a fan of Bjork (and my bad on pronouncing her name wrong). I am aware that this is the absolute least of her songs and also aware that it was sung by Betty Hutton originally. But this was what I had to do to get as far as the judges. It wasn't the only song sang. I also sang Only the Lonely by The Motels (without the hysterics). They just don't show that stuff. I was presented as "quirky."

  • JAJAJA, I like it very much! I am a big fan of Bjork and you did it great!!!

  • You have this great 1950's vibe to your voice, you belong on a broadway stage.

  • So long since I checked this. But thanks to you and all those who suggested Broadway. I've been considering an east coast move. Heck, I've done one film, one commercial and one sitcom. Maybe it's time to get back to live theater (something you cant do easily in California).

I still don't consider this clip representative of my singing. It was short and didn't show the whole audition. I'm hoping to get some video up of singing some stuff that doesn't pigeon-hole me so much. But I'm lazy, so...

  • You should definetly do broadway!

  • OMG YOU SHOULD HAVE SCREAMED! XD

  • more of a standard jazz style than Bjorkesque

  • holy crap she nailed it! almost better than bjork, but not quite obviously. that was excellent.

  • Anyone who does Bjork on American Idol gets a high 5 from me. XDD Seriously! I think the only reason Simon said no is because that style's not mainstream and thus wont get him as much money as say Jordan Sparks or someone like that. It's great nonetheless.. Screw the mainstream! lol

  • i have to say that was incredible. anyone who chooses to do a bjork song for an idol audition (and owned it like you did) should have gotten the big prize.

  • The guy already starts laughing after he hears "Bjork"

  • winner

  • Hey sounds great!

  • i think it funny how she says björk XD

    dno why .. ;/

  • I know it's not the greatest performance ever, but I was doing it to be funny and stand out. I'm a fat girl and I can't just go in and sing pretty. I need to stand out. So I do a funny number and see what happens. Hey, it got me to Hollywood, where I could show them that I have more range than that (not that they, you know, aired that footage...)

  • thats not a bjork song --its Betty Hutton

  • I know that. But it was covered by Bjork and Bjork's name gets more of a response. It's hard to get in front of the judges at all. Imagine the situation... You're dressed like a taxi dancer, circa 1939. You say you're going to sing Bjork. They're expecting the strangely haunting Bjork songs (not so favorable accapella) and then you bust out with that. It grabs attention and that's what the initial auditions rounds are about.

  • excellent voice!!!!

  • Her name is pronounced B-yerk

  • Thank you. It'd be nice if people would start calling her that. lol

  • No it's not. But then again, the closest thing is the sound you have in english in for instance church or jerk or whatever. But do remember the rolling R on the tip of your tongue. Icelandic people even have an H mixed in somwhere.

  • ur really good!

  • I LOVE YOU April! ♥

  • she is ok but the dancing was baddddd!

  • she was fuckin awsome. bjork has a range not many can do.

  • he sounds so rude when he just laughs

after she said the song she was singing..

  • Wow, you are good!

    p.s. this is Andy.

  • She's pretty good, but it's pronounced "Byirk" not "Byork".

  • i like paula shes so nice!

  • She really is the sweetest person. I always get upset when there's bad press on her because, from my experience with her, she's a very giving and caring person. After Idol, she helped me out, cutting a tape of me and sending it to New Line Cinema, which allowed me to try out for the Hairspray movie. I didn't get the part, but I later found out that she did that for me. She's such a doll.

  • Oops! The above comment is from me, but I didn't realize I was posting under my roomie's youtube name.

  • april, you rock!

  • You go girl! Great voice, great attitude, and most important of all you seemed to have a great time! Loved it. Its refreshing to see someone singin something that isn't Alicia Keyes or W Houston ( No offense, o like them but you get tired after a while)

    Good luck girl!

  • That was fun fun fun!!! :-) You go girl!!

  • good job apey!!!

  • She wasn't all that bad. Pretty good voice. She's better than the chick that was tone deaf lol

  • I think you were wonderful...and I love that song.

  • Do you live in Denver?

    I do. :)

    Very entertaining audition!

  • I liked your singing it's way better than alot of people, and I also love Bjork's music even though we all know this son was song by Betty.

  • hahaha that song isnt written By Bjork

  • I'm aware of that - "by Bjork" just happens to get someone's attention - if i said Betty Hutton, people would be all "Who?"

  • "Drinking Honey coats a dry throat. It's possible I should have squeezed it down somewhere more private, but that's life."

Ooooh. Yeah, that'll make for a "sweet" lubricant...hehe.

  • awesome! I hope you make it big/made it big.

  • and she didnt win

  • Eh, to each his own...

  • funny - anyone who DOESN'T like Bjork isn't okay with me

  • Way to go! Simon is now on my hit list forever.

  • wow...great voice... not the look for AI , but your great! have a nice life ;)

  • yeah!!! that's my friend i love you...great great...it's so nice to see good comments under a video...mine not so much...lol love ya

  • I think she would be very good for Broadway.
