Thanks!! :-) All the visual effects were done in Adobe After Effects (with a few plugins to help with the chromakey and laser blast) but the lightsaber effect was bare-bones off-the-shelf After Effects. I stood in front of a greenscreen for the second half of it. And the lightsaber sounds were made by "shaving" a metal bowl with an electric razor. Nothing from the Star Wars movies themselves was used :-)

However, considering that this commercial got featured in The New York Times, aired on VH1 and E!'s The Soup, was mentioned on ABC News and Fox News and shown at American Film Institute and then George Lucas's Educational Foundation liked it...

It wasn't the chromakeying effort itself that was the problem. It's where this was all shot at.

I'm not at liberty to say where, other than (a) it wasn't my own facility and (b) the lighting conditions were VERY crappy. There's only so much you can do in post to make up for a badly-lit background.

I tried for 2 days to make it look perfect, and this was the best that I could do.

Incidentally the guy who came in 5th place and was last to get a seat, stole campaign signs the night before the election. He then sued the guy who came in 6th place for trying to hold him accountable, and the one who came in 7th is now in prison for possessing child pornography and molestation.
