No matter what recording I listen to, everybody seems to take the same cue when repeating the trio. Is this variation written out or suggested in the sheet music, or is the cue taken from Jenks' recording?
@stuartsa It's written out. I play it pretty much as written. Incidentally, what other recordings are you referring to? I'm only familiar with Jenks's own recordings of the rag (one as a duet with Dan Grinstead), but I'd be interested in hearing others.
@bixvenuti Sue Keller recorded it on her "Rag Time Sue" album. And although she continues the tremolo chords throughout the trio repeat, only the first half gets the 8va treatment.
Thanks! Glenn Jenks is one of my favorite ragtime composers and the sheet music for this (and others of his rags) is available directly from him. His web site is glennjenks (dot) com
This is a contempory rag by Glenn Jenks, written in 1975. It is the opener for Bryan Wright's show on Tuesday night live on Elite Syncopation's radio live 365 dot com. I love it, and am currently learning it on piano!!
