  • This is a nice tribute and nice attempt at the song. Dude has a set of pipes. But better than the original???? Put the crank pipe down bro! It is no where even approaching the original. To be fair, it's not an easy song, I'm a singer and musician and I doubt I could do this song justice either.

  • @jmuscarel I'd have to side with you. It's nowhere approaching the original.

  • Another great cover. I had a lot of difficulty getting to it though, because You Tube had blocked it with a filter - in spite of specifically asking for it. Perhaps you should take this up with them. Other people should get the chance to hear this, and you deserve a greater audience. Now I see you have also covered "Too much on my mind", another favourite of mine. You really do have impeccable taste.

  • Great video to a Great song.. The end piece was absolutely PERFECT!!

  • Worked the night shift tonight, had your wonderful rendition of this song (better than the original) on repeat.

  • @RikiTikiTaviXVX I really am humbled and want to thank you for making my day. I have often wondered if anyone ever hears all these older posts. Glad to see that they do!

  • No insanity of humankind compares to war. It is belated infanticide for those who fear adolescent and young adult males.

  • come visit us over at the official ray davies forum and also the official kinks forum...google to get the lonks because they dont let you post links here???

  • One of the greatest anti-war songs ever written, god save the kinks and Ray Davies. The greatest band and songwriter of all time!

  • Amen to that !! Thanks for listening to this tribute I made.

    Mike

  • well done.

  • 1:07

    gets me

    well done mate

  • Hard to imagine that anyone could allow soldiers returning from Iraq to be thrown in jail for being in arrears in child support isn't it? Especially when it's not even their child? It's called paternity fraud. All the more reason young men should not die in war. Nobody really cares anyway. It makes me very angry and sad to see all those ribbons on cars -- "We support the troops!" Yeah, right!

  • This really moved me, Castille. Beautifully done. I sent it out to all of my friends.

The part in the end reminds of the famous painting of Myra Hindley composed of children's handprints. Chilling.

  • Thank you so very much for your kind remarks, for telling your friends (and for having such a great username)!! "....Dont go into woods tonight, cause underneath the sticks and stones

are lots of little demons enslaved by annabella,

waiting just to carry you home..." ;)

  • Issued oct 3, 1969.

On the way into Manhatten from the airport a week or so later we passed a peace demo and this was being played through huge speakers, we were all surprised that it had been latcrd onto so quickly.

  • I wish all the world's appointed governors would learn by the poignant truths in music such as this and many others, but I dare say they never EVER will. Over and over again Century in Century out the song writer's desperate cries disappear in a foul soup of nonsense with artificial sweetners. Que Sera Eh???... Damn, DAMN Fuckin' shame. John Lawson.

  • this has long been one of my favorite songs. glad to see others out there know it and are also moved by it.

  • We need peace in the whole world. Christ,Moslem, Budist,Hinduismus and other religions. we Dont need the fucking bombs and war. greating from germany. piace frieden piece paix paz мир السلا

  • While we need peace, war is the only thing that ever changes things. The people with the influence and the power will always want more and they will abuse their positions of trust. So, I'm afraid that we must have war to remind the bastards that the trust they have been given is limited, in time and scope.

  • muy buenas canciones tienes doctor castille. me a dado gusto escucharlas . te saludo desde buenos aires argentina.. good song men!

  • Muchisimas gracias, nemmi !!

  • it speaks for itself ... when will we listen ...

  • Very haunting. The ending was very apropos - it really hit home. This video deserves to be seen. As for the cover version of a great RD song - it was very good. Many of RD's roughly 400-song catalog are timeless, esp this one. Some Mother's Son is as relevant now in 2007 as it was in 1969.

  • saddest song ever, you made me cry doctor, good job, thnx

  • It really is a sad one isn't it? Maybe the most heartwrenching antiwar song I've heard. I'm glad you liked it. I see you are a big Kinks fan so that means alot.

  • This is very sad indeed, but relevant as hell. As long as politicians keep sending young people off to die, this will always be relevant. I guess this means for always. Politicians don't learn. This song gets me especially with the line "..but in his mother's eyes he looks the same." I got teary eyed just writing that line.

  • Yeah, I know what you mean. Look at what I wrote or "doctorcastille". Great song but very sad, always brings a lump to my throat, especially with the line I specified for "doctorcastille". It never fails, it always gets me.

  • Good job Doc, but what a saaaaadddd song....
