When you think how EA would go bankrupt if ppl would not buy any of their content with DRM on it, well, that's the solution right there. The real problem is people are too mindless to realize it and be part of the *real* solution. Money talks. Make EA lose money over this, they'll have no choice but to revert their ways. Same goes for any other company using DRM. It's why I boycott Sony.
I just got the game and Installed it without a hitch and when I go to the Autorun and hit play , It asks me for a Registration Code -I've looked in the Manuals on the Disc the readme's , NOTHING. Im just stuck here. Please someone point me in the right direction to get a code or another route alternatively. Thanks in advance (Sorry for the noobish like question.)
The Roms are made to suck more money out of the user. Just like sombody said", console games last only so long, so companies really make DRMs so they can force you to rebuy games you bought years ago because you used up you installation. Ea and companies like this are stealing from us. This is why I prefer Linux to windows. The only down side is if I want to play a high quality drm free game I have to make it myself for the most part. Steam will benefit from this but I don't like being forced
@wooka64 to use it and be on the Internet to play games. as fare as im concerned, Ea needs to change it ways or let me pay 5 bucks to rent their games. thats the only way I am willing to put up with it. 50 bucks should be worth at least worth 50 installs , but I wont be happy intell I own what I pay for. as far as im concerned, EA is breaking the law because it becoming a monopoly and last I check I thought that was illegal lol.
EA,DRM AND SECUROM is a spyware also they will sometimes wont function your anti virus. do not buy EA games they got virus, keyloggers and spywares that will harm your computer on there games! if you buy it thats your fault you will fall as a scam
1. If their DRM had viruses, there would have been a tremendous legal outroar.
2. If they had keyloggers in their DRM, it would be even worse then having a virus.
3. The DRM does have what people would call "spyware" but it's really just checking system specs and other stuff. Microsoft does it all the time so you're fucked on that aspect.
4. Now before repeating things of what you read on the internet like a moron, try and think that maybe they might just be exagerated...
It's funny how people who actually bought the game have more problems than with pirated one. No wonder PC market is in recession - they treat end users like criminals.
i know, recently the market has been swinging towards console bitches, alot of franchises have been dumbed down to play on consoles (ie bioshock is dumbed version of system shock 2) and alot of review places only review games on consoles even when they are MEANT for pc! like the orange box.
Only gaming companies that care anymore are valve and blizzard.
I know what you mean man The companies want to fucking kill us off! even mircosoft with bungie has Fucked over the pc! Halo 3 if was on the pc, it probably would of Sold more copies. That stupid halo wars game, that is a genre of game that you only see on the pc! Companies Want to kill the avid pc gamer because we are not as profitable as the Console bitches, our pcs can out last the life spawn of the consoles and still play the new games. THEY HATE FUCKING HATE US!
its really only in america that consoles are a majority, in places like europe and asia you see a lot more pc gamers. i guess most console gamers are too dumb to figure out how to install a game. and they alway use the excues that pc is too expensive when most of them have plasma screen tvs and like 500 games and 4 xboxs in their room. i costom built my pc for 600$ and i can play team fortress 2 online full settings with no lag, and crysis on ALMOST full settings.
yes if these fuck head had half a brain cell they would Probably stop arguing price THese fuck heads think you can buy a gaming computer from best buy! most think that People use laptops to game! One morron i fought with thought that i gamed by using a 13 inch moniter ! One morron thought that Consoles had hd graphics only! I am waiting for one dipshit to reply using a mouse and keyboard is too hard for a fps or racing game!
I instlled red alert 3( which also has securom), later I uninstalled it becauise of graphics problems. Then I buy medieval total war 2 and securom dosn/t let me install it !!! even though uts a real game not a pirated one !!!!!!
securerom and DRM is complete, utter, BS. We paid money to own the game and have fun playing it, not to have to deal with this DRM crap. And don't even get me started with trying to run this game without having it crash every 5 minutes.
I'm disappointed in the support, devs and testers of Mass Effect, cuz from what i've heard it's a GREAT game...but only when it works.
...which is never. save yourself the time and money.
I believe i have found a way to get past DRM. When you insert the game just close the little pop up thing asking if you can install it. Go into "my computer--> your cd drive ( should have a mass effect icon )" right click and press explore. Highlight all of the contents and press copy. Create a folder to put it in such as "Mass effect (test)" and paste the contents within the folder. If the file just so happens to be compressed zip download winrar and extract it to you test file.
then look for the file that has a mass effect icon and click on it you should be able to play it. it worked for my need for speed most wanted game ( i lost the activation key ). let me no if this works.___________P.S Screw DRM
The "Oh you're only allowed three installs ever." thing is fucking retarded. Why do they care so much about someone installing a game on another PC? Honestly, who actually DOES that? The CD-key system alone worked well enough. Once someone asked for my Diablo II CD-key and I simply said No. What the fuck was wrong with that system? Hell, they might as well implement this system in DVD movies now too. Can't have someone watching a DVD on a friend's "unregistered" DVD player now can we?
Wow seeing this as I bought a copy of this game makes me realise that Bioware lied on their forums they said all you had to do is phone EA up and they will give you 3 more activations.
I really hope that Extreme Assholes (EA) get targeted by every pirate on the planet for doing this to legal consumers.
The Extreme Assholes are being targeted Spore is the most pirated game In history! any game with drm is Pirated for the challenge of getting rid of drm!
yep i crack my games for the no-cd patches but I would still not buy an EA or Securom game. Buying then cracking their games still puts money in their pockets and encourages them to continue using Securom and acting the way they do. hit them where it hurts and don't buy their games. Period.
This is the most retarded thing ever. Thank you EA for buying nearly every single gaming company, and then do this. People who actally are downlading cracked vertions of DRM games arent the real pirates, EA are to actually force us to buy a new copy of a game when you have used your 3 installs. It should be enought to buy the game once. Since you bought it you should have all rights, and do whatever you want to do with it. Now its like your're buying only a part of the rights. If thats the case
i loved this game got the rip from some one dont remeber who but game was small down to the point and verry entertaining and i never had this problem :P
I've wasted my money today, I have my Internet connection, I have a fast machine with all the extra fancy cores and graphics bits and what does it complain about? The fucking DVD RW, apparntly they think i'm not wanting to actually play my game but copy it, crack it and distribute it across the internet to people iv'e never met, when I could be playing the game.
Fuck EA and Fuck anyone who's been paid to say this is a good idea.
Been swallowed up by the great Leviathan huh, that's a shame, on another note my copies started working after a few days, seems it wasn't the Disk Drive after all, still there's no explanation as to why it didn't work, very annoying.
I'm also wondering about game magazines and reviewers. Why don't they discuss the state of bad DRM in their articles and reviews? If a game is hampered by bugs and tech problems that essentially make a game unplayable or frustrating then that affects its ratings accordingly. Bad and restrictive DRM absolutely the same effects as a bug (or virus) and should be treated as such.
If they want to treat me like a criminal, then I'll do it without giving them money. As I said before, I have no sympathy for publishers who infect their $50 games with what is basically a virus. DRM does not work. Protecting your investment is important, yes, but not at the expense of your customers. Valve and Stardock get it, either make the DRM transparent or (gasp!) don't even include it at all! Also, give the customer benefits, not punishment for paying.
I don't know about Spore (since it downloads content online), but if you use up your activations, couldn't you just replace the exe with a cracked one? If the DRM is in the game exe, then a cracked one will let you bypass that nonsense altogether.
Piracy may be wrong, but charging $50 for a "rental" is worse. I have no sympathy for publishers who treat their customers like criminals because they actually bought their game. Isn't pissing off your customers a bad business model?
I actually could "Buy and Crack" but it's not worth it. Bioshock, Mass Effect, World in Conflict, etc. are all SecuROM 'protected' games but I have drawn the line. Even though I REALLY wanted to play these games I have decided to boycott any games with this DRM (even with cracks available). Anyway, i dont HAVE to get these games...worst case is I just have to step outside into the real world. Sorry EA, and other companies, I'm spending my money elsewhere
Mass effect's DRM give you 3 lifetime installations, EVER!! ok so how will this fight piracy? Either I buy the game and am limited to 3 lifetime installations or i go pirate and download/copy and install it whenever, where ever, and as many times as I like... I will NOT buy the game because of the hassle and if I ever pirate the game (I won't), EA has lost a sale regardless. smart people workin at that there company.
It's the same crap as bioshock. When will they ever learn. I sure as hell not buying this game.
3 lifetime installs = pirate or no buy for me.
And this is supposed to stop piracy how? Hell, this just encourages it!
For those who say "Buy n' crack", think of the message you are sending to the publishers. Basically you're telling them that you're both ok with the DRM and are a pirate at the same time!
"This makes no sense. This is just incomprehensible. What kind of retarded, untraceable trail of logic arrived at the conclusion that giving paying customers a limited number of installs would stop people who just DOWNLOAD the game? What the hell kind of idiots thought this up, and why are they still working in games?"
thanks for posting. I really was interested in this game but after finding out in forums and your Youtube post about Securom and DRM I'm just going to pass on this game.
In case you can't read the error I get when I run it, it says: "The game can not start. For security reasons, only a limited number of machines can ever be licensed by a single purchase. This limit has been reached. Please purchase another registration code, reinstall, and then try again."
@riftguy so if i just bough mass effect and didn't know that i had only 3 machines to install it on, and i installed it on 2 already, but took them off, to see if it would work then i only have 1 instalation left? Let me knoe please. As well as ways to counter this, if it is possible.
This is what happens when I try to run Mass Effect. They say you get to install it on three machines, but it's false. If you re-install Windows (to try to fix why the game isn't working) or upgrade hardware (for me a video card and a case fan) then it burns up the activations.
So after playing for two days I'm being treated like a criminal and having to beg EA to let me play.
DON'T BUY THIS GAME UNLESS THEY GET RID OF THIS CRAP. Wait for Force Unleashed or go pick up a copy of KOTOR instead.
Download a pirate copy, microwave your game disk, break into small pieces and mail them back to EA Games with an angry letter.
F*ck this limited install BS. PC gamers upgrade their hardware all the time, and everyone knows windows needs to be wiped every once in a while. Just installing a new videocard will eat up one of your installs.
I AM A CUSTOMER, NOT A CRIMINAL! WTF ARE THESE RETARDS THINKING!!!
i love how pirated games are easier to install and have no drm on them... its just a hassle for the paying customers -.-
