@zinnington I agree strongly with TristramTrio here. There are plenty of innovative cats getting around these days, and there were a lot of bad, but popular musicians around before. And I think that the fact that jazz isn't as mainstream, means that there is potentially, a greater quality rather than quantity of jazz musicians. Being a jazz musician isn't attatched to fame or money necessarily, so most of the jazz musicians do what they do because they love jazz, not for the money or anything...
Gaga to the people that were actually big in those days, and you will see that they were just as bad. The only "devolutionizing" you could consider true is hip hop, but that has a completely different socio-political significance, and dance music, where the music was never the point.
Please, please, please. I never get into arguments on YouTube, but I've encountered this far too many times. Please, please, please, STOP whining about how the old times were better than today and how today's pop music is devolutionising and herpty derp de derp.
First of all, go listen to some Ben Monder, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Brad Mehldau or Aaron Parks (I intentionally listed 2 guitarists and 2 pianists to compare with Pass and Peterson). All 4 of them are incredible musicians. Also, compare Lady
You will not see cats like this again. The morons out there thinking Lady Gaga has talent would destroy them. All you needed here was Kerouack doing his poetry on top of this. We really do live in a time where what came before is way better. We are devolutionizing. Hell of a shame
can a man show more heart and more ambition and more love for an instrument, for music itself than count basey? just look at how he enjoys it, how every part of his body is just ment to play this,
Gould and Peterson, obviously the upper echleon of all things musical and Candadian share the same passion for intellectual curiousity, they were smart, hard working, and fun loving guys. Although I would regard Gould as more of a liberal than Peterson. They also eerily have the same speech timbre and phrasing. Maybe greatness is all in the language of you, but both have the own distinctness.
It seems like Joe is such a humble/shy guy. I think it would be cool to have had a cup of coffee with Joe. Oscar seems to be comfortable on tv but Joe is a lil camera shy...
Just complete comfort and understanding of his domain. I don't think it's something Canadian. I'm second generation Canadian, but I'll have my say. Maybe being in a very open and kind environment helped OP and Glenn Gould with their openness about their thoughts.

There is something about Oscar Peterson's way of talking that reminds me of Glenn Gould. Is it something Canadian?

there is where he was born!

Don't take my word for it though ! :)

I mean the actual timber of his voice. I feel there is some similarity between Peterson and Gould.

OH.
Then, maybe ! I'm going to have to agree with you. Maybe it is something Canadian then.
