The statue was of little relevence in the overall hierarchy of the show. Like the heiroglyphics, it was shown to show the viewer that The Island had a rich history before The Black Rock, DHARMA and Oceanic 815. Possibly even before Jacob took over as the protector.
It's been said that the markings on the "cork" rock that plugged the Source were around 5000 years old, and Jacob took over around 2000 years ago. So The Island had a history even before Jacob took over.
@nsoltysiak there were more ships because when jacob and the man in black were on the beach the boat was not far off shore. The black rock came in a storm that destroyed the statue. so many many people visited the island and were candidates but the same thing played out time and time agian the mib eventualy killed all the people or they killed eachother but the man in black could never succeed in killing jacob.
I don't believe that MIB is the bad guy and Jacob is the good guy. I think they've made it too obvious for Lost and the audience are just supposed to think that the two are completely opposed.
@bartolomeo121212 this video was uploaded one year ago, right after the end of the 5th season, so it was an interesting and valid theory then. Now it looks obvious :-)
''prove me wrong''....ep 9 in season 6 explained it =D...spoiler* ..jacob wants to prove to smokey/MIB that ppl dont sin naturally ...mib thinks that evil is in everyone and jacob wants to prove him wrong
Why did the smoke monster need Ben to kill Jacob? Why didn't Jacob fight back? He seemed to know it was coming. Oh and on a side note, could the two bodies Jack found at the caves be Rose and Bernard cause it never said?
however, something thats boggling me....Why would jacob choose john locke to go on the island?
why would he do that, possibly knowing that it would lead to his death?
then again, jacob didnt really put up a fight when ol' ben was stabbing him. he sorta, resigned himself to defeat, didnt he? gotta be somehting in that. like he knew it would happen.
everything you said I thought of that also. I also thought about the "mainly worlds interpretation", "Alternative realities" etc. and quite rightly so, there is an alternative time zone in which the plane doesnt crash .... took me a little longer (few months later) to realize that 1977 plot would merge with the 2007 plot i.e. "theyre coming", and for an alternate reality. theres alot of quantum physics involved.

Black and white shirt certainly connect to the black and white Backgammon stones, dream Locke showed to Walt during early season one. plus that was day time, jacob was outside basking in the sunlight on the beach. when he was killed it was dark, so jacob was inside having a cup of tea and biscuit, underneath the statue. it was too cold outside thats all :P lol.
The black monster reincarnates into the body of dead people (Christian, Eko's brother, Alex in Season 5, John Lock). He is gifted with the ability to see every event of the person he reincarnates. He is physically bounded by the Island.
Jacob on the other hand, can leave the island and has done so to convince people to come to it. Once Jacob is dead the black monster can take Jacob's body/soul and leave the island.

The smoke monster can only take the form of peoples bodies that are A:dead and B: on the island but not burried. They did not have to die on the island though.

true mate.... when you see flashbacks of jin laying in the water Rouseau is in a rescueboat that is way more modern that a pirateship... so she cant be from the black rock... and in an episode you also see them in the black rock finding dynamite... the only real truth can be richards ship since he doesnt grow old...
The identity of Flocke as the MiB is pretty well taken as fact in most of the fan community now, and the nature of his plan to acquire Locke's form over the past few seasons is well understood. To me, the real question remaining is the identity of "they" when Jacob says "they're coming." There's no evidence that it's the 1977 815ers, so it could also be Ilana and her group, or some as-yet unseen group...
I think MIB took over all DEAD BODYS from previous seasons ( alex, yemi, etc) to guide people in whatever what MIB wants. Finally, this leads up to HIM PERMANENTLY becoming locke (or flocke) which is why flocke is inconstitant with all other incounters with dead people on the island: this time there still is a dead body and a flocke. this maybe means its the final body transfer?
when he says " you have no idea what ive gon throught" i dont think it just means taking over john`s body BUT. i think from when jack saw his dead father to the time ben saw her dead daughter was what he was talking about, so in a way he took control of all of those bodies to influence the decitions of what lead to ben killing jacob.
I bet Jacob tried to kill otherDude, but since they both seem to draw power from the island (like the things that healed Jacob and Rose, and could thus heal otherDude), Jacob thought the only way to kill otherDude completely would be to burn him to ashes. Unfortunately, otherDude was so good at harnessing the power of the island, even in the form of ashes, he couldn't be killed, and we got a Star Wars moment of" If you strike me down, yada yada yada." When otherDude burnt Jacob, it was payback.
This is one of the dullest videos I've ever seen. No revelations... just summed up the obvious from the episode. Next time you get the urge to "Explain" something do yourself a favor... don't.
I noticed that it's all the dead characters who have been pushing folks towards killing Jacob.
Christian Shepherd was the one who helped the living John Locke get off the island. Alex appeared to Ben and said he had to do whatever john Locke said for him to do (John asked ben to kill Jacob). It was the John Locke who had risen from the dead that asked Richard Alpert to help the living John Locke with a bullet wound and tell him he had to leave the island and that he had to die.
Actually i'm italian, and in the italian translation and dubbing that "WE'RE going to find a loophole" is translated in "Troverò il modo di farlo" that means "I'LL find the way to do it (do it=kill you=Jacob)..." ... who knows?! O.o
Maybe the "WE" is for the Others, as the fake John Locke is kinda the reincarnation of this Unknown man and the new leader of the Others, maybe in the past that man was the original leader.
I dunno i think mabey JACOB and the other guy arn't against each other but they are trieng to find the LOOPHOLE to their problum wich is unknown....K mabey not
This is just off the top of my head..... What if the loophole wasn't to kill Jacob? What if they are different things concerning some other weird twist LOST decides to pull? And one more thing in The Incident Miles says that what if the bomb IS the Incident? And Finally what if everything in the past happened and the Bomb blew the rest of the statue off?
in season 1 they find 2 dead people in the caves... and all they had in there pocket was a bag with a white stone and a black stone in it.... i wonder if this or walts importantness 2 the others will be explained in season 6
How did you think the Black Rock was Rousseaus ship when they showed her and her team arrive on the island on that Octagon shaped life boat in season 5?
not screw up the whole plan by trying to kill Locke (or the smoke monster as we assume) so he can pretend to be the leader of the others, lead them to Jacob under the guise of wanting to thank him, and have ben, the ultimate pawn of the series, do his dirty bidding by killing Jacob, who seemed to want Ben to stab him.
I think the smoke monster even brought Rousseau, her team, and Jin to the island just so Jin could prevent Rousseau from going under the temple when her friend got pulled underneath it. This way Alex is born safely, and the Monster can prey on Ben's insecurity of never being loved by his dad or having a mom, so he steals Alex and doesn't kill her so he can be the father his dad never was.
The smoke monster knows this, waits for her death from Keamy, so he can impersonate her, convince ben to
The ending was in fact, self-evident. The smoke monster orchaestrated the entire series events. Fromt he beginning when he comes to Ben as his mother to show him that the island is special, all the way to pretending to be Locke so he could prey on Ben's insecurities of not being special or having something wrong with him, since Locke was able to see Jacob as soon as he wanted.
This is not even a theory. You're just pointing out that Locke is not Locke, that he's the guy wearing black. I thought ghat was self explanatory. It didn't seem like a secret.
Although im sure it helps those who went "wait, I don't get it". But if they are not that into Lost to get it, then they would not be online looking up Lost theories would they. So I guess only people who watch this are people who got or right away ;(
I agree with almost everything. The guys from 1977 don't come back until a third of the way through season 6 (producers said it). I think they may figure out a way to use the Orchid station's time machine (not the wheel but the the one Locke sees a video about) to come back to the present. Just my thoughts.
the main trailer for season 6 shows a battle of light and dark, specifically the black and white backgammon pieces. Jacob and the other guy are wearing white and black robes... Jacob=good guy
but it does seem believeable right? I mean almost every theory is getting easier and easier to prove with all the facts, there are only 13 more episodes to prove any of it. Like for sure the other guy is the smoke monster incarnate
well obversely esau is smoky, that's already been explained. but to assume that, just because of that, and because he is waring black, that he is the "bad guy" is just to obvious, it's cliche and predictable, and when have you ever known lost to be cliche and predictable. Carlton and Damon like to play on what what people assume, what people think thy know based on how stories are normally told (but lost is not a normal story).
That's why the locke twist works so well. people assume that locke is the chosen one because that's how stories go, so we never stop for a second to think that maybe isn't special, and when he gets resurrected we never stop for a second to think that it might not really be him, evan though he acts completely different (which Richard evan points out) we already know that there's a smoke monster on the island that can take the form of the dead bodes on the island.
the twist is practically spelled out to us in dead is dead.
It's the same with the flash forward twist, we all assume it's a flashback because it's always a flashback right? there plying on what people assume (what brilliantly genius writers they are).
thanks, and sorry for waffling on for so long that i've had to spread this over three posts lol, cant wait till season 6.
Keep this in mind - Ok - Ready? - Really ready? - Jacob was eating a "red herring' on the beach. In other words, Jacob was just a McGuffin (usable plottwist). He existed only to tell the viewing audience that "They are coming". A few have been here all along, existing right under our noses. The rest are on their way. Just one can wipe out an entire military squadron before they could even cry for their mamas. Everyday people will just die of fright or go insane. This is the end! Check!
Im tying to comprehend how viewers could be so stupid not to see this is not a THEORY--BUT what the script was written to show very clearly with absolutely no ambiguity .
This is like saying.... I have a theory. Kates name is Kate. I have a theory....Darth Vader was Lukes father...you see...when he said he was his father...I thought to myself...maybe Vader is Lukes father.
People need to examine their comprehension skills. Are we this dumbed down today that we see conclusions as mysteries?
i think a lot of ppl knew this one, BUT, what is rlly important figuring out right now is which one of them is good and what is jacob's plan, cuz he clearly induced ben to stab him, and since hes all powerful and all he must have a plan....and a good one too...
There are so many possibilities. Im not entirely about this one but im just going to throw it out there: what if jacob is bad and the dark guy is good. It would contradict white being good and dark being bad, but wasnt smokey a security system? The ash around the cabin was to confine jacob, maybe because he is bad? Or maybe the ash was to protect him? My head is going to EXPLODE, AHHH!!
I think that the man in black was the one confined to the cabin. He could have just referred to himself as Jacob to certain people (remember that Ben never actually saw Jacob, but supposedly took orders from him). This way he could build up the hate inside Ben in order for him to stab the real Jacob. That's my 2-cents anyways...
The reason he can't kill Jacob himself is because the smoke monster judges people and can only kill those who have done wrong and don't repent (Eko).
A lot of this needs fixing. And he does NOT say "We're going to find a loophole." He just doesn't enunciate well so it comes out "One of these days, 'm going to find a loophole." It's clearly meant to be "I'm", and we see this again when Jacob says "Well, you've found your loophole", and Man2 says "Indeed I did."
it makes PERFECT sense. How can't you see that? the smoke monster takes the form of people (ie. Walt, Yemi, Alex, Locke). The man in black says he's going to find a loop hole, and years later, the smoke monster in the form of Locke said he found the loophole.
Not to mention when Ben went to get judged by the smoke monster, Locke knew exactly where to find the smoke monster (because he was). After the smoke monster judged Ben, it took the shape of Alex and told Ben to follow Locke's every word.
But what about the ded peps that appear off island (charlie)... only to hugo i think .... the smoke monster only lives in the island so he couldn appear off island...... then who is the one that can manifest itself off-island........also jacob only appears to live on the shore i think since.... and the monster only manifest within the island so it appears that it cant go to the shore its off limits to him.... but still we have seen ded peps near the shore or even in the shore (jack´s father)
it's relevant indeed. what's odd is that smokey judges people (so there's a moral notion) and wants to kill jacob, the good one ? is it that obvious that smokey is the antijacob ?
I think that Jhon is still dead and its that one guy who wants to kill jacub is like a god of the island and is (for some reason not aloud to kill Jacub so he gets Ben to, by desguising him self as Locke somehow, BTW I have not read the discription
why do people keep saying its an egyptian slave ship, its already been said the ship set sale from Pourtsmouth in England in the episode that widmore bought the painting and book
the actor who plays richard just has dark eyelashes, not part of the plot!
Also, if you've seen 'the 12 monkeys', that would say they cant change history at all and they die right there when the bomb goes off and it does not cause a loop.
Thats what i've been saying so there all dead now but, you've got to know that Jack not being near the plane wreck is a major plot thing to Lost so take that into consideration, I know that for a fact
No I Happen to be watching the first episode on youtube for some reason, and looked at the comments, a whole bunch of people where saying that, Jack being away from the plane is a major plot detail/thing, and the creators said so them selfs, but I have no clue where
someone already stated about Jacob and Esau from the bible, but I thought I'd add a bit. Jacob was loved by god and favored. I find it interesting that in the "brain-washing videos" that the others were using it said "god loves you as he did jacob" also, in this bible story, Jacob had a son named benjamin, who's mother died in childbirth( happened to Ben Linus). Also, Esau wanted to kill Jacob. This is also portrayed in the show. And, to escape famine, jacob moved his family to Egypt... Weird!
If the body isn't buried, they smoke monster can take their form. When Sawyer rescued Ethan's mom from the hostiles, she said to burry them. Ben's daughter wasn't buried and monster took her form. Christian (Jack's dad) body wasn't buried and you see him running around. Since John Body wasn't burried on the island, the shadow creature took his form.
And the reason john wants jacob dead but let
Ben do it is cause mib can't
Kill jacob so john is mib

true mate.... when you see flashbacks of jin laying in the water Rouseau is in a rescueboat that is way more modern that a pirateship... so she cant be from the black rock... and in an episode you also see them in the black rock finding dynamite... the only real truth can be richards ship since he doesnt grow old...

The identity of Flocke as the MiB is pretty well taken as fact in most of the fan community now, and the nature of his plan to acquire Locke's form over the past few seasons is well understood. To me, the real question remaining is the identity of "they" when Jacob says "they're coming." There's no evidence that it's the 1977 815ers, so it could also be Ilana and her group, or some as-yet unseen group...

how u gonna explain?
do you even watch the show?
the black rock was NOT rousseaau's boat,it was a ship that came to the island sometime in the 1800s.
rousseaau came on a smaller boat in 1988.

I think MIB took over all DEAD BODYS from previous seasons ( alex, yemi, etc) to guide people in whatever what MIB wants. Finally, this leads up to HIM PERMANENTLY becoming locke (or flocke) which is why flocke is inconstitant with all other incounters with dead people on the island: this time there still is a dead body and a flocke. this maybe means its the final body transfer?
kelg93 2 years ago
In season 1 we see Jack opening his father's coffin and there's no body inside...and we see Christian going around during all the seasons.
In season 2 in the episode when Eko dies, he says that his brother is not inside the plane...then we see Yemi.
In The Incident part 2 the 'good guys' find Locke's corpse, but at the same time there's this fake Locke as well. How about this?
PhoenixFonta 2 years ago
it's cause the MIB didn't have time to discard the body, he had to do what he did then and now.
like telling richard where the real locke was going to time shift to so he could be there and give him the compass and tell him he had to die.

he doesn't say "we're going to find a loophole"
he says "I'm going to find a loophole"
I watched this on the DVD few times to make sure, paying attention to the audio, and he says "I'm".
The subtitles say "I'm" too.

exactly and jacob replies,"well when you do I'll be right here".
i think crikmaster needs to watch the whole show again attentively to avoid
so many major errors!

when he says " you have no idea what ive gon throught" i dont think it just means taking over john`s body BUT. i think from when jack saw his dead father to the time ben saw her dead daughter was what he was talking about, so in a way he took control of all of those bodies to influence the decitions of what lead to ben killing jacob.
tell me what you think.

Actually i'm italian, and in the italian translation and dubbing that "WE'RE going to find a loophole" is translated in "Troverò il modo di farlo" that means "I'LL find the way to do it (do it=kill you=Jacob)..." ... who knows?! O.o
DanCortex 2 years ago
Maybe the "WE" is for the Others, as the fake John Locke is kinda the reincarnation of this Unknown man and the new leader of the Others, maybe in the past that man was the original leader.
DanCortex 2 years ago
don't think so, as the others follow jacob and they were following locke only because they thought he was actually locke, not the man in black.

How did you think the Black Rock was Rousseaus ship when they showed her and her team arrive on the island on that Octagon shaped life boat in season 5?
tittyslapper7 2 years ago 2
not screw up the whole plan by trying to kill Locke (or the smoke monster as we assume) so he can pretend to be the leader of the others, lead them to Jacob under the guise of wanting to thank him, and have ben, the ultimate pawn of the series, do his dirty bidding by killing Jacob, who seemed to want Ben to stab him.
tittyslapper7 2 years ago
I think the smoke monster even brought Rousseau, her team, and Jin to the island just so Jin could prevent Rousseau from going under the temple when her friend got pulled underneath it. This way Alex is born safely, and the Monster can prey on Ben's insecurity of never being loved by his dad or having a mom, so he steals Alex and doesn't kill her so he can be the father his dad never was.
The smoke monster knows this, waits for her death from Keamy, so he can impersonate her, convince ben to
tittyslapper7 2 years ago
The ending was in fact, self-evident. The smoke monster orchaestrated the entire series events. Fromt he beginning when he comes to Ben as his mother to show him that the island is special, all the way to pretending to be Locke so he could prey on Ben's insecurities of not being special or having something wrong with him, since Locke was able to see Jacob as soon as he wanted.
tittyslapper7 2 years ago
This is not even a theory. You're just pointing out that Locke is not Locke, that he's the guy wearing black. I thought ghat was self explanatory. It didn't seem like a secret.
Although im sure it helps those who went "wait, I don't get it". But if they are not that into Lost to get it, then they would not be online looking up Lost theories would they. So I guess only people who watch this are people who got or right away ;(

I think the man in black is Peter Petrelli. I also think that he killed Laura Palmer AND that he is Luke's father.
By the way: 4 8 15 16 23 42 weren't those the days? when these numbers apparently meant something- But you know... didn't?
Sorry, I've watched too many LOST theory videos today... ;-)
TwoToGo 2 years ago
I agree with almost everything. The guys from 1977 don't come back until a third of the way through season 6 (producers said it). I think they may figure out a way to use the Orchid station's time machine (not the wheel but the the one Locke sees a video about) to come back to the present. Just my thoughts.

That's what they want you to think. lost twists always play on what you think you know.
JackMoranRain 2 years ago
but it does seem believeable right? I mean almost every theory is getting easier and easier to prove with all the facts, there are only 13 more episodes to prove any of it. Like for sure the other guy is the smoke monster incarnate
GohexxxtheWolf 2 years ago
well obversely esau is smoky, that's already been explained. but to assume that, just because of that, and because he is waring black, that he is the "bad guy" is just to obvious, it's cliche and predictable, and when have you ever known lost to be cliche and predictable. Carlton and Damon like to play on what what people assume, what people think thy know based on how stories are normally told (but lost is not a normal story).
JackMoranRain 2 years ago
That's why the locke twist works so well. people assume that locke is the chosen one because that's how stories go, so we never stop for a second to think that maybe isn't special, and when he gets resurrected we never stop for a second to think that it might not really be him, evan though he acts completely different (which Richard evan points out) we already know that there's a smoke monster on the island that can take the form of the dead bodes on the island.
JackMoranRain 2 years ago
the twist is practically spelled out to us in dead is dead.
It's the same with the flash forward twist, we all assume it's a flashback because it's always a flashback right? there plying on what people assume (what brilliantly genius writers they are).
thanks, and sorry for waffling on for so long that i've had to spread this over three posts lol, cant wait till season 6.
oh and there are 18 episodes left not 13.
JackMoranRain 2 years ago
I had already thought this after I watched it. I thought it was self-evident.

Check!
coleisone 2 years ago
he wasn't eating a red herring because such a thing doesn't exist physically. it didn't even look like a normal herring in shape.

Rizzy55 2 years ago
i think a lot of ppl knew this one, BUT, what is rlly important figuring out right now is which one of them is good and what is jacob's plan, cuz he clearly induced ben to stab him, and since hes all powerful and all he must have a plan....and a good one too...
parrudo77 2 years ago
There are so many possibilities. Im not entirely about this one but im just going to throw it out there: what if jacob is bad and the dark guy is good. It would contradict white being good and dark being bad, but wasnt smokey a security system? The ash around the cabin was to confine jacob, maybe because he is bad? Or maybe the ash was to protect him? My head is going to EXPLODE, AHHH!!
BlueSasquatch2 2 years ago
I think that the man in black was the one confined to the cabin. He could have just referred to himself as Jacob to certain people (remember that Ben never actually saw Jacob, but supposedly took orders from him). This way he could build up the hate inside Ben in order for him to stab the real Jacob. That's my 2-cents anyways...
gloc0005 2 years ago
that is a pretty good theory. We will just have to wait until next year....

The reason he can't kill Jacob himself is because the smoke monster judges people and can only kill those who have done wrong and don't repent (Eko).
----> But what about the pilot?
myheartisyourestone 2 years ago
Yeah, I think he says Im going to find a loophole.
not we.
myheartisyourestone 2 years ago
A lot of this needs fixing. And he does NOT say "We're going to find a loophole." He just doesn't enunciate well so it comes out "One of these days, 'm going to find a loophole." It's clearly meant to be "I'm", and we see this again when Jacob says "Well, you've found your loophole", and Man2 says "Indeed I did."
robinsmad 2 years ago

Jacob seems very relaxed when the man says im going to find a loophole to get jacob
Ekul876 2 years ago
It is OBVIOUS that the man in black is the smoke monster. Who HONESTLY couldn't figure that out?
The reason he can't kill Jacob himself is because the smoke monster judges people and can only kill those who have done wrong and don't repent (Eko).
Jacob is good, and has done nothing wrong, so the smoke monster can't kill him. That is why he needs someone else to do it for him.
monetlikeskies 2 years ago 2
i dont think he is the smoke monster because it doesnt make sence
Ekul876 2 years ago
it makes PERFECT sense.

But what about the ded peps that appear off island (charlie)... only to hugo i think .... the smoke monster only lives in the island so he couldn appear off island...... then who is the one that can manifest itself off-island........also jacob only appears to live on the shore i think since.... and the monster only manifest within the island so it appears that it cant go to the shore its off limits to him.... but still we have seen ded peps near the shore or even in the shore (jack´s father)

someone already stated about Jacob and Esau from the bible, but I thought I'd add a bit. Weird!
xLDFALCONx 2 years ago 2
If the body isn't buried, they smoke monster can take their form. When Sawyer rescued Ethan's mom from the hostiles, she said to burry them. Ben's daughter wasn't buried and monster took her form. Christian (Jack's dad) body wasn't buried and you see him running around. Since John Body wasn't burried on the island, the shadow creature took his form.
