@hitman5806 Well, to be particular, there are 747 BBJs and even a private A380 or two, but it's still incredible that it's more expensive than a 737. Any idea why this is?
@hitman5806 - actually there are not only 737s (green) and Airbus' that cost more, but several private jets up to 747, 767 and the new Dreamliner and A388 double decker that cost way more. The new Gulstream G650 (flagship) will cost you more, too. It's all relative to how much you can spend. A prince in the mid East can afford the largest planes (which many own) which are all "private jets". Some Global Expresses from Bombardier cost more than a G550. Again, all relative to class of jets.
I can't speak for other jets, but all gulfstreams (depending on noise restrictions and runway length) will use flex EPR (reduced take off power). They have more than enough power for take off. Max power takeoffs are not necessary and hard on engines. I have ridden jump seat for a max EPR take off (after a GIV engine change) and it is uncomfortable for the man paying the bills in the back. None the less these Rolls Royce engines sound good. Hope this helps.
@halllee1000 Now, I did not know :-) TO: As far as I know it means a calculation of factors such as runway length, wind speed, temperature, and most importantly the weight of the aircraft. So there must be different take off powers.
@av8rdav According to the pilot which was in this plane it was not full power but even rocket t/o... :-) As far as I know it means a calculation of factors such as runway length, wind speed, temperature, and most importantly the weight of the aircraft. So there must be different take off powers.
@matthiashaenni Sorry but you are wrong, every pilot in the world uses max take-off power on ALL take-offs, period.
What you are mentioning: Wind speed (and direction by the way), temperature, weight and (you missed a big one there) density altitude, allows you to calculate the length of the runway you will need and the speeds you will use on that particular flight.
Trust me on that one Max take-off power on every take-offs !
@400LSPILOT Thanks dude for your info! I have changed the title of this clip according to the pilots words! I am not a pilot but an big aviation fan ;)
@400LSPILOT Cessnas.. sure. The vast majority of commercial airliners, and I'd presume business jets typically use a reduced, or FLEX thrust which reduces wear and tear on the engines.
@400LSPILOT So as a glider pilot, you know how every jet in the world works? You are horribly wrong saying all aircraft always use max takeoff power all the time. Some don't have numbers for it (Lears, for instance don't have published numbers for reduced power takeoffs). But many other aircraft do. As some other pilots here have mentioned, 737s, G550s, etc. I'm fairly certain Airbus and Bombardier have reduced power procedures as well.
@BenGaut I don't know why you talk about gliders, I have never set foot in one.
Now try to read carefully what I wrote in a previous answer !
"you use full take-off power, what the computer does to the engines is another story".
Throttle to max take-off power, the computer decides what to do depending on the conditions of that particular flight. So again, as for ALL THE PLANES IN THE WORLD you put the throttles to the TAKE-OFF position.
@400LSPILOT What are you talking about? As a G550 pilot I can tell you that Max take off power is rarely used.. On Contaminated runways, we always use rated which is the max power available for the day's conditions. Short runways when heavy or bad runways where getting airborne faster saves tyre and taxi light damage are other examples of Rated take off situations. Everything else is Flex where the engines are using much less than the max available.. Trust me, you are wrong!
@400LSPILOT TO: As far as I know it means a calculation of factors such as runway length, wind speed, temperature, and most importantly the weight of the aircraft. So there must be different take off powers?!
Talk about short take-off...damn it shot out of their like a bullet from its rifle

It's set up for a short-field takeoff, see the flaps and how the pilot hold the brake n let go for 5+secs ? :)

Why is it so expensive? Because it's a frigging Gulfstream.
