R188s are probably the next generation for the 7 line but that wont happen until R62s are gone. Thats not gona happen for at least another 20 years. Long way to go
an R188 is the next generation car class to arrive on the 7 line. Like the L route on the BMT, the 7 route will have it's dedicated car class fleet and it'll be equipeed with CBTC to allow greater train running flexibility and possible automated operation.
led signs are kinda pointless but believe me, the 7 line is good with what they have. so you'l be waiting for 15 or 20 years. R62s aint goin no where AT LEAST til 2025. u gota long way to go buddy.

Yup. I caught this sitting on one of the yard leads from a passing 7 train, and I got off at 111th, where put-ins from the yard enter service.

It's more expensive to install electronic signs on these cars, so these LED signs are a compromise.
If NTT's ever show up on the 7, then the problem would be solved anyway.
