shiiiiiiit!!!.. i'd get my ass fck so fast that I wouldn't even realize.., my legs are really, really strong..but i'm not so flexible..would I be able to learn tae?, im 21, i just want to be able to defend myself
Yes of course you can learn. You probably wont make it in international competing (but who knows you may be very talented), but nevertheless you can definatelly learn taekwondo in its traditional sense and self defence. You can work on improving flexibility (ok probably you wont be like her, but....), alter strength exercises and do lots of stretching (after proper warm up)!!! ^^
You are right, and she actually kicks (breaking the board), cause many girls do it as a demo using flexibility but they can not put strength to break a board!!
It is a sport in principle, but it has many different levels (be it a fighting based club, traditional based or a self-defence based club) but ALL clubs study self defence as a main criteria; it is part of the BTCB standard. Defending ones-self is the whole point; in fighting(you fight, in origin to defend), patterns(the practise of certain defensive sequences) and in pure self-defence.
It actually went quite well, Except for the combat part of my exam, I kinda need to get more aggressive... Otherwise, it went superb! I even got a special mension from my teacher (7th dan) about my poomsae, that not even he could do it better than I could.
A long time ago, you asked this question, this is the answer: There's probably no real reason, propably because back in the feudal ages, they'd wear similar clothing to do battles, and so the tradition just stayed there...
Might I suggest you train really seriously. I'm sure you aren't as bad as you compare yourself.... Just for the info, are you in a school, with belts and etc. or are you just an independent fighter? (If the 1rst, what belt are you at? I might be able to give you a few tips to help you progress!)
Infact there is more a diffrence to it than just that, WTF dont do sinwave or hiptwist, if you see a tul performed you will see the diffrence streight away. Just look at some videos 'round here
Ok WTF isn't legs only just strongly favors legs, and like TKD960 said, WTF is used in the olympics. Itf uses either point sparring or a form of continuous point sparring with only gloves and foot pads. They're just different styles, where WTF focuses a little more on speed kicks and ITF on power kicks but not really a very noticeable difference
As a practicioner of Tae Kwon-Do i don't like people slagging off a style. Especially my chosen style. These people have no respect for other people and wouldn't last one second in a Dojang with an instructor big on courtesy. As for the video, that girl is amazing especially shattering those bricks at the end. I wish i could kick like her :P.
Also, ITF and WTF are different 'styles' of TKD. WTF is olympic style Kicks only

there are styles which can punch bricks, or even headbutt bricks. but it's about efficiency in a fight.
when i see the girl kick the boards and bricks, i just see a person with great balance and skill.. being a great warrior is another thing

The last thing she had to break was bricks... O.o
I wonder what degree she is... She is great.

Tae Kwon Do is no where near crap. Especially since nobody expects you to use your feet in a fight. It's a great surprise.
Also that chick would kick ass, and I'd love to see it.

wuts the difference between WTF tkd and ITF tkd?
AznPr1des 5 years ago
WTF TKD is for tournaments, lots of sparring, and ITF TKD is training the techniques, and fighting invisible opponents or something...
Correct me if I'm wrong.

Please taekwondo is a SPORT not self defense everyone knows it. I suppose its better than knowing no martial arts at all for self defense.
