Spencer is misleading the audience. He's expressing the point of view of Muslim jurists of the 10th century, modern Muslim scholars don't share that view any more. The only Muslim groups who share that view are the Salafi (Orthodox) Muslims. Those are acutally a minority in Muslim world supported mainly by Saudi Arabia oil money.

I have to agree...while I know there are peaceful sects of Islam, the religion itself has teachings that are inherently evil and will always be used by a majority or at least the more violent and vocal group people claiming to be orthodox.
The only way around it is to have a religious reformation...but that will never be done because Sharia prohibits such a thing.

Some scholars think the verse in question should read something like "you will be greeted with a bowl of fresh grapes" still, to take a life as well as your own for grapes is fucked. First... the "72 Virgins" thing may be myth or may be fact. True, I have never read it in the Koran, but I have also only read about 1/3 of the Koran. Either way, its still an indication of a sick religion.
Second, I dont have the exact numbers, but I know that, over the last 20 years, there have been maybe 7 or 8 abortion bombings by "Christians." In that same time span, there have been WELL over 100 hi-jackings, 800 embassy bombings, and more "suicide" bombings that we can count by Muslims.

The "72 virgins" are more of a predicament that's assigned to believers in heaven. It doesn't state that there will be "72 virgins" but that the rewards you choose to be given to you may be just as great.
Any opened minded person doesn't judge the entire Muslim community over the actions of groups that indulge in the violence. Islam doesn't allow that violence and it's prohibited. Terrorists just use Jihad as the excuse and continue ranting about it without regard for the religious aspect.

The verses in the Quran aren't interpreted by only half of a verse, it completely changes the meaning. Give me the Chapter and verse and I will SURELY give you the correct translation. Muslims believe that the Quran is the word of God, but of course the definitions in Arabic can never be fully translated in English. It's the way of the Quran.
