im searching for obediance schools, and all i hear is how wrong everyone always is....im so confused i don't know which way to turn now. all i know is what i've done doesn't work
i agree.I have a 9month old golden retriever, he is lovable but if he gets on the sofa an we tell him to get down or if we are trying to take something off him we dnt want him to chew he gets aggressive, its hard to get him to listen to me when he growls an wants to snap at me as obviously its scary so i tend to back off. he's house trained an knows basic commands but he defin thinks he is leader of the pack,i think i'l have to go back to basics with him,not allow him to rule the roost.
Male Alpha dominance is totally true i have 4 Rottweillers and they are quite aggressive i used to think i was in charge but they became dangerous but now i have control in ALL situations they do everything they are told now and follow my lead
Oh dear as a behaviourist myself, you need to update yourself mate. The dog does not cross species in hierachy and following what you are saying does not put you as a pack leader. You need to study wild canids and wolves, the alpha male/female eat last if food is scarce! This pack leader stuff went out about 10 years ago - get upo to date
It's so exhausting having to listen to this dominance nonsense from so many people. Worse is trying to inform them about the flaws in their models - it is next to impossible. From this guy to Millan and that Canadian Millan wannabe Pattison, I get tired of having to correct their misconceptions
Stop being an ass he trys hard like me and many other people so give him a break and sence you know so much there's no reason to be watching in the first place
@kate5682 alpha pack leader stuff will never be out...it is always still apart of their DNA..curious to see your work...it is extrememly important to play a leadership role with your friend because it helps to make them feel at ease and comfortable...especially with certain aggressive cases..even if it derives from fear...it does not mean you have to be rough with the dog but having them see you as a leader that can take care of the situation as oppossed to them can be very soothing for the dog
My dog has no human aggression what so ever, but often shows dominance/aggression towards other dogs.. i only belived her aggression problem came from lack of socialisation with other dogs, she is very dominant to other bitches, and also to some males. Ignorant as i have been i have let her sit in the sofa, sleep in my bed and loots of other things that causes dominant behaviour. i really was so unaware that i caused this problem.
I need to watch it again...I do have additional questions, if your time should permit you to answer them again in the future. Also, if you would like to send this as a video response to my video, I'd be happy to link it. I think this should be viewed by all dog owners. :)

I agree Kate, this stuff is so out of date. Do some research mate. I'm so sick of hearing about 'dominance' and 'alpha' *yawn*
