Megane RS250, all day everyday. The interior is shabby, the looks awkward. If you want something fast, looks good and is reasonably cheap, theres nothing better. I promise!
Does the British fuel economy standards differ from the US epa estimates? Because I don't understand how 56.5 combined is even possible for a diesel with epa estimates for other cars.
People don't tend to like watching videos that are too long online, which is why people like Autocar are told to keep it short and simple, but I think 90 seconds is taking it a bit far. If you're searching for videos of cats, 30 seconds each video is too long and youll get bored, but if youre watching this youre probably a car nut and are willing to watch a bit more. Also remember, they don't have resources to make long top gear-esque videos, these are just extra content from mag reviews
"Feels leaden and nose heavy" what because of the weight of the engine? What's the weight difference? 25kg? I bet if you weighted the petrol down to the same weights he wouldn't notice the difference. Just the usual bullshit spouted everytime there's a diesel in there. New diesels are nowhere near as heavy as they used to be and certainly not a big enough difference in a car to notice.
@DriftDriver36 well, u probably have no experience at all as far as i can see....ive driven lots of cars in my life..including some super stuff like the new GTR....worked my whole life at VW/Audi.....and test drove some GTIs and GTDs....i would go for the GTD without even thinking twice....drive some...drive some more...and more...collect lots of experience...then say something...
I have yet to meet one Ford Focus, Fiesta, or Fusion owner who has not had a problem with the car within the 4 to 5 years time. I've talked with people who worked in rental agencies in Europe who tell me that between the Ford Fiesta and the Toyota Yaris, the Ford gave them the most problems. Its sad when American cars can't be more reliable than Korean cars. Something is rotten in Denmark!!!!
I saw one of these new shape focus' today and it was all I could do to stop myself chundering all over my steering wheel. They are so ugly compared to the previous generations, get a kia instead and spend the rest on sick bags.
looks ugly. nothing wrong with diesels trust me but problem with this car is that it's basically a pretty quick family hatchback with a silly bodykit.
The best Ford Focus in Europe gets over 65 Mi/USgal...and you cannot get one in the USA...at any price. Its not the Oil Companies keeping the high millage cars from US Highways and driveways; its Government Regulation.
And now Obama has screwed the pooch and killed jobs playing games with the Pipeline too, so now Canada will be building it with China. Sooo, Who's side is Obama on again? With 'Friends' like that, who needs Enemies? He needs to set on the bench. His Game is killing us.
@Bravo21 What regulations are keeping higher mileage car off US roads? US Air & Pollution regs are based on particulate counts not CO2 and Americans still aren't hip on Diesel. If Republicans weren't dead set on being Obama's enemies, he wouldn't have to rely on Enviros for support. In short, the pipeline is a, and not the only, problem Republicans made.
Diesel costs too much, President Obama is stuck working with a dysfunctional govt, and a President is not a Monarch.
@DocWolph Lol, Dont be a tool. Obama decided to play Politics to kiss the Enviro-Wacko ass and stop the Pipeline. No one made him. No one made them halt drilling in the Gulf either but they did. That is over 250,000 jobs + lower Energy Prices. You think all this obstruction is somehow the Republicans fault? Pull the other one..it has bells on. Or better yet, get a grip. Obama CHOSE to stop the Drilling and the Pipeline...Killing Jobs and driving up Energy Costs....It's all on him.
@DocWolph Sorry Doc but you are wrong. Obama has tried to push through many legislation which I consider radical and very "Progressive". He has made his own mess to sit in. I am no fan of the Republican party these days either but to say that him approving new greeny legislation to appease tree huggers just to get support is idiotic. Regulation has never helped the US. It has ruined the public school systems, made gas more expensive, driven up insurance costs, all these affect the 99%.
@flatblackstrat You have no understanding of what and why. You would childishly blame the rain on Obama if you could. Invoking the 99% does no entitle you to default blame the President for the nations ills. Regulation hasn't been the problem. The lack of responsibility and accountability has. If these people in Govt actually did what they were supposed to, you wouldn't need the regs, regardless of party. "Don't blame anyone, unless you are willing to blame everyone."
@DocWolph No I blame him for helping to make American into the Tyrannical anti-Republic that it is today, by renewing Bush policies like the Patriot Act, singing NDAA into law, pushing the new CAFE regulations through which will most definitively drive up car costs on an already sliding dollar, because of the Fed that he refuses to audit. Blindly giving away Tarp money, being the body guard of his 2 con men Ben Bernanke and Timothy Geithner. Not to mention the whole Obama care issue.
@flatblackstrat It's easy to pretend you weren't taken behind the shed and body-slammed. I sent you the private message and if you are too stupid to answer, that's your problem. I can't be held responsible for your inability to use "liberal" technology.
@DocWolph It's even easier to pretend you actually wrote something and then leave a comment about it just to save face. Body slam through air onto a pillow i guess. Still no PM from you, which is surprising since your response time on this little comment puts you at near troll levels of youtube activity. I can understand you keeping quiet since you have nothing to rebuttal with because your man in office has no integrity and his soul belongs to Wall Street, and is a backwards Robbin Hood.
@flatblackstrat Go ahead, pretend you didn't get the PM. YES. I sent one.
The Republican agenda is to replace Democracy with capitalism, period. With all their party does and done to exemplify "he with the money makes the rules", their fault for 2000 and 2008, $8T of $14T in debt, their refusal to own up for it, I call them Robber Barons and/or the minions of them.
@DocWolph We were never a democracy Doc, we were a "Republic", learn your history bud... big difference. And there is nothing wrong with capitalism, it would actually keep consumers safer since the end consumer would have the biggest say. However you are so blind that you cannot even see that what you just mention as being the motive of the republican party is what Obama has already done. Bank bailouts are know as corporatism, the rich had all the say and the poor got shafted.
@flatblackstrat To piss on the word Democracy, meaning "People Power", where the people have the say, not a King, ignores & insults the founding concept of America. A Republic, is a nation w/ a chief of state, a President, not a political system in itself. America is a Democratic Republic. Not the Republican lean to a Capitalist Republic.
Capitalism, over Democracy, as a political system is dangerous. Capitalism is an Economic system. "He with the money makes the rules."
@flatblackstrat Don't tell someone to "learn their history". You don't even know America is a Democratic Republic, what that means, why Republicans economic policies has failed at every turn, and why Democrats have always been the ones to fix it, even if it has to take 10+years.
The only reason why we persist in this diatribe is you feel so small, you just have to win. I've been polite, to a near fault. I'd quit if you'd "put you gun away".
@DocWolph You don't know the meaning of democracy, as in majority rule. Meaning if 51 percent vote 1 way the other 49 get screwed. A republic follows a written constituion and protects the rights of everyone under that constitution while a Democracy is run by a majoirty only, whether that majority infringes on that individuals rights or not it is OK because it is a democracy. America is a Republic, it was never a democracy. Capitalism is not a politic system you fool, that's corporatism.
@flatblackstrat Remember you came to me looking for a fight, child. You can be as foolishly contrarian as you like, continually showing a gross lack of understanding and actual education by your own words. But whatever, you may have your bone so you can crawl back under your rock. Also, next time wear your "brown shirt", it'll complete the image.
@DocWolph A fight? We're on youtube! If this is a fight to you than you are the child here. I looked at it more as an opportunity to reeducate someone who is completely blind an oblivious to what is going on in the world. Yet you put all your trust in a man with a flawed philosophy of the world, he believes in NAFTA, NDAA, Patriot Act, preemptive war, bad foreign policy, bad monetary policy, FIAT currency. I just make you look like a pathetic old man.
@Bravo21 Actually, the European Ford Focus wouldn't get near the 65 mpg figure when run on the U.S. test loop. Euro figures are WAY different than our EPA mileage figures so they unfortunately aren't comparable....though they are labeled the same way. The Smart FourTwo for example achieves between 56-86 mpg in Euro testing (depending on engine) but in the U.S. returns about 41-ish with the 1.0L. Comparisons have to be apples to apples otherwise its very misleading.
@2003SCT No actually, the difference the US and Imp. Gallon. There is no difference in the testing at all, and a Mile is a Mile...tho I prefer Ltr/Gal. The Imp. Gallon is about 20% larger than the US Gallon. There are presently about a Dozen FORD models that get over 40US/Mpg that you cannot get here...and you cannot get the new high Millage FORD diesel's here for any price.
The Smart was a joke from the beginning, its millage sucked here and in Europe. Citroen C1 is better by far
@Bravo21 The USG/IMP Gallon is ONE of the differences however Euro cycle and EPA are NOT the same tests. Hell, US EPA Cycle pre-2006 is different than in 2008 and that's comparing between the EPA and itself. (They updated pre-2006 models with an assumptive correction factor to help comparability on this). The fact that the Smart is a joke or sucks doesn't matter, a 1.0L U.S. EPA rated Smart achieves 41 mpg and a 1.0L EURO rated Smart achieves 57 mpg which is more than a 20% difference.
@Bravo21 I wish we had many of the tiny diesel-motored cars in the U.S. as well but what I don't wish for is the almost $8.50 per gallon price of gas that I saw last year in London. Maybe you want a 900cc Ford Fiesta and $8.50 gasoline? Maybe you want one of the fundamentalist crazies in the Republican camp put in office? I'm not a fan of Obama...but some of the right-wingers running now are fucking scary.
@2003SCT Agreed....But no, I don't want anything like those prices here...that is why I want us to keep drilling and producing here, and do what we need to do...like run our Autos on LNG..We are the Saudi of LNG. But those permits have been stopped also. Google 'Destin Dome' to get an idea of the problem. I had a Turbo-Diesel Nissan Frontier when I lived in Trinidad. I tried to get one here when I came back; Nada. I would love a new Hybrid Citroen DS5, Beautiful and Awesome Tech.
@Bravo21 The pipeline you speak of will only employ a few thousand and then only till it's built. The MPG numbers are different in the UK because they use the imperial gallon (bigger) and the formula used is different. Stop watching Fox news and think more for your self in regard to the president. He did not cause the problems we have and the congress won't help fix them.
@yellowbusgu Lol, You have no friggin idea. I have lived and worked in over 30 countries...Including the UK, and have been a Registered Dem from 1975...Just never been dumb enough to be a 'Progressive'. How about you; Still in your Moms basement? Oh, and I cant remember the last time I watched a TV news show at all...much less Fox. But don't let reality stop you from the hate...Roll on. How about you watch less MSNBC and stop drinking the Kool-Ade?
Just as satisfying as any other Focus? can't go wrong with that; a damn good well built car, why? had one for 12 years now, best handling most reliable car I have ever owned!
Each of their own i guess, we all have different opinion on ever car.
I may have to admit im not keen on alfa's latest front end styling but unlike any other hatchback today, this alfa has a heart, without it it would be mere machine.
@Adelante077 Yeah, youre 100% right, and I guess I shouldn't be so critical when they dont even sell Alfas in the US. Maybe they should sell them here I like European cars.
They will sell it in the US as soon they get more cars up and running such as 159/166 replacement, suv and sports cars. They say the 1st alfa will be sold in the US during 2012/2013
@sangolt88 I agree with you, my brother bought one second hand and after about 2 or 3 days the gear box went. Summary = Alfa romeo - Beautiful but very unreliable.
@GlockNinja You don't test for reliability on a new car they just received for 24 hours. That's not logical. Check consumer reports or look for a long term test car.
@MrWizardSleeve You can predict the reliability of the new car by looking at the similarities between the new and the older model. What problems did the older model have and what did they do to remedy it in the new model. A true car critic would delve into such topics before even talking about the superficial looks and frills, even in 90 seconds. Its why they are professionals with the big budget shoots. They can start with surveys, recalls, customer satisfactions, and reported defects.
@GlockNinja I can read a brochure. But will it have done all of the studies to tell me that I will be spending my $21K wisely? In most of your tongue and cheek reviews of these cars...they do not. Its why for many many years big car companies get away with suckering people to buy unreliable cars at a premium price while they prejudice sensible and reliable cars made by reputable and responsible car manufacturers. Slap leather and wood and its instantly a better car..NOT!!!
@leparkourtutorials Look at the BMW 535D with 300hp, how can you say that's not sporty? Now they're coming out with the M550d which will be even faster.
Not while the Alfa Giulietta exists in this world... faster, lighter, cheaper, more economical, wayyy better looking, Italian, better driving, and, it has soul... sounds better too.
@TheVtieg6 Diesel never will be sporty. There have been attempts, but they never compared to the petrol versions. A sports car is about excitement and response, things an oil burner can only hope to promise.
@TheVtieg6 Better than petrol? Rubbish. It's faster than the petrol version? NO! So it's rubbish. It's a sports car,it's pointless to have a diesel powered sports car, that sounds like a tractor.

He did not cause the problems we have and the congress won't help fix them.
yellowbusguy 1 month ago
@yellowbusgu Lol, You have no friggin idea. I have lived and worked in over 30 countries...Including the UK, and have been a Registered Dem from 1975...Just never been dumb enough to be a 'Progressive'. How about you; Still in your Moms basement? Oh, and I cant remember the last time I watched a TV news show at all...much less Fox. But don't let reality stop you from the hate...Roll on. How about you watch less MSNBC and stop drinking the Kool-Ade?

@Adelante077 Except you won't get to drive it as much because it will be in the shop.

@Adelante077 I disagree. Alfa Romeos are quite ugly.

@Tunerdude94
Each of their own i guess, we all have different opinion on ever car.
I may have to admit im not keen on alfa's latest front end styling but unlike any other hatchback today, this alfa has a heart, without it it would be mere machine.
Adelante077 1 month ago
@Adelante077 Yeah, youre 100% right, and I guess I shouldn't be so critical when they dont even sell Alfas in the US. Maybe they should sell them here I like European cars.
Tunerdude94 1 month ago
@Tunerdude94
They will sell it in the US as soon they get more cars up and running such as 159/166 replacement, suv and sports cars. They say the 1st alfa will be sold in the US during 2012/2013
Adelante077 1 month ago
@Tunerdude94 Not every model is attractive, but I fancy the 159. It looks menacing! I dig that in a car.

@sangolt88 I agree with you, my brother bought one second hand and after about 2 or 3 days the gear box went. Summary = Alfa romeo - Beautiful but very unreliable.

is it reliable? For $21K I can make a Go Kart do better than that car (Atom). Is the bloody thing reliable? That is the only thing that matters.

@GlockNinja You don't test for reliability on a new car they just received for 24 hours. That's not logical. Check consumer reports or look for a long term test car.
MrWizardSleeve 1 month ago
@MrWizardSleeve You can predict the reliability of the new car by looking at the similarities between the new and the older model. What problems did the older model have and what did they do to remedy it in the new model. A true car critic would delve into such topics before even talking about the superficial looks and frills, even in 90 seconds. Its why they are professionals with the big budget shoots. They can start with surveys, recalls, customer satisfactions, and reported defects.
GlockNinja 1 month ago
@GlockNinja I can read a brochure. But will it have done all of the studies to tell me that I will be spending my $21K wisely? In most of your tongue and cheek reviews of these cars...they do not. Its why for many many years big car companies get away with suckering people to buy unreliable cars at a premium price while they prejudice sensible and reliable cars made by reputable and responsible car manufacturers. Slap leather and wood and its instantly a better car..NOT!!!

yes
diesel will never be sporty look at the volswagen sirocco.
leparkourtutorials 1 month ago
@leparkourtutorials Look at the BMW 535D with 300hp, how can you say that's not sporty? Now they're coming out with the M550d which will be even faster.
besttyler 1 month ago
Not while the Alfa Giulietta exists in this world... faster, lighter, cheaper, more economical, wayyy better looking, Italian, better driving, and, it has soul... sounds better too.
AttaboyIII 1 month ago
@TheVtieg6 Diesel never will be sporty. There have been attempts, but they never compared to the petrol versions. A sports car is about excitement and response, things an oil burner can only hope to promise.
JustDriveThere 1 month ago
pretty good levels of equipment? lol manual airco, that's one of the basic options ...
stefken123 1 month ago
@TheVtieg6 Better than petrol? Rubbish. It's faster than the petrol version? NO! So it's rubbish. It's a sports car,it's pointless to have a diesel powered sports car, that sounds like a tractor.

@JustDriveThere
Why not diesel? Theres plenty of good diesels for over a decade and late they have been getting better than petrol

Now this is a reasonable car for a 90 seconds review.
