  • Is this british or indian because the passenger cars look indian

  • @dijonvenableiscool Australia, New South Wales

  • wow!

  • love the video really good

  • super race at lovely location ......

  • I've stood on the Bridge going across the Rails at Mittagong Train Station while the 3801 went under me. I've also stood next to the 3801 at Marulen Train Station.

  • wat a pollution?...:P

  • 3801 the Newcastle flyer and 3830 it is good to see them again i live n.s.w for 18 years but never seen 3801 or 3830 sadly i now live in the back wood country called QLD lol

  • вот умеют же люди развлекаться..

  • Cool trains and locos. Nice race. Thumbs up! :)

  • go gordon

  • Which train won?

  • for some reason I find it very spooky and eerie when they are blowing the horns simultaneously as they approach from around the corner... just seems spooky for some reason... though I have also had dreams of being on tracks in a railyard that seems to have infinite parallel tracks, with trains speeding toward me from the distance and no apparent escape in sight... I guess I musta had a shitty experience with trains in a past life or somethin.... lol

  • If only we could do this stuff in England.

  • lol those folks on the bridge got smoked

  • What is the price competition ?

  • WOOOO! going to the one this sunday SO EXCITED!

  • lets see 4449 844 3751 and 3985 do that

  • Pinky, get off the line!

  • sad to see all 4 38s left are out of serice! will be good when they get 3801 back on the tracks.

wonder what will happen with 3813 in the future??

  • Not sure what you mean - are you referring to the train or the open space?

  • what the hell is that on the left?

  • @HitchinTrains The green engine? It is 3801, a C38 class loco built at Clyde Engineering in Australia. It pulled a regular express service between Sydney and Melbourne and Sydney and Newcastle , a trip of about 500 miles and 100 miles respectively. The services were called the Melbourne Limited and Newcastle Flyer (end 1967). The engine has 4-6-2 configuration and weighs 201 tons with tender. The tractive effort was about 36,000 lb. There were 30 C38 locos built , 5 had streamlining like 3801.

  • @droceretik That would be Sydney-Albury, where the Victorian Railways Spirit of Progress took over to Melbourne because of the break of gauge. (4ft 8.5 in - 5ft 3 in.) Only once diesels had taken over express trains on both railways did the 38 class ever travel Sydney-Melbourne for special events.

  • @OpAus Yeh, that's right. I never did that trip but my dad did

  • shame us brit's cant have this sort of fun with out steamers... bloody health and saftey...... and chavs....

  • SP4449 or N&W J611 would HAVE either of those. J611 was made to pull 10+ heavyweight cars at 100+ mph for long periods of time.

  • You Aussies sure have fun with your steam charters!!

  • green is steamliner steam train

  • Nice video!!! Did you see 3801 do a tank slapper at the platform?? 3801, the best engine in the world, with out a doubt, she has elegance, she has character, she has class... She has earned it... 60163 or Tornado, sure looks great, but she hasnt built her own character yet. Big Boy is BIG, but lacks elegance and style... sort of a bullfrog on sterroids!! In my opinion, the 38 class locomotive have something about them, and lets hope these two locos will make future train buffs jump at stations!!

  • what awesome whistles they have

  • One word!

    Fan-Bloody-Tastic!

  • Never mind 844, 60163 would have all of em

  • high ball!!!!!!

  • U.P. 4-8-4 844 would leave those in the dust

  • @TheMythfox but not on that 1600 mm gauge track

  • @TheMythfox or the Mallard.

  • @TheMythfox I was litteraly going to comment that! U.P.'s 80 inch drivers give it a theoretical speed of 120 mph on the flats of straight hill. Also maybe a 'j' 4-8-4, thet once reached 115 mph!

  • @skybluedragonator Also 4449 is balanced for 120mph

  • @TheMythfox Nah, not for the first few miles.....

  • thats the coolest thing Ive seen

  • nice

  • Great vid ,,! ive seen this footage before but not from the same angle ! its on a DVD i bought in England ,, great footage m8 ! top stuff 5 stars and defo a fav ,,cheers Sean

  • Can I just say that the 3801 is one of the sexiest steam trains ever built.. seriously.. its nose cone and the little windscreen looking thing near the front make it look so awesome!

Only other steam train I have real respect for is the Pacific Union 'big boy' which had the whole two sets of driving wheels going which just looked colossal.

    Thanks for this video :)

  • the races are rigged, the driver of each train radios 1 and tells gim to slow down or speed up. i hope when 3801 is back we see her and 3830 taking it down over 100 kmh. thats what 38's are MEANT to do NSWRTM and PHM.

  • Great stuff !

  • OMG I've never seen anything like this. This is way better than a drag race with cars!

  • cool!

  • Brilliant clip, thanks!

  • Wov- Two beauties- I wish I´d been there

  • yeah, me too, I've never seen anything quite like that.

  • Great video, 5 StarS!

  • beautiful whistles on 38 class locos

  • amen to that

  • 3801 rules its a heriting and it will stay on austalian railways!

  • Super!

  • Let's see two diesel anything make a kid jump for joy on the platform!

  • lol let's see an electric train make a kid jump for joy!

  • amen

  • i saw a steam train when i was five for the first time and have been hooked ever since. i appritiate an old desil train but the modern ones do nothing for me

  • If i ever get to see a ICE3.

  • Even So. I Still Think The 3801 Is One Of The Nicest Looking Trains In Existance. :P Its Like The FlyingScotsman. Beauty!

  • dude...do they actually race? It looks like it...its pretty wicked looking.

  • Yes, they do 'race'!

  • @318Captain it is a two way radio thing, driver tells other driver to accelerate or slow down, the little kids dont get told ;)

  • @3801Catcher ahhh ok

  • do u guys no if they both go to same place or does one train go to one place and other go to a nother place

  • They both go to Maitland.

  • hot

  • good vid but shame bout the bloody chopper in the background

  • That was a Bi-Plane that the two 38's race with

  • are def knobhead?

its a chopper and yes there was a biplane there as well

  • Elegant posture really belongs to steam engines, great clip.

  • That was awesome! Where they both really laying it on and going top speed? Great video.

  • Were where they when they finished the Race?

  • Maitland

  • hehehe, i saw myself, leaning out of the window.

  • u was in a train lik this?!

  • I hope 3801 crossed the finish line first; I had a lot of money on that engine (not really - just kidding)! Spectacular stuff there!
